Jarilla Sinaloa x Destroyer F2 Colorado Sativas

Quick update; noticed some fungus gnats and a little bit of damage. It would seem that the communion is far more sensitive than the destroyer in this regard. However it is currently limited to minor leaf damage in the lower canopy.

I put out some stickies, laid out some maple saw dust and will be getting a mix of diatomaceous earth and worm castings for a top cover which should kill any larva. I’m already seeing a massive decrease in noticeable gnats. I guess you could say that’s part of the living soil experience.

Edit: Finished dumping a five pound bag and some worm castings on my 4x4. As I walked into the room I could swear I smelled sweet tarts and stuck my nose in the communion and was awestruck at the candy smell emanating from it.

No bugs in site. The room is starting to reek like sweet tarts, smells great. I would sit in there and just smell it if it weren’t for the co2.

I also got my new seeds today, so shout out to seeds here now for quick services, and helpful staff. These were alittle pricey at 70$ for five seeds but I will be open pollinating then to produce enough seed to pheno hunt for a lifetime, or give away to some folks in my friend group idk.

Start of week seven gents and the battle wages on against the fungus gnats. I’ve employed sticky traps, Diatomaceous earth and most recently nematodes(which might take a min). Now I only see one at a time mostly. The other issue was inconsistent watering as I’ve been in and out of town but I’ve normalized it now and the leaves are starting to recover from their clawing.

Growth has been great, though I can distinctly say there are two unique phenos for the destroyer mix when I previously suggest that they were twins. One is extreme lime green with razer thin leaves and then the next is darker in colour with leaf size not being as extremely thin, though still markedly Sativa. Both have similar cola growth and are spitting out leaves every which way. The two destroyers show no signs of finishing anytime soon so I’m thinking it might go 14 plus. Not much smell yet but there is a lemon, lime smell with alittle cedar or musk.

The two communion plants are going to be light weights it would seem and have displayed some finicky tendencies. Though I will say she has an intoxicating smell of sweet tarts and deep berry flavours. The cross might bulk them up in subsequent generations though if I decide to pursue it.

I suppose I shouldn’t have said F7 is definitively locked in, as by F3-F4 they are quite uniform as far as my understanding of the subject goes. Though, yes, I would say that by F7 they would be considered a hybrid IBL, I think. Im till learning as well but am hoping to one day create a strain from some of these pollen chuck adventures. I grew up in a farming community working with breeders in non-cannabis related fields, and picked up some basics of breeding corn, and a few other varieties. Thus, I figure I can translate allot of what I learned to my hobby projects. Who knows, maybe something fun will pop up.

I’m super excited about this snow high strain I’m getting called winter green, that I’m running with some Romulan BX1 next round and crossing. I think it might be the winner as far as future projects goes.

It’s not like the cookies dosent have its place, I remember some clone only animal crackers from ten years ago that I still dream of sometimes. There’s a reason why it’s popular but most of the modern stuff is pretty much the same as ten years ago, in my humble opinion. To me it seems like they took the same three or four strains and have simply crossed them to oblivion, while changing the name each time. There’s just a lot better highs to pursue but that’s me, everyone is different.

As far as Colorado Sativas goes, the more and more I watch these destroyer gals grow up the more hopeful I am they are legit. The least I would do is go back through and buy everything from a Snowhigh cross. His shit is wildly expensive but apparently is pretty rare fire. That Nanou looks pretty interesting as well.

Oh hell yea brother; there’s like a billion Thai varieties, Italian varieties (Emily is one of the best for pesto), Egyptian large leaf, and the list goes on. Baker creek seeds in Missouri is the only company I buy from for veggie/herb seed stock. This bloke Gerry Gettle travels the world seeking out landrace varieties of differing vegetables, wheats/grains, herbs, flowers, you name it. All non-gmo, organic stock. One of my favourite tomatoes there is a dr whyches yellow, as it has a very tropical, sweet candy taste.
Sorry for the delay. I needed time to process the response and with the holidays work etc I just got some time to respond.

I feel having this as a hobby vs job is much more healthy than needing it to pay the bills.

Your statement on mendelian principals here made me wonder if something along the lines of taking a seed pack of 5 - 10. Popping the pack doing an open pollination assuming theres a mix of males and females, labeling this as season 1 or the like, growing another 5 or 10 from that labeling season 2 and so on until one reaches whatever... generation? they choose and then mix these either based on a criteria, what they saw in various seasons thinking theyd mix well or just randomly. Do you think thatd keep the genes in the original pack as healthy and open as possible?

I've been wondering how one stays up to date on snows releases. Bodhi's too honestly.
Talk to me more about this wintergreen strain. Is the romulan bx from Ace?

I don't have much experience with any of the hyped strains. I've tried girl scout cookies, it was enjoyable but a bit heavy towards the end. I'm in full agreement that there are better highs to pursue.

I haven't decided what next seasons grow will be but I'm thinking Nanan-Bouclou and Ethiopia. I think they'd cross well and Ethiopia deserves a better run than I gave it this past season. The weather was wack and the soil mix had some issues. I blame the soil mostly as the weather was weird but not weird enough to totally throw the grow off, imo anyways.

I have destroyer, Nanan-Bouclou, panama and bangi from Colorado Sativas. The last two were the freebies. I'm interested in both but will probs grow out nanan and destroyer first. I have a few more I'd like to grab from them but idk when it'll be feasible. Def interested in watching your grow progress as destroyer is part of genes you're working with.

Is this the site you speak of?
I just googled bakers Creek seeds Missouri and that was the first hit.
They do have the Dr Wyches yellow so maybe...?
I'll have to look into this Emily basil.

No worries mate, and Happy Christmas to you, and yours.

I understand the sentiment, and as I’ve returned to growing I’ve realised that is almost a full time occupation, that is unless you can spend the money to automate things. Which most people including myself can not. I myself sold a lot of stuff to convince my wife to let me start this venture. At this point I am actually considering pursuing a few genetic projects, as well as running open pollinated preservation projects to ultimately offer to the public. But this would be far down the road as I believe it takes time to truly find a gem worthy of sharing. All in all, I got lucky because I’m currently a stay at home dad, who went back to school to get his masters. It’s hellish at times but because I’m at home it’s alittle easier to just poke my head into the room and make slight adjustments.

In regard to open pollination I would venture five seeds, if open pollinated together, would produce a decent mix of phenotypes from the original breeders line. This would be enough to play with but it’s worth noting that you need quality genetics from the start or the endeavor is mute.

Concerning Snow, I have learned through diving through numerous threads that hes pretty far in the weeds with orders and hasn’t been heard from in six plus months. The place where I bought some of his gear is direct from the breeder and when I contacted them they emulated the six month pause in receiving new stuff from him. Bodhi, on the other hand, had a website and while I’ve never ordered from him it seems pretty simple. Here’s the link for an overview of Wintergreen; https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Winter_Green/SnowHigh_Seeds/

Ace is simply a carrier for Romulan Genetics, Romulan BX1. I bought my stuff right from the breeder Jake who sells “picture frames,”.

Do you only grow outside? I understand that, I had hosts of issues back in the day growing outdoors in the Michigan cornfields haha. That destroyer is looking tasty so I would consider it but that Nanou description of, “acid-like trippiness,” was pretty intriguing.

Yes that is the right website! Awesome place to drool at some amazing varieties.

Moved co2 from 1200ish to 750ish and will leave for a week and then drop some more. I’m leaving for a few days the week after next, and am phasing it out for the end.

Also brewing some compost tea for the girls, which just involves 4 gallons of water, a couple of cups of compost and a 1/2 molasses. Put air stone in on high after mixing and let sit for 48 hours and then use immediately after straining.
If the mixture still smells really sweet you can give it alittle longer.

@Abdthi1966 your plants are looking good. CS has some great strains. I’m starting to grow from him again. I’ve got a 600w hps on the way for an empty 4x4. These seeds are going to flower there. On another note... did Fuji rip off Kodak? Cannon copiers rip off xerox? Or in the spirit in competitive capitalism.. sell a better cheaper product? Not sure it really matters.

Oh I agree friend and I don’t think it does but some of the breeders he’s bought from have been irritated by him haha. But like that Nanou, he offers great rare stuff at a good price. I mean it’s such a good price I can’t imagine he’s making any money off it lol.

Interesting I haven’t had the pleasure of that one yet haha.

I think after all this time I’ve realized the gnats were only part of it. I think I’m having some nitrogen toxicity with the claws and leaf symptoms. I’m almost at the start of week 8 so I’m hoping I can just keep watering and get through the last four weeks. It hasn’t seemed to spread too far yet. Another consideration I had was that my co2 ran out suddenly and I couldnt afford to keep replacing a 50 bottle every three weeks. Couldn’t believe how much those suckers were drinking up.

wen to GrowWeedEasy.com ---- plant issue's w/ pictures thought barrnales were only on water way things like ships, boats, docks, ect never on plants - course living on the river hope has nothing to do with it, had some plants outside and moved them inside, that's when the problem started barnacles on plants come on !!!! - there is a little insect in side a barnacle that hatches then terrozzing a plant

Insects coming forth from barnacles and terrorizing plants? That sounds like the start of a bad Stephan King novel from his coke days. That is certainly a new one to me my friend.

Start of week 8.

Well my life’s been a bit stressed of late with some family stuff so I neglected to tackle some of the issues I was having until the last couple of days but have since taken action steps.

Fungus gnats are mostly under control but as we are nearing the end I have other problems to attend to. PH is off and lingering in the 4s throughout the bed and so I flooded the 4x4 with 10 gallons of rainwater which is what I normally use. However I didn’t adjust the PH as it’s normally quite high in the 8.0s and thus my thought is that it will help balance out the medium. I’ll be checking the soil PH daily from now on.

The two communion plants are nice and frosty and starting to get browning pistols. I have a new handheld video microscope coming to check the trichomes but by the naked eye I would say they should be ready for the chop in a week or two.

My two destroyers x Jarillos have a touch of red here and there but otherwise they don’t look anywhere near done, though holding the branches they are quite heavy so they have some nice weight. I’m hoping the nute burn doesn't screw me there but now that I know the problem and can correct the PH I’m hoping to stave it off. I also took the lights down to 10/14 to help them finish before the burn goes too far.

It’s been ten years since I had to navigate these issues so I’m alittle slow on the draw but I feel like I’m starting to get my bearings overall. Let’s see how this nute burn clears up.

PH Update: 10 gallons of 8-9.0 Ph water brought the acid soil up from 4.0 to 5.3-6.0 throughout the bed. I’m hopeful this nute burn will be dead in its tracks but I will be monitoring closely as the bed dries out. Obviously it’s pretty soaked right now, so we will see how it sticks around. I might have to continue with the plain rain water treatment.

Got that little micro camera today. Nifty little thing for 28$.

Here’s some shots of the communion

I finally got to see the first little hints of trichomes deep within the destroyer colas though they likely have a long way to go. The camera is not perfect obviously but for 28$ I think it will suffice
