I like worms in my no-till continually making new and fresh vermicast directly where they need to be - at the bases of my plants. Maybe the worms can help with your nitrate problems. They seem to make things very simple in my world.

This is what MM was saying about other life forms like protozoa and worms eating the azos and other bacteria, and then the worm shits and releases N, as well as becoming a N source when it dies... or at least that's what i understood.

4 cups Rock Powders (4X Glacial, 1X Bentonite, 1X Oyster Shell, 1X Basalt)
Can someone tell me if I'm right...Does he mean 4 cups of glacial, 1 cup bentonite, 1 cup oyster shell, 1 cup basalt?

Yes but I think the recipe has been updated since 2011 to 1x glacial 1x basalt, 1x gypsum and 1x oyster shell flour. A part can be any size but a cup is a good measurement for this recipe. Mix all the minerals up first then measure four cups of the mix.

Did the whole recipe change, or just that?

Has anyone used decomposed granite as an amendment?

I have a countertop cutting guy who cleans the air filters into buckets for me... (if you go find a similar guy, tell the cat not to do it on days he cuts resin or polymer stones.)
Its basically granite onyx and slate flour usually. I imagine it still takes forever to decompose. Did you have a specific question?

- and I still love bentonite... cant beat that CEC... but there really isnt one recipe for things... you should always try to source quality inputs that are local to you.

My local stoneyard said that the only rock dust they have is decomposed granite, so I was wondering if anyone had used it before. I think I'm just going to buy glacial rock dust on ebay since I can't find it anywhere locally.
What's CEC?

"quick question"Anyone out there ever brewed a barley seed tea for longer than 24 hrs ? Timed the watering wrong and may have to stretch it another 12 hours before stopping the tea bubbler.

Do you have a base formula you start with Weird? An amend strategy...or is that just based on what you see?

I like the color of your leaves and the lack of red petioles.

Both

I worked into a base that works in my space and have been top dressing it and giving it teas since.

cut out silica, no sprouts, nothing fancy or extra.

Nothing fancy or extra, I like that.

I see a ton of WANNABES just doing WAY too much. You can see the results in the pictures of their plants.

These people just don't seem to get it - the plant will grow amazingly well with very little input or manipulation from the grower.

The less I do, the better my plants perform. This is my observation from growing weed for almost 20 years.

do you suppose someone with just a couple years experience will take your experience for granted? say, just throw down some seeds on the ground and come back later to monsters?

I hafta agree that the plant will 'do it' on it's own, without all the agonizing over percentages of rockdust per quantized amounts of guano in a mix. but...they do need stuff.

this be where we gather to discuss what works whether or not we contrive our own base and re-amend or discard medium and rely on someone elses concoction. not where we throw down insults over abilities and criticize those with less experience and knowledge.

be the student.

It just frustrates me seeing people over complicate things and then wonder why they didnt get the results they were hoping to get. I've been there.

This shit is not hard.

All the time you're not spending in your garden is leaving you with too much time to be frustrated with other growers. Don't waste your energy.

People have to make their own mistakes in order to really learn, I get it. I just want everyone to nail it first try if they can. AND THEY CAN, but they get in their own ways, which, I guess they have to do in order to really learn, I get it.

I don't have kids yet, but I'm guessing this is a big part of being a parent. Knowing how to do it, doing your best to teach it, and still have to watch your own kid fuck it up.

Let me axe this...what is the point of so called drainage amendments? Mother nature never adds perlite...why would anyone looking to "simplify"?

Isn't that actually what albrecht or ream's ca:mg ratio is about?

Decomposition leads to compaction... compaction leads to anaerobic conditions... there are other aggregates in ole mother nature, burrowing creatures and insects to keep it airy.
I personally hate perlite... but I do use lava rock and rice hulls.

I use either lava rocks or a new perlite made from recycled glass. Been very happy with it. Soil has a lot going on with minerals and various sized soil particles as well.
