Its an adventure, eh? I'm not going to be able to replicate the conditions its used to - lets see how it does!
Yeah it's interesting for sure.

Just wondering as I followed the same logic with the Moroccan Beldia in coco and for that it was not the way. Yellowed up quick as the coco dried. Next time I will keep it more consistently moist for sure.

Ah, good to know. The Moroccan is probably not wildly different in its environment preferences to the Syrian... I'm not planning on letting them dry completely, just going to give them a faster draining medium. I've another pack of 12 Syrian that I'm keeping in reserve - treating this as a trial grow!

Ive started enough fems for now - will get the 5 syrian going this weekend. I have a few OG Kush hybrids at the seedling stage that were given me by a friend, and those plus the CBD, the Royal Highness and the Honey Cream means I've got some definite females lined up and anything else is a bonus. Once they are ready to pot on, I'll start the other regs: Rhino D, Medical Mass x White Rhino F1s, and the Dance World (Johaar) Bx. Still no sign of the Dance world fem, the seed was a few years old so maybe its not going to make it, but the DWJ Bx are 75% Dance World and any males will be good pollen parents for the CBD#1 and Royal Highness fems (Dance World is 12% THC with a 1:1 ratio of CBD).

A well draining medium is always a good thing, I think.

Awesome mix of strains! I take it you enjoy a bit of CBD.

I loved the Dance World - inspiring vibe without being too stoney. Excellent daytime smoke. I mean, I love the heavy THC stuff too... (and the Rhino D and the Kush hybrids will provide plenty of stone!) There are also folks I know going through chemo or with chronic pain conditions who appreciate the lower THC/ higher CBD stuff, so some of this grow will be gifted to them.

From the RSC website:

Genetics: Pure Syrian Landrace
Sourcing: Obtained from collectors via gene bank
Purpose: Hashish (sieved resin)
Latitude: 34° N
Regional Harvest: August through September
Height: 0.6 – 1.5 metres
Aroma: Sweet, fruity, floral, ‘hashy’
Characteristics: Early, hardy, Indica and Sativa types, aromatic, semi-autoflowering, CBD
Grow Type: Outdoors, greenhouse, or indoors

This Syrian landrace is a fast-flowering strain sharing characteristics with Lebanese landraces from Bekaa Valley and, to a lesser extent, with Turkish types. Syria has a long tradition of cannabis cultivation, particularly in the mountainous western region bordering Lebanon. These are early maturing plants with intense aromas and resin. Semi-autoflowering traits can be exhibited.

Two main phenotypes can be found in this Syrian landrace, namely Indica-type and Sativa-type. Indica-type plants can be expected to range from 0.6 to 0.9 metres. Sativa-type plants approximate 1.2 to 1.5 metres in height. The Indica-types are more desirable and compact, whereas the Sativa-types appear to typically have ruderal characteristics. As expected for a hashish landrace, chemotypes range from THC- to CBD-dominant. Aromas are intense fruit and tangy candy.

This is a hardy landrace that’s adapted to a desert climate of hot days and cold nights. Plants require light nutrient regimes and benefit from being given a dry period between watering.

This Syrian strain provides a positive, inspiring high with a feeling of mellow, physical relaxation.

Recommended to collectors, particularly because Syria is likely to remain inaccessible for the forseeable future.

NOTE: These seeds were not obtained by The Real Seed Company directly from Syria. However, a reproduction run was made by a breeder, and a small number of packs have been made available after receiving several requests from interested collectors."

Seen a few more mites, but no more damage. Still, I'd like them gone. This is my bad for not doing my usual summer break and properly cleaning the growroom - I've just piled straight in with only a cursory cleanup and started germing seeds in amongst the chillies that are still occupying most of the cupboard. So it goes. Will try to get a pic of the bugs so I can ID them - they are about .5 - .7 of a mm long, narrow like thrips, but smaller, and fairly quick moving. Dark brown. Meanwhile, more DE.

One of the Pineapple Kush is up, nice. Looks strong. Still waiting on the Dance World, the second replacement CDB#1, and the second Royal Highness, but anything else at this point is gravy.

1st Syrian up. That's a good start! :) Was worried these wouldnt germ, or would take ages.

Still nothing from the Dance World, second CBD#1, second Royal Highness, or second Pineapple Kush, but I'm excited for this lineup. I've 3 S.Kush & 2 M.Kush hybrids now, plus the CBD#1, 2 Honey Creams, Royal Highness (all fem), and Pineapple Kush (reg). Once these are established, I'll start topping and training, taking cuttings and building grafted plants to back up until I know which ones I want to run again. Then on to the Dance World Bx, the Rhino-D, the Erdpurt, and that will probably keep me busy till next Summer :ROFLMAO:

Two more Syrians and the 2nd CBD#1 up today. :) One of the Syrians sent its tap root straight up into the air whilst the seed stayed buried.... hmmm.... I carefully excavated around it, and righted it. Lets see if it survives.

Slight stippling of paler patches on the leaves. (Not the white stuff on the rhs, thats DE)

This is gonna get confusing. I'm putting it here I'm not a fan of naming strains with a numeral at the end.

3rd Syrian (the upsidedowner) also has the internal membrane of the seed coat sticking the seed leaves together. Surgery time again.

Ass-in-the-air (Syrian #3) made it. 🤞 There was a small patch of mushy decay around the end of one cotyledon which worried me - looked like a part of the seed had rotted. Also saw more of those thrip-like things. Sprayed the area down with dil hydrogen peroxide, and applied DE around the seedling.

Everything else is thriving. Syrian #4 has just broken surface.

Man, I'm stoked for this grow. It's the most indica-heavy I've done so far, also inc my first pure CBD cultivar - interested to see what effect the CBD has on its own.

Vaping the Sherbet Queen x Afghan Mix F1 right now. It's a banger. Really positive, uplifting, energetic - but with a calm body buzz. I've about 1/3 jar of this left, from last year's grow. Will be sad to see the last of this. There was a cutting but I gave it away in the end to a friend of a friend with all my other mothers when I needed to take a break from growing. Might see if I can get a cut of it back! I've been in two minds about whether to pop any of the F2s this grow (there were only 2 F1s, a male and a female, and I think I got 20 F2 seeds or so, and more in a cross with Purple Bud, which is also a fave). And then there's the seed from the male SQxA with the Medical Mass x White Rhino F2#5 ("Sleeper Service") - another I was sad to see the last of. Too many seeds to grow, too little time and space...

If you only have 20 and you like it, maybe an F3 run sooner rather than later? Sure they stay good for a nice while when properly stored so not like in a panicky way but in general..

hello friend, but what have you done with that soil? poor cotyledons ... will you have a slightly acidic ph?

Just checked feed pH. Its 6.5. Should lower that to 5.8. The medium is as described in the thread above - 70% perlite, 30% coir, for the Syrians, to maintain good drainage. The grey stuff is a sprinkling of DE to deter mites/thrips/fungus gnats. This one is the one I mentioned that had a rotten patch on one cotyledon on emergence. The brown patch is the scar from that damage. I'm hoping it'll outgrow it.

the de i have experience with. it won't do much once damp. it will provide some silica though . for soil larvae and soi pests, as a soil soak, try a neem ,horticultural soap ,rapeseed oil and water mix , and you can add pyrethrum too. rapeseed and soap alone does a good job.

Yeah, I've been reapplying the DE, and giving a little dusting directly whereever I see any mites (or thrips?? they might be thrips...). Have not seen any for several days so it might have done the trick. Neem oil soap is next if I see any more signs of them...

thrips adults. just soap is needed. the other formula is for soil soak to kill larvae

pyrethrum if it worsens.

neem just in the soil, and you have to emulsify using soap to make it mix with water

people do use neem on plants, i don't. just on the soil as a deterent
