Bsinger, a few things:

Your location says you’re in Toronto-ish area, right? University of Guelph’s agricultural research lab is one of the best in the country, and seeing as they now have a cannabis program for biology students I’m sure the faculty would be more than happy to keep the line going in a scope that may not be possible for you?

Good idea or find some old school sativa heads who are into genetics

2. Those girls look amazing. No seriously, I’m like drooling.

3. Ahem, seasoned grower right here in the GTA with you speaking ;) In all seriousness, if you would like me or better yet, several growers to help you preserve those genetics Im sure we’d only be too happy to.

4: apply for a nursery license from Health Canada and legally sell the seeds for profit

Big bucks for nursery license though correct? I do have 50g a day script and 220 indoor plants grow license. Maybe we need a group?

license doesnt cost its just the time you have to keep a space for waiting to be approved. nurserys have different and less regulations to follow then producing and selling flower.

Nursery license does cost money, not a crazy amount just for license. But to set up the building to fit the regulation does cost a fair amount.

Peace GG

As for only keeping one male vs multiple it would really need to shine. If your intention is preservation I would choose 2-3 males at least and let everyone hang out. This would secure more genetics in the seeds so to speak. I’m below the border from you but would love to help out when the time comes. Love your enthusiasm!

How does the nursery license work? And who can you sell too (i.e., only medical patients?)Just curious as there doesn't seem to be any licensed seed sellers anywhere in Canada right now.

Your only options are 2 seeds from canopy, which are rarely in stock.

The 'grey' market looks very interesting

You could sell into the legal food chain. I had a group looking at getting a processing license. When all said and done, 600k to build and wait for them to inspect. I even took the QAP program with cannabis compliance.

Gotcha. So you could sell to LP's like Canopy/Aphria/Aurora?

It is my understanding yes and the govt does NOT have a seed supply and according to the regs, they can get seeds/clones from anywhere until such time as the fed govt has its own. Selling to the govt makes you no money though.
Selling in the gray market does.

Hi gang, re: the nursery license, you can sell seeds legally. That’s literally it. You can hold flower, but cannot sell it. The pros are pretty obvious, and as was pointed out earlier, legally there is only canopy that is selling “legal seeds” in Canada atm. So there is an obvious need for more competition in the bean game. The barriers to entry are also substantially lower than other production and processing licenses issued by Health Canada, so that’s good, but predictably there are more restrictions as well.

Such as: I think you need to apply for a micro-processing license if your grow area exceeds 500 sq feet AND you intend to sell. So not exactly a ton of room for a rigorous breeding program.

For you OP, if you were to go the route of a nursery license since you have your ACMPR already you can go about growing as you wait to be inspected and approved by Health Canada. Normally you’d be stuck in limbo with an empty grow area thumbing your arse until they show, but again, ACMPR saves the day!

(For the initiated or unCanadian), when I say ACMPR i am referring to a not-for-sale medicinal license that allows you to grow more than the recreational limit of 4 plants per household. Because OP grows medicinally, she can now legally grow over 200 plants.

Back to the nursery license, it is the cheapest of the lot and I’ve heard it typically costs between 20k-50k if you have a proficient lawyer.

Bsinger, it’s not that the LPs (licensed producers) buy their seeds from the Government, the government basically said to them all as the industry was being born that they had a VERY FINITE amount of time to source their genetics from black market sources and then it’s only legal seeds allowed because taxes. Just so happens that the vast majority of these chucklefucks that run these companies don’t know dick about weed more than they read that one time in business insider.

I could go on and on about how monumentally big of a fuck up Canada’s legalization was, but I’ll save that for another post on another day...

Yes, I have 50g a day or 220 indoor/90 outdoor yearly license. I'm just about to go up for renewal and I understand they increase by 20%.
