Perhaps after a hot run through the compost tumbler it wouldn't be as much of an issue?

Run fresh kelp (thoroughly rinsed) through your worm bin for maximum benefit

EDIT: The brown kelps have the compounds (Secondary Metabolites) that are most important, i.e. green & red do not have these (Alginic acid, Mannitol, et al) and the chances that you could grow brown in an aquarium is somewhere between 'nil & none' - buy the dried kelp meal out of Acadian Seaplants, Ltd. in Nova Scotia

Much thanks CC, I figured it would be more of a PITA than it was worth but I'm always trying to cut corners and do things myself. Reasoning for unlikely cultivation of Brown? I believe you just curious.

Good to know the worms are alright with it also.

If there were a local equivalent I would feel better about buying it. Using all that fuel just to bring me some seaweed because it is the best seems selfish on my part. All fresh water here in the great lakes region though...

In other news: I've been asking around about Rove Beetles and I may have a connection, I'll let you all know when I hear back from my bug guy.

Reasoning for unlikely cultivation of Brown?

The brown kelp varieties harvested from the North Pacific and North Atlantic grow up to 200' in a single 7 month season. Some of the 'kelp forests' off the coast of California and those found north of Norway will contain over 1,000 plants.

Just for starters - LOL

I use the fresh kelp as mulch. I have worms in my containers too though, so it is like the best of both worlds.

Ahhh, lol, I figured it was something like that. They do say it needs to be cut back a lot.:biggrin: I would need to fill a football stadium with water to grow those babies

Im planning to add worms to my soil after I re-amend my soil. I'd like to go no-till but need to add some goodies first, Im likely to do cover crops of assorted types as well.

sorry about the lighting, this is with lights on, i meant to get there but fookin stoner i am

the bud is an og, never seen it crystal up like that. statistically i cannot say enzymes, but i got a feeling.

Thank you for jogging my memory! - it was the Micro version of Dutch White Clover that I was thinking of and what you found about it being part of a grass mix is exactly what happened. This seed was pulled from the retail stores and distribution is limited to grass seed mixes.

Tons and tons are shipped to Oregon to be packed with the grass seeds grown in the Willamette Valley. The Micro Clover will sprout and grow first with the 'real grass seed' following up thereby improving the soil and providing early roots to prevent run-off.

Next time you're at a nursery or hardware store look at the label on grass seeds for the homeowner - Stayton, Oregon

So it appears there is a hole in the market for Rove Beetles should they prove to be as useful as Microbe Man claims, (I have faith MM or I wouldn't be bothering.) There could be reasons for this I suppose...or it could just be a matter of ignorance.

Node spacing on that is amazing for an OG...Exactly what I am trying to do with the strain but couldn't do it from just those genes alone. I always thought og really needed a structural improvement...
