Lol, I put the decimal point in the wrong placeHOLY SHIT! I can only imagine what that would be like.
Your tolerance must be high.

Hi all, okay, I think I might be taking this compressed cob thing a little too far??
I pack a 1" (2.5cm) ID PVC pipe full of an ounce of cleaned buds - no stems, then put a plug in one end, and ram another 1" wood dowel down inside to compress the cob. I use a bar clamp to squeeze the living daylights out of the cob and after some recent refinements I can get on ounce into a 1" x 2.5" cob (2.5 cm. x 6.3cm.). Dang it takes some force, but it works.
The cob is rock hard, and I mean solid! Have I gone too far with this? Will I ever be able to get into it when it's time - might need a belt sander?
I thought I'd ask those with far more experience than I have about this, thanks for your input, in advance!
I also kind of like the more primitive "turd" shaped expressions of my earlier efforts, they are a little more unique and have their own personality?
Thoughts! Cheers!
for mr some sections of cob are tough, takes a few drinks of water for me to get them wet enough to ,chew!I compress my cobs very hard also, but not quite that hard. Personally I don't see it being a problem, unless you are intending to smoke it. Being rock hard is not an issue if you're intending to eat it.
the limb i lost in the hail storm ,i opened today, still moist been in vac seal for over three months ,i will dry it some more then reseal for another couple months then we will see if i get the sweet smells like the first cob being the largest cob i have ,by then it should be ready for me to use some of it for brownies! No experience with densely packed cobs or super compressed buds your breaking new ground.
I personally prefer lighter pressure but who can say whats going to happen.
most of us are trying to get this right, for me it is all personal.( i'am still learning all eyes and ears!I usually find that with many things I explore I often end up taking them too far in order to discover where the sweet spot is. I think I've done that again! I think I'll make another with the same material - and ease up a bit on the pressure, and see how the two evolve over time. Nothing like another experiment eh? I'll report back at some point on the differences if I notice any, cheers and thanks for the feedback!
i chew a fairly large chunk myself!Lol, I put the decimal point in the wrong place
Excellent information, thanks @ProfessorLefty very much!Pretty close to what I’m getting in terms of density (about 1.25g/ cm^3)
With moderate manual compression and vacuum sealing, 30g pucks I made last time are about 2” dia x 7/8” (5 cm dia x 2.25 cm)
That’s without making any special effort, most of the compression happens in the vacuum sealer
I agree with all the above - I like to push the envelope as well - I also find my cobs (so far) are pretty hard. Which is no problem, I use an exacto knife to cut into pieces. The majority were made just pressing as hard as my weight would furnish. I haven't tried the less compressed ones yet so have not been able to make a real comparison. I am anxious to try the sugared ones. When you are as old as I am I guess I shouldn't be wanting time to by any faster!!I usually find that with many things I explore I often end up taking them too far in order to discover where the sweet spot is. Thanks CDNINCA!Excellent information, thanks @ProfessorLefty very much!
Love your grow setup too by the way, looks like you have some nice camera gear there to support your efforts Cheers!
Cob pics please.
She's a BEAUTY!! Nice colors/colours..., and I can only imagine her aroma! Following my recent posts on shaping my cobs, I truly appreciate her "aero" form too! Cheers!Took the mango Thai stick for a dry yesterday. Look at her

Hey man, chill a bit. Okay so Funkyhorse got on a bit of a rant, we all do sometimes because we're human. I think he is right about the new cannabis though. I noticed it first in the '80s after living in Southern Africa (Lesotho) and returning to Canada. I had my first Sativa Indica cross from a hydro set up in Seattle in 1984. The weed (I think was original Northern Lights) was strong but it didn't have the same charater I was used to. The indica really put a damper on the clarity and it just didn't feel right to me; it was a bit lethargic and muddy. Little did I know then this was the future of commercial cannabis. Anway since that time I've been on a quest for sativas from the old days, those are the ones I identify with and enjoy the most. It's funny how some thirty-something bud barristas consider me so out of touch and ignorant when I talk to them about strains. Yes I don't know about the latest Cookie Dream Diesel OG Kush Blue Cheese cross, and frankly I don't care one bit, I wouldn't enjoy them anyway. Incredibily most young people have never had a pure sativa in their lives, they've had "sativa dominant". Not the same. One young woman told me at the BC Government bud store there are no pure sativas anymore, absolute bullshit. But she was likely right about that commercialy. So sad. What an embarrassing post mate, as most of your posts on this forum are. Please let us know how good your farts smell too. Your last sentence really encompasses the kind of person you are. You call people "canna Nazis" in the same post where you are wanking off about how superior you are to everyone else, and lecturing us like you're a college professor. Gtfo clown.
Easy to fool people when talking with such confidence, but anyone who has seen your grow logs should be able to see through your bullshit. You grow some of the most beloved sativas in this forum, with which so many people had amazing results, me included. You do it so badly that you get a seriously distorted image of the strain. But you're so arrogant and superior that you assume it's the strains, and not your lack of skills and care, that produce these abominations you call plants.
You grow these ridiculous sticks with more weight in thrips, PM and spidermites, than the actual weight of the buds. And you wonder why your weed sucks??? You are growing in the most privileged part of the world to have killer results with sativas, you fail like noone else has managed to fail before really, and blame it on the breeders And call people canna Nazis. The lack of self awareness is shocking.
I don't grow American stuff either, and I don't like that kind of weed, but trying to pretend you are an expert at what is good weed, what are good strains, or anything in general, is laughable and ludicrous.
You live in a fantasy world mate, wake up, learn to grow, and learn to treat others with the respect you want for yourself. Payaso
I think that was salts sweated from the cob they should be dried well, from here they dont need moisture. After two months I took out the cob (nevilles/zamal) to find it quite sweaty. Appearently I did not dry it out enough before re-vacuming.
Not as pretty as some other cobs I saw coming by here. Smells sweet and sour.
Under the maize there was some white stuff on the cob (1st photo). Could probably be mold, but did not really look nor smelled like it. With a loop it more looks like crystals.
I took it off with some pure alcohol to let it dry (2nd). Hopefully it will still turn in something descent.
