Quite a few philosopher's would disagree with you. I'm not trying to provoke... but why hold people like terry schiavo higher on the moral totem pole than chickens? We do... but why? An infant or a retarded person has about the same rational capacity as a chicken, yet we grant them more rights and treat chickens as property. Saying retards and infants are humans and chickens are chickens is a bit racist.

I don't know Terry so I can't speak about that. Rights and morals are not the same thing though, we can have rights which are morally wrong although you'd hope that they are based on moral grounds.

I really have a lot of respect for the way the Chinese eat. If it's not poisonous they will eat it, and even then they probably have a way of eating it. But man when they eat a chicken they really tear it apart, suck the marrow out of the bones, eat the feet, everything. Bugs, roots, rodents anything practically.

I never said I was perfect....

I might own a few leather items (dress shoes and 2 belts), but I never buy leather. Any leather I own was given to me, usually by someone who was going to throw it away.

As far as electronics, I don't really have much other than my PC, which I do not replace every 1-2 years...I wait until it is quite obsolete, and when I do get a new one, I recycle the old one or donate it to a charity that send it to the Third World to be used in schools.


I may not be perfect (never claimed to be), JF, but that in no way makes me a poser.......at least I think and care about my actions and what effect they have on other living things and the world around me...at least I make the effort.

Ireland hunting down thousands of escaped minks

DUBLIN — The roads and rivers of northwest Ireland are suddenly lined with mink.
Managers at Anderson's Mink Farm said Wednesday that many of their cages and fences were cut and opened over the weekend, freeing an estimated 5,000 animals into the wilds of County Donegal. About 28,000 others declined the invitation to bolt for freedom.
More than 100 already have been recaptured by hunters using cage traps, while several hundred others have been run over and killed. Drivers have reported seeing groups of the farm-reared animals standing, dazzled by headlights, in the middle of busy roads.
One of the farm's directors, Connie Anderson, blamed animal rights activists for invading the farm in the early hours of Sunday. He declined to explain why it took the farm so long to raise the public alarm.
"These people are animal liberation terrorists and had no thought for the mink or for the damage that will be done to other wildlife in the area," Anderson said.
Agricultural authorities warned that the surviving minks could decimate local populations of salmon, rabbits and fowl.

Animal rights activists in Ireland have denied responsibility — but are praising whoever did it.
"We have nothing to do with it. However, I commend whoever risked their freedom to do this as these animals have a horrendous life," said Bernie Wright, spokeswoman for Ireland's Alliance for Animal Rights.

Mink are an introduced species with no predators as such, they will absolutely trash the local population of native wildlife in that area before they spread out.

The mink population in Ireland is already exploding and these animal rights idiots release 1000's of them into the wild with no concept on how much damage they are going to do.....well done guys, great way to wreck the place.

Mink prefer to eat waterfowl, fish and crustacions but will start killing rabbits if they are hungry. They also kill muscrats for food. The bad part here is mink are like cats. They will kill other animals just to kill.

I couldn't even fathom what 5,000 of them in one area could do. They would wipe out all of the ducks and geese in the area quick. There wouldn't be any muscrats and chicken farmers would have to guard their birds 24 hours a day until the bulk were killed off or spread out.

If an animal lovers group did this they sure werent thinking. In a couple weeks time these things could kill a hundred thousand other animals and birds. I've heard stories of one mink killing a dozen chickens at one time....

I have the greatest respect for "life" but my respect for it does not trump my love and utter trust in nature. I'm a meat eating, meat juice loving animal.

Now if you really want to respect life, I say respect it by doing it right, over good quality charcoal.

Unfortunately charcoal is getting rare here in Japan, not much wood. We have to rely on China for most of our charcoal.

See what some of you people need to accept is that respecting life does not only mean not killing animals, that's your hang-up, not the worlds. For many life is a circle that includes death, we give our thanks to the animals we eat, or to the gods or whatever. Your concept of respect for life doesn't trump ours.
