Fireknot farm 2016

Thanks bro. Was spraying Mn sulfate ground to a powder at 30ml/gallon/week.

I might skip a week then proceed at half a tsp per gal per week.

So I know this is a little off topic but bare with me for a sec as I know I got fellow outdoorsmen following along and I feel like I've done a good job keeping this thread on track:

I found what looks like 6-8" long mountain lion scat with deer hair in it on my road but I couldn't find tracks. I'm not sure what else this would be? A humbling find on my way to check on my garden this morning.

Edit...this explains why ive seen less deer (thx jbarsk) and why the buck was running around my house yesterday acting weird.

Also I have a girl visiting me soon we wanted to check out yosemite for a day and was wondering if anyone knew of any good secluded camping spots near there or on the way? Obviously camping in yosemite this late is out of the question but any suggestions are appreciated. I need a little mini vacation after all this work.

Either mountain lion or very large bobcat. They are incredibly stealthy and they rarely leave tracks. Only time you will really ever get lucky enough to see tracks are in very soft sandy earth or after a rain in the soft dirt around puddles and such. You will also notice when they are around, the deer seem to be very few and far in between, they know the lion is around.

Start watching for rattlers, too. Course you can't really 'watch out' for mountain lions. Found two rattlesnakes in my garden last year, hanging out in the shade of my plants. Stepped on one of them. It didn't even rattle. A buddy nearly stepped on one in his garden and I ate that one. It was pregnant. I overcooked its eggs but they were alright.

Pardon me if I already told this story.

Looking good Tess. Definitely gonna have some 12+footers. What are they about 5 feet already? I hope you have a big enough ladder lol

Thanks. Was 39 the other night or so...I'm definitely looking forward to the heat coming back this week. None have hit 5' yet but some are over 4.

Where did you source your rice straw?

The girls look great. Once the weather clears they really take off.

Is there a reason why people are using rice straw over alfalfa?
Rice straw is way cheaper! Like 2x cheaper. I'm pay 2x what I should for rice straw now, fall is the time to buy it. It's 7-9$ a bale in the foothills and alfalfa is like $13-18 I I think. I put alfalfa under my rice straw sometimes if I want the nitrogen. I feel like if the alfafa is exposed to the elements all the nitro offgasses in the form of ammonia.
