Killing for food, especially if the animal has had a happy life is cool with me and yes, don't waste it after it's given it's life for you.
I've been a predominately vegetarian for over 40 years now, but do occasionally eat fish, especially if I've caught it.
Many many years ago I was a salmon poacher and supplied local restaurants; but that's a story for another day🙂.
It saddens me greatly to see the intensive farming practices that go on in the "modern" world.

Thankfully most of the meat around these parts is from local animals and the fish comes fresh from the sea in the early morning.
We are blessed to live in such paradise; and to have a best friend who happens to be a mechanical genius. Yesterday, Sunday, and during siesta, my "new"
20 yr old Bmw had an issue with the hydraulic clutch pedal assembly and I was stranded in the car. He came out and did a roadside repair (very ingenious) and this evening I've been up to his house and he's taken apart the pedal assembly, welded the fractured pin, replaced the clutch switch and all for less than one hours normal rate; I do make him the best coffee available in the village, every Wednesday morning though. 🙂

How beautiful are those plants of yours, friend.
only the lemon tree needs some iron hahaha...

I also had my time as a poacher, although I dedicated myself more to sea bass and sea bream, now I have only practiced catch and release for a long time, and I go less every day... although I have good barbel populations close to home and they are very fun.

The hypies sandals or "espadrilles" will camouflage you perfectly among the local peasants almost anywhere in Spain.

How good would be some pollen from that male around here, cousin, if I hadn't returned to my work obligations, we'd still go see you... I can't wait to retire!!

a hug

@el mani , thank you brother for the kind words.

The plants are a little behind where they should be, but I think the intense heat hasn't helped.

I'm hoping that this year I don't have to top them; fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice about the lemon tree.

If everything goes according to the plan then I'm sure a little pollen will somehow find its way to you. Possibly a little O Haze pollen too?.

A big hug

PS !I love fishing for barbel! 🙂

To start things off, here's something that was in the garden.

Destroyer male tops.

I left the plant in the ground up until a few days ago and then chipped off some of the tops. Within 24 hrs the first flower opened. After 48 hrs I snipped off the little flowers and they are now drying in a paper bag.

Yeah, it's been a hot one, but for me this summer has been a breeze; last summer and autumn I was taking sheds loads of antibiotics and couldn't even strand 30c.

This summer I've been able to show my special tackle to all those who care to look, rather than just the doctors and nurses at the health centre😂

My plants have suffered from the intense heat of early July; didn't get them established enough before the temperatures went crazy. 🙂

I have some pictures from this evening but will post them tomorrow. Mrs DM is wanting to watch a documentary.

Good morning to you all.
I hope life is treating you all well.

It's another hot one in Las Alpujarras, but its what we expect at this time of year. At least the night time temperatures were more tolerable; in fact it's perfect for dancing outside at night and that is what we intend this evening, but not until after I've danced on stage whilst my friend band plays a Velvet Underground cover.

So, here they are.

First is the Destroyer of old.

And this morning after having being watered last night.

More to follow later, but it's Saturday morning and that's means coffee up at my friends place, so it'll be later before I get to posting the rest. 🙂☕

Next up is one of two zenith.

She was started a month after the Destroyer and consequently was more effected by the stupid early July temperatures. (Currently 39c today, but another 2 hours or so before the hottest part of the day 😂).

That was yesterday evening before watering.

And here she is this morning

Here's the other Zenith.

She was a runt that I hadn't given away and was used to replace a male plant that I had mistakenly planted.

And this morning after last night's water.

She lost quite a few of her larger fan leaves to grasshoppers early on, which obviously didn't help. Thankfully she still has a long way to go and will (🤞) get quite a bit bigger.

And after

She's stretching, so shouldn't be long now before we see some flowers.

And the killer A5 haze.

Before and after

This plant got the worse of the grasshoppers attacks and really didn't like the intense heat of July; she still doesn't like it now but is improving.

I fed all the plants 5 days ago with a tea consisting of bat guano, worm hummus and molasses that had been brewing with an air stone for 24 hrs.

I have a large collection of dried banana skins that I'll grind up and use as top dressing in the next day or so.
