Honestly mate, this is just something I cobbled together using a soil builder base mix tutorial and then deviated slightly for the differing options available. Overall this is my first 4by4 as I did coco in pots before. I will say that I’ve used mushroom compost plenty of times for my tomatoes which is why I gravitated towards looking for it. I thought that it would provide a fungi rich environment but since I couldn’t find any I just inoculated the soil heavily with Mycorrhiza powder which isn’t noted on the list to compensate for the lack of fungi present.
Would you say mycorrhiza is needed when using mushroom compost?

Not necessarily, however, I noticed great bacterial development when using in my water. Although it only created a white disk on top it seems beneficial so I figured if I mixed it throughout the medium it might spiderweb through. I’m working with basic instinct from growing up on a farm, with some internet “wisdom,” mixed in so take it with a grain of salt. I’m not sure if I’m the best person to emulate haha 😂

Your logic seems sound to me.
I don't try to emulate anyone it's all food for thought honestly.
Looking for all the info I can especially when it comes to soil\grow medium.

The ladies are starting to bush out pretty nicely now that the co2, temps and humidity are locked in. At the moment I’m just letting them veg to create a grid and get them back up to health before the flip.

Note to self: upon further examination with everything dialed in they are growing quite fast and so I’ve trimmed the tips and flipped on November 19th. Should be about 10 weeks for the communion and up to 14 for the Jarilloxdestoryer. Managing this forest is going to be rough but I think I might take out all of the cages and put up a net to bend them under

The little guys are doing pretty well with one continually stretching and putting on a lot of clusters while the other has yet to put forth many balls.

Well gosh guys, I wouldn’t normally update this quickly but I finally had the opportunity to do a deep inspection of some of back plants and found out that I missexed one of them. Luckily he was no where near viable and is now long gone. Bit of a rookie mistake but hey it happens haha. I’m sure with the massive stretch the others will fill the tent up again.

Alright. Normal update day, did some trimming to the two monsters in the back to thin the internal canopy. I noticed some white bugs crawling around the soil but I suspect they were soil mites as I didn’t see any leaf damage. Not to mention the humidity, air speeds, and temps plus co2 are apparently not conducive to reg mites anyways. I also bombed the room before switching to flowerer. Nevertheless I sprayed a little water and neem on the soil. Starting to get some smells from the communion, pretty funky, and skunky. That is, until I sprayed the neem lol. Overall I’m not super worried about it.

On another note, I have much praise for this raised bed with living soil. No mixing chemicals and I’m only watering once a week currently.
As we head into the start of week three I’m going to start adding some unsulphured molasses to my ph-ed water but beyond that I think I’m just going to let them grow natural unless I see some deficiency’s pop up.

Secondarily I will be pollinating my two communions and one of the mothers with the Destroyer x Jarillo pollen collected. I’m planned in pursuing growing out seed from the mix if everything turns out as expected. I have some fun back cross ideas that might be worth exploring if anyone’s interested in hearing about it.

Oh and when I do water I thought this was clever for reaching back into the back of my space in the cheap. Just a little 20$ Vivosun pump and piece of hose and watering takes 1 min or so.

Overall though, flowering is in full swing for these gals and the race is starting to get fun.

I'm interested in hearing about your backcross ideas and any other chucking adventures.
Have you grown out anything else Colorado Sativas?

Hey mate, this current run will have some communion x destroyer seeds in the plenty but what I ultimately do with it will depend on the smoke. At the time I wrote that I was thinking about taking 30 of the F1s and searching for a male stud to back cross to another communion mother to stabilize traits. However, I wouldnt necessarily want to dilute the other lineage either so it’s likely better to do it the hard way and take it to f7. But like I said this will depend on how the mothers smoke out.

Could be cool but I only have space for one dedicated project, and recently I decided to opt for popping some queen mother and Bx1 Romulan for my next grow to produce another line. Then I can take the summer off to evaluate and go back to my herb, produce, and fruit gardens.

I’m done some extensive research on CS grows since I started this diary, and while many have their issues with the guys pictures, and or snaking genetics, they do seem to breed true to the parents. This of course is second hand knowledge but thus far my destroyer x Jarillo cross is acting exactly like I thought it would and I poured through tons of cannabiogen diary’s to take a look at the lineage, for what’s it’s worth.

I still have another two months plus to go though, and I’ve been wrong before. It’s best not to assume this early on, however, I am hopeful.

Start of week four. Everythings running smoothly, although I suppose I can report that I knocked the light schedule down to 11/13 because I thought it might help end the stretch a little sooner but other then that nothing news

Explain your thoughts with taking it to f7 please.
I'm a noob so looking for any info I can get.
Does taking it so many generations help one become familiar with what will come out pheno wise? Does it lock in traits? Is it when the plant has reached the ibl\true breeding point? Why do you personally do it is the actual question.

Did you get the queen mother from CS?
It sounds like you've grown it before, do you have a smoke report?

I was asking about CS because I haven't seen much info on grows from their seeds so wanted to find out more as I have a few from them.

What kinds of fruits, herbs and produce do you grow?

This is my first grow from CS but I do have their queen mother. So if the genetics he’s boasting are true they are quite rare. Honestly part of me is taking a gamble that these are the true cultivars from the original breeder, if not removed by a couple of generations. As I said previously I think the guy takes bad pictures but likely bought the seeds he’s talking about and selfed them.

I’m no expert or anything so please understand there are far more knowledgeable people on here who will read what I write and laugh at my explanations, and or reasonings. But hey, I’m ok that.

By f7 I’m referring to the basic Mendelian principles involved with generational breeding for solidification of unique traits, and then taking it to the seventh generation which would lock them in permanently to create a consistent cultivar. Within this seventh gneneration I would pop a ton of seeds and find some prime females to self and make fem seeds to distribute if it was worth its salt.

Breeding in this manner is simply how I learned growing up on the farm as the principle is obviously widely used throughout agriculture. However, I have also become disgusted with the cookie, runtz craze that’s dominated this scene for the last twenty years with its f1 or clone only strains. For one these hybrids get old and two I personally don’t think these are stable breeding practices. Which is why all of those strains are eventually lost. As well, those home breeders popping f1 or f2 unstable crosses are simply going to be continually disappointed. By creating a stable consistent product you could help the amateur home grower a lot, as well as introduce more variety into the market.

As far as my home garden I I’ve been growing a wide variety of basils for years to make pesto for the freezer as I like to eat it year round, along with freshly made sun dried, canned, frozen tomatoes, and many others. Honestly, I can’t think of anything I haven’t grown and every year is different but all of the common veggies for sure. I just picked up a really groovy black sticky corn from Japan that I’m going to try. Pretty excited for that one! I guess the locals love to roast it as a sweet snack or dry it out to make mochi dough flour. Too many things to list honestly 😴.

Good golly, I’m pretty keyed, and sleepy, I hope that came out coherent.

Minor note: dropped temps from low 80s to 70-72, and humidity from 65-70 to 55. Trying to figure out when to cut Co2 being that these are longer flowering 10-12 weeks. I will start weekly decreases starting in weeks 7-8 by 200-300 units at a time.

Start of week five of ten/twelve in total. The destroyer mixes look almost identical to one another in structure. It’s impossible to get pics back there but I can poke my head in to see pretty well. Overall bud structures are looking like they will transform into thick, glorious spears of frosty electric goodness.
The communion plants are frosty and have been since early on. The one to the front, left has a beautiful structure making me bummed that I didn’t pollinate it. I instead choose to pollinate the one to the right, who is overly lanky in comparison to her sister. I pollinated the branch furthest away from the fan so as no cross anything. I also wetted the buds after pollinating anyways but im overly paranoid which may have been my downfall in this instance. The lankyiness may be attributed to her position to the light as well as the fact she’s been encumbered by the exhaust hose, as well there’s some Durban in her lineage, so it may be that. So, all in all, the progeny may be worth looking at depending on smoke.

Oh and don’t mind the yellow tips I moved the light up, and dimmed to 75%. Running out of head room though. Would love to vault the ceiling in there but I think my wife would kill me haha.

Anyways, I have to leave the girls on auto while I go away for a few days for Christmas. No matter what you believe, and or have going on I wish you well in this season friends.

Colorado Sativa's definitely has some things of interest assuming the genetics are what they are said to be. I was hoping queen mother was a freebie that was tossed to me for my order but only ordering 2 packs I wasn't comfortable asking if I was able to pick them. When\if I'm able to buy more seeds they are on my top three from that supplier.

I've heard of the Mendelian principles but idk any details so thanks for letting me know F7 is likely where traits are locked in.
I'd say being as they are widely used through out ag they have at least some validity.
Would you say F7 can\could be referred to as ibl (in bred line) also?

The only cookie I've tried is gsc and I haven't tried any of the runts, zkittle, gelato, cake, am I missing any?
I try to stay away from anything super hyped these days.

I'm interested in F2 as to my understanding this is where recessive traits are found but I also know I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what I'm looking at\for...

Shit! there's more than one or two basils?
I know the one that can be bought in stores(I assume it's the same) and Thai or holy basil but I thought that was just mainstream basil that stayed on the plant longer.

I've tried my hand at serrano peppers (I'd like to try again), cucumber and tomatoes. I had the best outcome with tomatoes.

That black sticky corn from Japan is intriguing. How does one get those seeds?

I suppose I shouldn’t have said F7 is definitively locked in, as by F3-F4 they are quite uniform as far as my understanding of the subject goes. Though, yes, I would say that by F7 they would be considered a hybrid IBL, I think. Im till learning as well but am hoping to one day create a strain from some of these pollen chuck adventures. I grew up in a farming community working with breeders in non-cannabis related fields, and picked up some basics of breeding corn, and a few other varieties. Thus, I figure I can translate allot of what I learned to my hobby projects. Who knows, maybe something fun will pop up.

I’m super excited about this snow high strain I’m getting called winter green, that I’m running with some Romulan BX1 next round and crossing. I think it might be the winner as far as future projects goes.

It’s not like the cookies dosent have its place, I remember some clone only animal crackers from ten years ago that I still dream of sometimes. There’s a reason why it’s popular but most of the modern stuff is pretty much the same as ten years ago, in my humble opinion. To me it seems like they took the same three or four strains and have simply crossed them to oblivion, while changing the name each time. There’s just a lot better highs to pursue but that’s me, everyone is different.

As far as Colorado Sativas goes, the more and more I watch these destroyer gals grow up the more hopeful I am they are legit. The least I would do is go back through and buy everything from a Snowhigh cross. His shit is wildly expensive but apparently is pretty rare fire. That Nanou looks pretty interesting as well.

Oh hell yea brother; there’s like a billion Thai varieties, Italian varieties (Emily is one of the best for pesto), Egyptian large leaf, and the list goes on. Baker creek seeds in Missouri is the only company I buy from for veggie/herb seed stock. This bloke Gerry Gettle travels the world seeking out landrace varieties of differing vegetables, wheats/grains, herbs, flowers, you name it. All non-gmo, organic stock. One of my favourite tomatoes there is a dr whyches yellow, as it has a very tropical, sweet candy taste.
