LED FAQ) Building and DIY

I am planning to use CXB3590 36V 3000k 90cri version on 1400 mA for good efficiency and low temps in micro grow box - my budget plan is to go with 1 cob and 1 led driver on the beggining but to buy a second one cob/driver later. Will I be fine with that low current? On how low current could I drive CXB3590 36V (in theory)? I'm curious because i heard that some types of leds don't like very low current and I know that most of ppl drive CXB3590 36V on 1750mA or 2100mA so 1400mA is not a typical value fo them. In the future I would buy drivers with a stronger current but right now I'm on the budget  btw: i will use one passive heatsink - 19x50cm

Peace! :tiphat:

dunno who's driving CXB3590 that hard, thats more like vero currents

yeah 1400mA is standard. its a good choice. have fun, and dont forget to post up in the led porn thread when ur done

u helped me a lot :thank you:

I will start showing porn, don't worry... around January  right now I started preparing a box. A link to my thread is below in the description. It's PL but you can write there posts/questions in English too so no problemo ;)

My only proof are my plants;)
But yeah, this debate would be endless so I give more space to various options for the so called optimum flowering spectrum. I went with 3000K(only available at the time, most reds 600nm+) but really anything in the range of 3000-5000K is good.

Cheers guys

BOOOOOOO!

Have not forgotten you guys, and again, thank you so much for all the help. Still planning on going with Dions recommended Vero build. Still sourcing components, and saving a little extra dough to make 2 4x4 fixtures. Itll likely be a few months to complete this project with everything else going on, and in the mean time, I will be running 1kW HPS, which should be awesome for some comparisons between lighting systems, in PAR readings, and yield. SO yea, thanks again guys!

Hello Dion, thanks for the amazing thread.

Long time lurking, first time posting.

I can really use some guidance. Im planning a led setup for 2ftx3ft, 6 sqft, cabinet. I want to max out the efficiency, usable photons vs heat per watt. Im leaning towards running one cob per sqft, around 35 watts each.

I would like to figure out which cobs are best suited for this application. Trying to decide between citizen 1825, or the cxm 22. No longer considering cree for the moment since the 1825s and cxm 22 "seem" more efficient. Considering cobkits for the parts and maybe even his light engines.

What do u guys think? Im open to other cob suggestions as well.
Thanks

if I'm you I'm doing

1x) https://cobkits.com/product/arctic-mx4/
1x) https://cobkits.com/product/meanwell-hlg-185h-48a-driver/

6x) https://cobkits.com/product/citizen-clu048-1818-80cri-choice-of-color-temps/

6x) https://cobkits.com/product/120-mm-passive-pin-fin-heatsink/

option for 6x) https://cobkits.com/product/bjb-holder-for-clu048/

But that is a bunch of money

if u want cheaper then just get 3 cobs and use this heatsink

https://cobkits.com/product/140mm-x-70mm-pin-fin-heatsink-for-cxb3590/

and the same driver
at 75w each those citizens are still pretty good, 3500 or 4000k for the win

@dion: got my hand on a cfl bulb, reptil and something, 26w uva/b. i got no money for the fr god damn ... i think i'll test it with the current grow anyway. cheers.

0.5% right?

so your tent is like 350w now?

so like 45min per day?

400w at full 1.4A
the uvb ammount should be 10% of the total i think (2,6w then?).

that's a good question.
no idea, why do you suggest 45' per day?
somehow i thought 15' per hr.; 4hr total over the 12hr of lights on.

8 citizen 1212's @ 6500K powered by 2 HLG-185-48A. 120mm passive heatsinks, drilled and tapped to accept the bjb holders. misc electrical components sourced from lowes. building 2 of them to fill out a 4x4 veg tent. each array pulls ~300W at the wall and they run cool to the touch. almost no heat. the 4' 8 bulb T5 would have roasted these plants with no airflow.

building a couple 4x8 flowering arrays with 32 3000K luminus cxm22's as soon as my 4x8 table gets chopped.

Purty!!!

Thanks for sharing.

Are you planning on running those cxm 22s at 35 watts or 50 watts per sq ft.?

the cxm22's will be @~50W per sqft saving me about 600W per table and a SHIT TON of heat. i cant wait. i really want to pick up a couple revolution micro DEva 1k's and do a side by side but thats an extra grand. we shall see how this round goes :)

I'm a bit lazy this time of year, checking out to get a Mw ELG-C driver in europe but seems I'm unable to locate a seller in EU. Can anyone help with first hand infos?
Damn, I feel quite bad for asking this:)
