Is Nevilles Haze still the strongest haze?

Raco, it's literally been 7 years since I ran Tom's Haze, well he didn't go by the name Tom back then;)... At that time I'd just axe the males, sadly I didn't have the knowledge, or better the passion for preservation as I do today; but long story short... I lost all my genetics of Tom's:badday:

But, and a big BUT:D I managed to pass on Tom's Haze to Bacchus:D

And back in the OG days, he had a funny story about burning a spliff of this (after he'd grown them of course) and being in the airport before catching a flight... It was a most apt description of how the buzz, no no let me reword that, the high which Tom's Haze's gives off is.. Super clear, but it can lead to a real heart thumpin ride too! Hopefully he'll drop in here..

This is a good read for everybody (this thread I mean), but folks gotta keep the mudslinging out and keep it clean.. Having debate round here is good, and one of the things I missed most about OG was the vast amount of threads like these (remember the Sat thread, God!!!) which were greatly informative on an otherwise mystical subject, which literally is due to prohibition... Think tomato growers have lost as many genetics as ganja growers?! Nope.....

But we all gotta remember to keeps things objective versus becoming subjective... It's a more positive experience, and your point will carry more resonance... My humble thoughts folks... JAH Bless:rasta:

Thank you, Raco :)

....Joe Pietri...(I wasn't going to pick this one up, but he is being made an issue)-- Guy makes my skin crawl-- Just don't trust him. Where'd he come from and can anybody prove to me that HE'S not a narc? Isn't he like JessE's "deepthroat" source?

Respectfully and agreeably disagree to consider him a "source" :)

wow.
having just read through pages 1-13 i am stunned.
so much drama and so many opinions.
thanks to Gypsy for stepping in and straightening things out.
i just wanted to interject that the blue dream that i have (supposedly blueberry x unknown haze) also bleeds red, sometimes spontaneously like religious stigmata. it is in no way close to "pure" haze (whatever that means) and most people peg it around 60/40 sat/indica. i just wondered what all these gathered authorities thought about a trait like this being passed so far down the line......?
good luck to all on finding their own perfect haze!

Well, Joe Pietri is a strange character, but he does have a lot of knowledge. It's often the case with old timers who were involved in that trade that they aren't the most balanced of individuals and not the easiest to get reliable information from. He makes some valid points in his Dr Frankenbeanstein article but ruins it by going on a tirade about feminised seeds, for instance.

That may be that he's just an odd old timer who dabbles in many things and periodically reinvents himself, but he just seems a bit too contrived for me to trust.

Sorta like Hempy LOLOL (Hempy - j/k - you know I've got mad love for you --or your character ;)-- brother)

what a great thread, thanks to all for the great info. my contribution is limited since i
left the scene after the haze died in '81.
to GN- there never were any haze brothers that was just urban legend. one guy discovered it, after which a friend joined the grow and later had a falling out with the originator.
skunkman lived nearby, like so many of us. i was the satellite grower gifted the seeds each year. and to my knowledge one of the only persons outside of the originator and his short lived partner to actually grow the original haze developed in '69 in santa cruz.
to BH-
the four plants emerged right from the get go, remember there was no serious breeding program, just pollen chucking. It originated from a punto rojo seed and then was breed to itself for the duration of it's existence.
the four plants were
1. OH- purple calyxes green leaves, did not turn purple due to cold. red sap.
rich deep smoke, very very sweet, down to the last hit, many thought it tasted like
smoking juicy fruit with a very rich finish. no incense smell
2.Magenta- often referred to as the root beer plant because that's how it tasted to many.
3.light green almost silver blue- my favorite, we used to call it Bilko weed, cause we would watch lots of sargent bilko and laugh our asses off along with a bit of the honeymooners. this was the closest thing to smoking acid, very very clear and up.
taste was sweet but much spicier than the others, peppery sweet and very expansive.
4. green/brown- this plant had the most incense smell and was probably the most like old school high altitude mexican. i can't remember how the taste was different except that it was old school tasting, not as sweet more musky.
These memories are old as am i, so my apologies if they aren't as descriptive as some.

There are a couple of pics in my photos here on icmag that represent the closest i have gotten to reproducing it.
I also posted some recent pics of a few plants whose origins are from sam via a generous member of the community, who i am grateful too. Those plants turned out much like the last plant of the four. Very old school flavor, green brown color, very incense smelling, really improved with a cure and became very expansive. Effect is uplifting, clear and puts a smile on your face. Which reminds me i need to go put that smile on my face now.
cheers/peace/hh
strictly medical and compliant
currently in my flower room
1. 3 - ojd varieties
2. 8 new varieties from Oakland
3. skunkman oh
4. mekong delta landrace - courtesy of GN
5. neville haze from two different seed companies
and anything else someone's wants to contribute

Interesting, i have never seen a cut of the dream bleed red, you must have an unusual cut. i've grown it a number of times without that characteristic. I have also seen it grown in large commercial medical grows and have never seen that so i'd be saving that one.

the dream is a wonderful plant, it is easy to grow, produces copious amounts of wonderfully spicy buds. very distinctive color
taste and smell. Great plant which as mentioned is a haze cross with blueberry, at least that's the story i've heard. It used to be
a tough strain to find but has become available everywhere in the bay area. Great addition to anyone's garden.
cheers/hh

To be honest, I'm much rather have the original sativa landraces that went into Haze or ones of similar quality rather than Haze itself. It's not easy to find such things these days though.

If I'm not mistaken, that classic shot of blood red sap dripping from a freshly cut OH plant was Farmer John's and appeared in the bgh's Questions for Sam on OH thread...Don't ask me what page LOL.

Does anybody have any first hand experience with the merits of Seedsman's Columbian Red Haze? It's a combination of NH and their Columbian.

And where would such things be found these days? We spoke the other day about Africa and its undiscovered strains....

i can only swear by seedsman g13 haze. the haze pheno, well, its got haze resin, smell, high and taste, on an indica bush. kept that cut, while tossing many more popular name strains.

happyhi,
a punto rojo seed..what does that mean? a punto rojo female that was crossed to a mexican male and then the hybrid was breed to itself for the duration of it´s existence?

Or was it just a colombian x colombian?
I´m a bit confused,sorry :)
Cool post, and unless Sam says otherwise, that´s some great great info
thx

Thanks, whodair. They seem to know their way around a hybrid Sativa.

Raco's got em all LOL....Seriously, as far as I'm concerned, Raco's the man for South American land races which are some of the best and were instrumental in creating haze.

The haze comes from a Punta Roja seed and was bred to itself for about 10 years after which the strain went weak and became useless.

S G,
a Punto Rojo seed is not the same than a Punto Rojo seedline IMO
1 puntorrojo seed can´t originate a seedline unless it´s outcrossed or the original mother was hermie...:)
