Well since I can zoom in on your backyard with google earth what do you think the authorities can do? I guess ignorance is bliss.

Lady, or sir... I cant help but guess why your paranoia has manifested itself in this way. I'll avoid that part.

Okay, I'm not sure the technology you're talking about even exists. But if it does law enforcement doesn't have access to it. And if the NSA thinks you're a worthy target, I think the nail in the coffin probably came before the drive to the hydro store.

If the government ever launches predator drones (which I'm sure would be renamed to something more fuzzy) over our cities..... thats when you can worry about people looking down your top when you're outside.

SOTF420: The reality of the situation is that there are simply not very many "spy" satellites in orbit. Most function similar to a camera so as they fly over a certain spot on the globe they snap images. Currently I am unsure if the tech even exists to display a live high quality video feed from a sat.

Because the GOV does not have advanced knowledge of where they will need to take pictures the satellites they use orbit around the earth which means they are not able to look everywhere at the same time. Along with all of that you have the immense cost of using these sats so I would assume most would currently be pointing somewhere in the middle east.

Hopefully this puts your mind at ease now when it comes to "spy satellites". There are many legitimate threats to your safety and privacy when you are a grower, no need to spend time worrying about irrational ones.

Even though I always dread the trip, I've been visiting the store recently instead of ordering online, because I have a nosey/chatty delievery guy who notices the return addresses and asks me what I got. All the companies I've used before have very obvious return addresses (like the word Hydroponics in the name), does anyone know a good online supplier in the U.S. who is more discreet about it? Maybe one that has an inconspicuous name or just uses the company's initials on the address label, or something ?

Okay, I'm not sure the technology you're talking about even exists.

I can attest to the fact I have used Demographic Profiling information to search for houses under Google Earth. Depending upon where it is and how long ago it was added, I can walk up to the front of your driveway and if your cars were outside at the time of picture, I can see your car type and colour. As well as a generous shot of your house.

I did this using a free program available to everyone.

Hell, If I could get your actual IP (Which could be easy or hard depending upon your security), and get my friend to get off counter strike, He could give me your entire address and additional information I could use to search where you live.

Technology is a wonderful thing when you have people around you that know how to abuse it.

Of course they do. CNN and the news channels were using it when Obama got sworn in. Having said that, LEO aren't using this shit to bust grows. Jesus some of you guys are loony. :xmasnut:

This is why i always make sure that no one is tailing me after i leave my local hydroponic shop. I'll sometimes scope out the parking lots near the store to see any suspicious looking cars or people sitting in their cars.

yeah, not having your car registered to your grow address just adds a really thick layer of security to your trip.

If they were just staking out the grow store looking for easy leads, they aren't going to pursue it any further because they might end up doing lots of work for nothing.

It's not so much "not having the car registered to your grow location" ... it's not having the car registered to your name & whatever utilities accounts you have. Pulling your name from your plates & then going to the electric co and finding you have multiple electric accounts, or high usuage doesn't require following you, just spotting you shopping & building a case. Spotting people at hydro shops is a successful way of building felony cases.

Did you think I was denying that Google Earth technology existed? lmfao.

I love how all these people who think they are tech savvy because they can program their VCRs talk like they have inside knowledge.

Thats a really ideal solution where you already have a partner in crime. If you're going to do all that, you might as well just deal with the logistics of taking a cab.

I wouldn't buy from the hydro store nearby preferably. I would drive about 30 miles out of the way for the security (well, and the bigger selection too).

Plus, if you have out of state tags like I did.... bwhahahahaha. Seriously, just adding one extra layer of work for police...that's a major deterrent. Fish net operations they just want easy grabs. Thats what hydro store stakeouts are.

whenever i visit hydro shops i always back track and ride through different neighborhoods to see if someones tailing me. watching the wire made me so paranoid about undercovers for the longest time.

Agents Shut Down South Denver Pot Operation

"Agents were doing surveillance on a horticulture store in Aurora and followed customers who bought hydroponic growing supplies.

Many who grow marijuana often use hydroponic equipment.

Civil rights attorney David Lane said this is a common tactic. "There is nothing illegal about seeing who comes and goes from a hydroponic store. There is nothing illegal about following them to their houses, or finding out where they live. There is nothing illegal about walking up a driveway and sniffing out a garage to see if it smells like marijuana," said Lane."

Very weak cause but not surprising. Green merchant tactics again? This seems like a waste of limited resources, Mr. President!

I know it's late in the thread, but yes, yes it is illegal.....it is illegal to fallow someone from a store, it's called stalking! Probably even menacing, then sniffing around their garage is called trespassing.

But, the law is basically a Mafia....they rarely prosecute each other!

I think you are a bit confused. This is a totally different technology. I work IT in the News Industry and a satellite uplinks are a totally different technology and yes they are very commonly used for news video. They are also vital for phones, internet, TV, etc. basically one of the most important technologies of our modern society.

Basically for things like the inauguration or other breaking news it works like this: camera crew on-site feeds to their news truck, this sends a feed over microwave back to the station and they then send the feed up to a communications satellite which is then transmitted down to the news bureau and then sent back up to satellites. The various stations have their dishes tuned into the correct sat much like you tune into a radio station and they receive and broadcast the signal. Satellite TV also works in a similar way. The dish on your roof is pointed at a satellite and receives the signal. Communications satellites can function like any other network, we even have IP based networks completely satellite based.

What I was referring to is a satellite with some type of high powered video camera satellite. The camera is able to zoom on a person/vehicle and is able to transmit this video feed live to the ground. Something like this probably exists in some form but it would not be something easily accessed. Currently it is unlikely for even still imaging sats to produce an image sharp enough to say read a licensee plate.

I dont even see how a live video from a satellite would even be useful. These objects are orbiting the earth at great speeds so it would only be right over your location for a small window of time, probably seconds. This is not an issue for imaging satellites because they are snapping pictures as they fly over but for a video satellite to be useful it would have to be in geosynchronous orbit which means its staying in one spot and thus can only be looking at one area. As you can see this simply becomes impractical. In fact the US military is currently buying giant airships to use for the purpose of having real time imaging of battlefields.

Did you think I was denying that Google Earth technology existed? lmfao.

I love how all these people who think they are tech savvy because they can program their VCRs talk like they have inside knowledge.

Agreed, I am by no means an expert...but I do have a good working knowledge of the sat systems.

Dude, I wasn't talking about satellite uplinks. On inauguration day, the news companies had live video feeds. They could zoom in and all around on live video down close enough to read a cig brand in someone's mouth. They said it was the first time they've been able to use this technology. Maybe it's because so many photo/video satellites were looking at the same area? I don't know. But they mos def had live satellite video and little touch screen tablets that could zoom in wherever they wanted. Anyway, this was a special occasion and LEO aren't using anything like this to bust growers.

Agreed, they are not using anything like this when they could sit outside a grow shop and just wait.

I am not sure what they were using for the inauguration but I cant find any info about satellite video. From what I can find only the GeoEye sat was being used and that just takes pictures. Could it be possible they were just panning and zooming on the image? Its also possible that it was a blimp or something of the sort.

Here is an article about the GoeEye which states it was the only sat being used.
http://digital.venturebeat.com/2009...ite-will-capture-the-inauguration-from-space/

Here is about as close to real time satellites get, its a actual feed from the Landsat but there is a delay of a few hours. Its fun to watch and lets you see how quickly these things are moving:
http://earthnow.usgs.gov/earthnow_app.html?sessionId=7a31d2cca8b2892eacdfba785e1227c72057

The government has access to the real-time stream of the images coming off of their high resolution sats but once again, its not like the movies where they can track a car. It could be used to say see a new pot field as it flys over the area but once they find something they cant stop the satellite and "take a closer look".

nope, no technology.Just hunches. they sit outside of shops and wait for someone to leave with a product, and bang! thats enough probable cause to follow you home and then anything they do after that varies but it usually ends up with someone in jail.

Gaining someones ip address would mean planted some sort of program to send it to you with out them knowingly giving it way to you like a website logger, and even if he did get your ip all it would do is give you the Adress for your ISP and only your ISP can give out your adress which The goverment have been trying to get them to do for a long time now.. but lucky my isp has refused several times now
