All the repotted fems and the Pineapple Kush are growing well. They are overall a bit paler than I'd like to see, but have recently upped the feed strength so will wait a few days to see if that makes a difference before amending again. And the Syraians are still freaky. Tho I think each new node is a little more regular than the last. Hopefully they will remember who they are soon. Not sure if this is an old seed or inbreeding thing or whether its just a common trait in this landrace? Will be interesting to compare the second batch (of 12), which were bought several months later and differently packaged. No more thrips, so far...
Seeds were calling me today. Started off the following regs today:
5 x Rhino D (Verdant Green)
Have been waiting a while to get these going! Looking forward to growing some of VG's gear.
5 x Medical Mass (RQS) x White Rhino (MSNL) F1
Planning to use any good males from this batch to pollinate the Honey Cream (which also has WR as a parent), and the OG kush hybrids.
3 x Dance World (RQS) x Buddah (MSNL) F1
Last minute addition. They wanted to be grown. This one should be happy weed.
9 x Dance World Bx (Dance World x {Dance World x Johaar}#5)
Sad the last Dance World seed didn't make it - would have been good to bx it another round - but there should be some beautiful plants out of this. The DWJ#5 father was a vigorous and relatively compact plant with good terps and stickiness. Lots of seed from this, as well as from the #2 father plant. Some females, this time, would be appreciated. Will use any males to pollinate the ACE CBD#1 and the RQS Royal Highness - working the Juanita la Lagrimosa line.
So just the Erdpurt waiting on the sidelines now. And a few autos
Responding well to stronger feed. Will hold it steady a few more days and then up it again. 400-500ppm currently (except for the Syrians - they are getting c200ppm until they are potted on)
Pineapple Kush showing variegation.
Syrian 1, 2 & 4 are taking off now, re-potting soon. #3 still sitting there, not growing seed leaves. Last chance, kid...
Rhino-D: 4/5 [edit - 5/5 now ]
Dance World/Johaar Bx: 7/9
Medical Mass x White Rhino F1: 1/5
Dance World x Buddah F1: 2/4
These are currently all in 3 litre pots, multisown (1 strain per pot). I'll have to do a bit of juggling but will take cuts to make grafted plants and then flower out the multipots.
Everything else growing well. Will top the bigger ones today and repot the 3 viable Syrians. #3 is just sitting there, not growing any true leaves...
It's going to get busy in here very very quickly. Have been looking over the plants to identify which ones to graft first, so I can get everything backed up. Room to flower about 9 at a time in here, using 4-5 litre pots. Will be a challenge.
5/5 germination on the Rhino D. Looking robust. One has an interesting wonky leaf.
Medical Mass x White Rhino F1 4/5. One is withering...
Liking the compact structure on the Royal Highness.
I've settled on four of the plants I have multiples of - Honey Cream, ACE CBD#1, S.Kush and M.Kush - as graft mothers. These four have already been topped and will host the rest of the plants in the room. Once grafts have taken, I'll move these out to the back room and flip the grow space to flower. Done the usual thing of planting far too many seeds. Means that I have to make difficult choices about which ones to keep as they grow.
Syrians are growing well. They are diverse. #1 is quite elegant and narrow leaved. #2 has forked at only 3 nodes. Have not seen that before. #3, the runt, has finally started growing something leaf-like - tho more like a blob or an ear than a leaf at the moment. Lets see. Am keeping it for now to see if anything comes of it. I've had epic plants before that started out slow, irregular or damaged. #4 has fat leaves with shallow, blunt serrations.
I know. I shouldnt have started any more seeds. But....
I started some more seeds. And they popped. The Highland Thai purple pheno x Ethiopian were calling, strongly, to me. They want to pollinate the Kushes. What can I say? They will make interesting pollen parents, if any are male.
Inorite Wouldnt that be cool? I've a soft spot for the runts. Currently vaping my fave weed: Sherbet Queen x Afghan, and the original Sherbet Queen started off so badly she nearly got culled.
To the left in the bottom picture are S.Kush, M.Kush, and ACE CBD 1, looking sickly Weirdly their sibling plants (all bottom left in the top picture) are thriving. Different nutrient requirements?? - overfeeding??
Everything else growing rapidly, and looks like at least some of the grafts will take. I'll take some proper pics soon, once the leaves start growing.
Syrians continue to look more "regular", but no two are alike. #1 is pretty
Think I've been overfeeding. One of the ACE CBDs and one of the S.Kush are showing yellowing new leaves and some tip-burn on the CBD. I've given them a flush with plain pH'd water and am holding feed at a more moderate level now. Weird that all were getting the same feed, but only one of each strain was unhappy. My EC meter died, and I'm awaiting a replacement. Fingers crossed all stay on the rails until then..
All still growing rapidly. Am continuing to graft & prune/train. Up-potted the Highland Thai x Ethiopians. Culled Rhino-D #5 (the runt) as it had stalled. Some definite dankness coming off the cupboard now... Will need the carbon filter for sure this run.
Weird how one ACE CBD plant and one Kush out of pairs of seeds are showing similar unhappy symptoms whilst the other doesnt. Might be just one pheno is more sensitive to X Y or Z than the other... Overfeeding still my best guess (until a new EC meter arrives). Meanwhile sticking with a conservative est 400ppm, and letting the affected ones dry off a little.
Thanks @goingrey ! The previous pictures weren't good enough to show it, but there's tip burn too, on both the ACE CDBs, and severe yellowing mostly on the newest leaves on the S.Kush #2, that's making me think its more likely to be over than under feeding, plus everything else is lush green and growing rapidly - which shouldnt be the case if I was underfeeding generally. It'll be easier to diagnose once I've got my replacement EC meter. Fingers crossed.
In other news, I've pruned the lowest branches of the Royal Highness (beautiful, elegant plant - suspect this will be a dream to trim) and the healthy ACE CBD, and taken cuttings of each as backup.
Syrian #3 might just make it. After weeks of sitting looking very sorry for itself with only seed leaves, it finally pushed out some real leaves. Definitely moving in the right direction.
Got a new Essentials EC meter. Decided to shift from ppm on my crappy meter to a better quality one that measures EC - ppm seems less reliable.
Calibrating:
Dehumidifier water - 0.0
Tap water - 0.6 (seems about right. it's pretty hard)
So it looks like @goingrey was right... I'd been underfeeding. The mix I'd been using has an EC of 0.8. That's pretty low for coco. Strange that the others seemed OK with it!? Anyway, I've upped it now to EC 1.5, and will give that a few days to see how they react.
Have been away for a few days, and the plants seemed to benefit from the LITFA. Always a little galling when that happens Makes me suspect I have been overwatering as well as underfeeding. Am still holding at 1.5 EC, but watering less frequently. Growth is mostly better, but some plants are still struggling, and most are paler than I'd like to see. Some dont seem to be drinking much. I've increased the ventilation and decreased the humidity to try to get them back on track. The Honey Cream (RQS) are troopers, and just suck up whatever I throw at them. Would def recommend these for beginners. The Syrians (inc the ass-backwards #3) are all growing well - and all very different from each other. Starting to get some stank now (especially from the Kush crosses and the Rhino D). Carbon filter engaged for the first time since last year! (the Thais and Johaar/NLH crosses in the last batch were not stinky)
I've culled a few plants (inc a sickly ACE CBD#1 - but I have one left, and more seeds) and happier with the mix I have here. 3 of the initial round of grafts took - the rest failed. All the cuttings I took died. So it goes. I've done another round of grafts. I'll be moving a tray of grafted plants out to the spare room under the LED floodlights to keep them in veg, and flip the rest to flower at the weekend. It's going to be tight, but as males show I'll take them out to collect pollen and free up space for the remaining females.
