its still pretty early. you can pop seeds in april and still get 10lb plants. I might sprout another round in a week or so, just to compare

i was hanging with one guy tonight who said he popped his seeds 6 weeks ago, they are already a couple feet tall. I dont think he's putting them in huge pots either. not my style but whatever. I remember Tom Hill used to preach about the early starts not doing as well, and in my experience it's true if you start too early you are looking at problems later on. I think sprouting seeds / cutting clones in early - mid march is best but i have seen some great results with april starts

Anyone ever trapped a turkey?

I see a huge ass one for the first time up near my greenhouse!

Er...only if its legal, of course c:

Is anyone going to care if I eat this thing for lunch? Would I be poaching? I wonder what the ethics of hunting on your own property out of season are? I have no meat currently in my house.

To take turkey in this state you need both a Ca hunting license and an upland game bird stamp. Season is nov 14 - dec 27 unless using a bow (that extends the season a bit).
Why not get some chickens? Give them a safe place to stay at night (foxes and other predators will eat them), let them free range in the daytime. Meat, eggs and the love to eat ticks, scorpions, centipedes ,and other bugs. After my plants are a couple feet tall the chickens (mine at least) don't bother them.
They will however eat seedlings.

I might do that eventually good to know thanks, I dont want to do anything illegal, I cant imagine anyone around here cares though, but I'm a hermit and have no idea what anyones doing besides seeing their grows on google earth and hearing gun shots semi frequently.

I have not. I'll eat basically anything though. I'll be practicing my bow skills for the fall/winter have me some gameyasfuck thanksgiving mountain style. Stew then?

My neighbor last year would shoot squirrels with a bb gun almost every day and roast them over a fire pit.

There are no burritos here.

Damn that sounds good.

Im starting to see burritos in the trees.

I'll get off my lazy ass and finish my greenhouse tomorrow. I bugged the consultant again today. Gonna just play guitar and smoke hash and read/write.

Word. Come november...its game over...

I read a book on deer hunting once. They said the gameyness comes from bacteria if its not handled properly. Not sure if this applies to fowl.

If mr/mrs turkey was to be eaten I would make sure feathers and other body parts couldn't be found.....deep in compost pile.
Domestic rabbits can be raised in cages and is great meat, rabbit crap is also very good fertilizer.
Wild rabbit season is July 1 - Jan 31 for cottontail, all year for jackrabbit (jackrabbit is really tough and wormy).
There are lots of game that can be hunted, just do a search and find out rules.:peacock:

Wouldnt it be amazing (after I get licensed and have a few tags) to see one of those old school nooses tied to a bent branch trap work in real time? I would probably die if I saw that.

Anyway, thanks for the info, much appreciated.

The oak trees are budding and sprouting yellowgreen leaves against the sky. Spring is here.

I'd take wild turkeys (btw they taste wonderful, a little gamey but nothing bad)...also I am planning on running a chicken pen NEXT to the grow patch and do exactly as suggested, once the plants get to 2' let the chickens in! They eat the bugs and fertilize the ground...MOI BUENO!

_tessarecting....you're area looks like the foothills east of where I grew up in the central valley of Cali...beautiful...love this thread!

Thanks dude thats where I'm at and it's where I hope to stay. I'd be so happy if I never had to leave, but with my current track record the odds are simply against me. I tell myself to just enjoy the beauty while I can. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Other than my ghetto greenhouse...

One things for damn sure though---I'd rather be dead and gone than live in a city ever again---
