Greenline (which is actually yellow) is what Krusty used, but the larger the drainline the better,and even running the bucket drains out to a single pvc drainline back to rez like nitrous works great...... bucket drain clogs even with screens...........uuuuugh.............SYK..where you at with the miracle cure?Oh, Ive gotta have the password to get that info................DHF...........

haha...that's funny dhf. yeah that solution seems to be working for many people and the only other solution i could think of in mid grow without draining and going bigger on the lines would be to double or triple up on ur drop in buckets....redrill some new buckets add a little lava and drop er back've in...iv e seen this done a time or two and usually works a treat but again this is only for midgrow prolbems and i would say after the crop go bigger on the drain!!

actually....just thought about this and the better solution would be to triple up in drop in buckets but cut the bottom out from the bucket and slip it around ur main drop in bucket thus elevating the main drop in bucket without playin with the roots....this way the roots get a little raise so they're not so close to the drain and they don't get damaged.....makes more sense this way i think..........hmmmmmmmm

ok we have one vote that it's enough air, another that it's very low end of adequate (i think thats what you were getting at somoz?). any other input? also, would shortening or lengthening the amount of hose in the bucket increase or decrease the amount of bubbles? like i said the picture doesnt convey well, but if you look at the bottom picture you can see tiny little water droplets forming on the wall of the bucket where they're flung from the bubbles bursting and then running down the wall of the bucket. the whole bottom of the bucket isn't filled with bubbles but the part that isn't is getting churned up and agitated quite a bit.

yeah clogs are something that concerns me greatly, which is why i had thought about using a 1.5 or even 2" hard pvc drain line coming out of the bucket. perhaps just blowing some high pressure air out the drains every week during res changes in a sort of "ounce of prevention" method?

oy...sorry bruce the pics don't do justice to the action then...from the perspective me eyes were seein it at ....it just looked low in pressure but if your gettin action high up on the sides then alls well....

as far as lengthinin/shorting goes well......the more distance the air has to travel the more pressure is lost due to the length of travel...like a car and gas....drive far run out of gas...drive short and keep refillin....well maybe not quite like that but the idea is the less amount of space the line has to travel the more pressure will be obtained.....so if ya can shortin them a significant amount then you will see increase in pressure....and ur line cleaning idea sounds good too....

a few simple ways people stop roots from traveling deep/clogging...now remember roots follow water/gravity and will travel into pipes and concrete through microfissures and destroy them..sooo its tough///

1. water less...roots get pulled with the water..although krust-eye hated on/off watering..i recommend it...more air...less electricity...less roots shooting rite to the bottom...win win win

2. use a tighter media..lava is SUPER loose..like my x girlfriends...sooooo i add hydroton (50/50 lava/hyton)...some add coco...it will not matter imo if you cause more bulk...minf you this cuts down air..so its a trade off and a fair one..

3.. dutch pots drainage...kfb is an overrated dutch pot aka eurogrower..aka bato bucket system..proven by millions of installs this bucket uses an "inverted candy cane shape" type bulkhead and airbrake...ill try to load pics..remember though...if it DOES clog..its a HUGE HUGE pita cleaning it out...not like a normal bulkhead..

4. put your airSTONE (not soaker) right by the drain..it will cause a draft and push roots away if powerful enough..

5... trim the root system...trimming cause the roots to FAN...sorta like topping the plant..just roots...they get "bushy",.,,so they dont send out long taps..just fanned air roots/..great tech..just need a double bucket...so you can access those roots...

6. use a grate...some use gauze...some use bulk head "strainers"..some say this makes the problem worse..your world..

7. "nftree"....some use large tanks and put buckets in..but make the same mistake..add the "air gap of death"......

8.. chemicals.."spin out"..aka copper hydroxide....only feasible in run-to-waste systems...

9..air root pruning...upper holes/vents in the bucket kill root tips and "root prunes" them..refer to number 5....this stops the common problem of all your roots being in the bottom 10%...like in soil pots...you get that "wreath of roots" near the drainage points..rather tha those roots spread through the media as it should be....

@froth..aka "extreme air"..yea air thats really extreme...wtf does that mean...the problem with soaker..IT CLOGS..where the 5 gazillion psi/amp kompressor comes in..solution...nonclogging ceramic stones and a low psi diaphragm or rocking piston pump NOT REGEN...regen is only good if using upper multi horse pumps...just site the flow charts..a 200w 1/4hp regen will pump same amount of air but at HALF the psi as a 200w rocking piston or diaphragm...so look at flow charts..they matter...

Are you saying NOT to put, say, a 5-gallon bucket inside of a much larger container, like a 20 gallon Vittles Vault, because of the large airspace created? I believe one member mentioned doing something like this? Hmm...been following this thread for awhile, along with other(though few) KBS threads. I haven't done one yet, but have done coli/cage and multiflow grows, so I'm thinking about setting up a KBS system next...

mr barkers TOTE TECH..released at OG..ok..flaw....the air gap in some designs...whenever roots dangle in free air they lack the surface area of the media...media hold water and evaporates cooling the air that diffuses frm the 80*f room (tons of free cooling)...sooo all the rocks add R-value aka insulating power...so pure air sucks as a raw media unless you are pulsing water via "true aeroponics"

in true aero 24/7 feeds create "aero collapse" and were the roots go "dwc" or water roots..they are heavy and cannot resist gravity...

in short two roots..media roots(air roots) and water...now the air gap roots need to be aero'd which is tough..or just submerged to water roots..i submerge my bottom roots or let them free drain..i do this considering why i dont need an air gap...well the upper pot is ALL air roots...we need water roots now...

so flaw...well the tote does not stop clogs..just allows you room to access removal...

all the pics ive seen of airgapped tote=rot...only nitrous has managed an air gap without rot..but he tends to have 1gallon pot displaceing the air and also has higher water than kfb design since no sucken res..key differences...

anyhoo...only one bucklet is needed in kfb..totes cost money....no air gap with one bucket..and you still get two root zones..air and water...& without rot..

so bigger key in on the on/off water cycles...they seem to stop prblems and increase soil oxygen by watering heavier but less often....this maximizes "generative growth" and will encourage more blooms...dutch greenhouse techs baby...kfb=dutch pots...dunt get it twisted..return the tech to where it came from....

so once again my room has flooded. not as bad as the last time but enough water that anywhere you step forms a puddle. once again i get to move everything out and work work work to try and dry it out.

i'm thinking perhaps i should just put this on hold until spring is over. i hate to do it, but once i have plants in there moving everything out will be holy hell. i can't just let the water sit for obvious reasons (mold, damage to walls etc) and there are still at least two months in the rainy season.

sorry if i seem negative. been a bad week and nothing seems to be going right. it's rough to look forward to doing something for years and finally getting it together to have unforseen difficulties shut you down over and over again.
