I never said it was going to break any track records, but on a budget if you want a fast car nothing beats a lil bit of cash and some domestic know-how.
The numbers people seems to boast are 0-60. 0-100-0. With 80,000(not counting taxes titles and fees) one can build a super performanced minded car. It doesn't take turbos or variable valve timing.
I agree it would add some weight. Aftermarket companies make aluminum blocks that weigh about a hundred pounds. Aluminum heads can be had even easier. Throw a different offset wheels on there with another inch of meat.
More torque would benefit a car on a track with a lot of turns. Having to rely on the engine to spin up to 4k+ to start to gain power is a waste of time. Having power on demand from 2k makes it much easier to pull a lead or come trashing out of a turn. Horsepower is only 1 piece of the puzzle.

yeah but idgaf about 0-60 as I'm more of a canyon carver than stop light to stop light driver.
Variable cam timing is cool though because you an have the gas saving profile for cruising/ around town and the super aggressive profile for aggressive driving.

0-60 is a standard measurment in Auto magazines, so is 0-100-0, and the 1/4 mile.
It is a measurement that a lay person,can get there head around.

You will not be able to build a AWD car, that can post the same lap time as a F430 Scuderia, with a DCT, and V6 for under 80k...
Granted you might be able to throw a bunch of parts in a car, but in NO way will it be as refined as a GT-R.
You want to see badass... Check out this build. This thing does a 1/4 in 9.1 @ 170.

So not only does it cost upwards of 300,000 USD to buy the car, but then you need to do all the hand-made work to it for another 100,000 USD to make it run a pathetic 9.1s 1/4??

This guy did it in a 4,000+ lb station wagon. Best part is you can go buy parts for it at AutoZone or an aftermarket magazine.
whereas with that lambo you've gotta special order parts, wait two weeks, go to the lambo dealership and pay a premium for JUST A NAME.
I know there is cars out there that cost millions of dollars. I get it. If a person wants a hot flashy ride that some company made for them to make the ladys' ginies tickle then yes, he should go ahead and compensate.
But for a person to build a car himself in his own garage that can spank a man with no talent who happened to be born into wealth and bought a $300k car with daddy's money is just sooooo worth it.
Refined and raw power? They don't belong in the same sentence.
