Effects of burning/vaping

Just have a look at the stuff you scratch out of your pipe / bong / bowl or wherever
most of it is basically tar ...

it gets in your mouth, your throat, your lungs. And it will remain there for a while ... irritating the fuck out of the surrounding tissue

do that on daily basis, and whatever it is you're smoking ... cancer risk increases. I am well aware that tobacco (esp industrial tobacoo & cigarettes) are way more carcinogenic than weed, but residue from combustion will always be bad news, dependin on how much you put inside you how often.

I switched from smoking to vaping a year ago, and I still smoke a pipe or roll one up from time to time (mainly when I am somewhere my vape isn't). Yes, the high is different, and yes, it's not that instantaneous rush you're probably used to from smoking ... but I'd rather inhale as little carcinogens as possible, so I limit the amount of weed I smoke and still get high from vaping. There's not even a question for me.

Yea, this is how i feel it also.

Here's my experiences after my first ever vape-hits from yesterday, when my first vaporizer arrived (Volcano). So not an experienced vaper, but i have smoked around 20 years.

Effect
With sativa-leaning strains, i feel you might not notice much of a difference between vaping and smoking, but the more "indica" the effect is, the more you can feel the difference. Smoking a certain strain i get more tingly all over my body and the stone is heavier than from vaping the same strain, but there still is nice stoned-effect from vaping. ..but i like the effect from smoking more than vaping.
But like i mention, some weed i tried is not too different whether you vape or smoke.

If i had to knock myself out to get some sleep with an indica strain, i would do bong hits, not vape it.

But if i wanna get a day time high/body-high, then vape will do the thing quite nicely.

Taste
If i got primo-grown bud, say super tasty strain like UK Cheese, i'm not sure i wanna vape it taste-wise. I think i'd rather smoke it in a joint (pure), not in a bong or pipe, but as joint of pure weed, no tobacco.

Again, with some strains that might have a narrow terpene-profile, the taste from vaping and "burning" might not be too different, and vaping might win the battle when all things considered (health, amount of weed you have to use etc.) .

But with some strains (UK Cheese x Deep Chunk as an example) , i noticed i don't get the same flavors i can smell on the growing plant, on the dried bud and in the taste from a bong hit or a joint when i vaped it. For me that is an issue with nice herb like the Chunky Cheese, which has a complex profile.

Second thing i noticed, with some strains the vape bag(s) after the first one suffer huge DROP in over all quality (like it's totally different plant---again the Chunky Cheese), but with this other strain the taste got just milder, but kept the "profile" quite well.
..but the second/third vaped bags of Chunky Cheese just tasted horrible, and the "horrible part" was the after taste i got from all that. It wasn't the worst tastes in the world, but i was actually quite surprised how it changed so much!

Edit:

Actually..
I have to change my view somewhat about vaping and the taste, because of a curious thing had taken place, while i wrote the report.
The aroma of my ChunkyCheese had dropped -off dramatically, and i noticed this few weeks after writing about it when i rolled a joint of it..
..and tasted just about nothing at all!
I didn't expect this to happen, cause the last batch at this point of long-cure only got better. I struggled with temps and dry air with the grow and i knew it wasn't the best batch regarding the taste/terps, but the drop-off was still unexpected and also quite timely with my report.
With my new batch of ChunkyCheese, i get nice taste of the plant, and it doesn't taste so bad the teo last bags.
But over all my thoughts about the taste ae somewhat the same as earlier ..vaping weed and smoking it in a pure joint is different, and the taste of vaped weed hasn't fully won me over. Like i wrote earlier, it's quite nice with fruity strains, but maybe does not work so well with complex, "darker"(meaty, earthy, coffee) tasting strains

So taste wise vaping is strain dependant thing for me. Some strains, to me, don't taste as nice when vaped, they don't even taste like the same plant. I doubt i will be vaping the Chunky Cheese again, thou it is actually my favourite smoke of the plants i'm keeping! Vaping just ruins her awesome taste.

So i like vaping, with some type of weed it sure beats smoking it, but over all, i think i like smoking little more, the effect and taste from pure joints, i mean.
..my lungs seem to like the vaping more than i do. Booooo lungs!:moon:

I think some strains seem to hit harder somehow in a smoke form, but not many, just a few. Therefore a higher vaporizing temperature with those should make the vape high more complete with those ones.

I've been thinking..

..that the temps during smoking are so high/high enough that the molecules from the different compounds might take new forms and this is why the effect is different, if you guys get what i mean.

To me the effect from vaping is some how abit similar to eating cannabis. ..kinda like this "glow" all over my body, rather than the tingly heaviness what i get from smoking.

Like i mentioned in my earlier post, with some strains the difference is not so apparent ( Exodus Cheese S1's by GHS, which is Skunk #1). But when the effect goes towards the stoned-end of the spectrum, the difference is more noticeable, like i noticed with my Chunky Cheese, which has stoney Deep Chunk in it.

Now i have been vaping Ice (nirvana) and it's closer to the smoking experience thatn the Chunky Cheese is. Taste wise also the Ice works better with the vape than the Chunky. Sure the second bag is milder in taste, but it doesn't go off into horrible like the Chunky.

hey GoatCheese, good for you!
when i first started vaping i had kinda same impressions as you do, tastewise...
it took over a year (and quit smoking) to really starting to feel all sublte differences beetween strains when vaping... now i will never have a nice taste feeling when smoking.
also, when you really get into vaping, you can start playing with temperatures and feel the differeces in effect, which are many. try vape a heady sativa at 160-180°C and you really take advantage of the heady! :)
but it takes a while to really dig low temps...
BTW try different vapes, if you have the chance some nice portable, like Alfa, Davinci Ascent, Solo or one of S&B portables... i have a plenty for home use but i actually like more the taste from 2 portables i tried extensively, the Alfa and the Ascent.

Yeah, if you smoke tobacco, then you can't blame cannabis for your lung cancer, because tobacco has been proven to cause lung cancer. Same as if you were a coal miner and you smoked pot. If you got cancer, you couldn't blame it on the weed.

Andy Kaufman didn't smoke anything, but he died of lunch cancer (or DID he?:big grin:) Most likely second hand smoke.
.

Shit I dont want no LUNCH cancer, does that mean no sandwiches? or just stop having LUNCH?

bothers me big time, and is why I rarely use my vape (arizer solo). Im concerned about my health as well with combustion, but to me its jut a waste of perfectly good weed putting it in a vape.
I MUCH rather get out my bong and take some nice rips and get faded. I'm a veteran smoker and vaping my bud just doesn't do it for me.

Save the revape and make brownies then u enjoy it twice. None wasted..I almost feel the revape brownies stronger than bud brownies somehow.

Hey Ziggy..
Yea, i have read about the temps, and understood it like you put it.
I've played with the temps a little bit ..between 7 - 8 + on my classic version of Volcano.

My problem is that, i'm not that much of a sativa-guy now a days because of my health issues.
I have a really bad sleeping disorder and when my bad-season has gone on for like a month or two, i get so shaky, faint, nauseous and edgy ..Basically getting a "super nauseous sugar crash" feeling even thou i just ate a while ago (doesn't happen all the time) and my mind is running 200 km/h every waken minute, so heady sativas isn't really my thing any more

..before this started Cinderella 99 was one of my favorite smokes, so i have nothing against rushy sativas, they just don't suit me that well anymore.

I can still smoke little bit of some clear euphoric sativas (Amnesia Haze, Neville's Haze, Satori etc.), but when they are on the rushy, edgy, paranoia territory, i really don't wanna even try it anymore, cause i feel like shit for 85% of a calendar year even without them.

The high-effect, if i wan't one, is more like calming body high, rather than super uplifting pick-me-up, and for that the vape is great with sativa-indica hybrids.

i see... well, if you're looking for a "sedative" effect, i would suggest you to vape at higher temps (like 200-210-220 max °C - don't know which setting is on the volcano...).
i am a taste chaser more than a high chaser, but highwise i like hybrids. for the past 2 years i've been smoking OGs mostly (a new thing for me being european). generally OGs lean towards their indica or sativa side, but in my limited experience, they tend to be a mix of the 2 sides... that's what i like about OGs' high... so with the vape i can play with temps depending if i wanna go do stuff or wanna go to bed! :D
if you like to be on one side, :) try some nice indica maybe vaped (again) at higher temps.
takes some time... being at higher temps, i think smoking is still more efficient as a sedative.

cheers GC!

Yea, i have it around those temps. I think i'll be keeping it around 8 which is about 214 Celsius or 417 Farenheiht.

I tried it @ 9 but the taste suffers really bad and there is not a huge difference in effect, so it's pointless to run it that hot, imo.

I get higher for longer with a gram from vaping and eating the vaped bud afterwards. I don't know the exact numbers, but vaping is way more efficient for me.

Interesting idea there... could save all the vaped bud and make some 'butter' or oil from it. Hmm...

yeah abv (already been vaped), has the advantage of being already decarb'ed, so the remaining cannabinoids are "activated". sometimes i just put some abv on a buttered slice of bread. or i use it when making cookies: in this case i add abv with the melting butter at the end so that butter melts cannabinoids. if i use both trim or flowers and abv to cook, i would decarb. (put in the oven at 130/140 °C for 15 mins) trim ad flowers beforehand, and add abv at the end...

Thanks, I'll try baking in the oven first when I next make some butter.

I just dumped all my old vaped weed into some Coconut oil. I'll let it sit for a while before I try to boil it down...

I mostly vape, but every now and then, I'll smoke a joint. I can tell the difference. Vaping seems to be much cleaner on the lungs. I can run several miles after vaping!!

I do not like to vaporize above around 177°C for the taste. (Though the effects of higher temps are needed sometimes)
So the abv is really worth it for cooking or making fat extracts. Until now I just threw it away...

Now that i've been using the Volcano awhile, i usually start at 6 or little over, the next bag i vape at around 7, after that 1 - 2 bags at 7,5 and the rest at 8 to 8.5.
with some type of weed the taste is too thin or "one sides" if i vape the first bag at 6, like the ChunkyCheese i have mentioned a few times, and so with the Chunky i start around 6.5- 7.

:)

I dig vapour more than inhaling burning matter into my lungs. Always concerned about health. Unfortunately, the psychoactive effect when using vapes is diffirent to that from blunts/bongs/etc. Noticeably, body effect diminishes. You're likely to get clearer, into the center of your brains effect. This is not something you always want, indica strains suffer.

Is this bothering anyone else? ;)

Vaping over burning. No fumes in house, better taste, much lower consumption cost, stealthyness, better high ( clearer).

I think that joints do damage health although not really bad. Vaporizing puts no combustion gasses in my lungs which is much better. it does put a sticky stuff in the lungs like the stuff coming from the mouth peace of the vaporizer. If I was only vaporizing I would have a better nose and taste.

Totally! I meant to post this few days back, but forgot. If you want to stay in hiding from the nosey neighbours, vaping over burning, no doubt. Vaping produces very, very little smell in the room compared to smoking.

One other note, vaping won't save you from poorly flushed weed! It's still ruff stuff to inhale and you get to cough up black shit afterwards.
I had few plants with tiny root systems in too large pots and they didn't flush very well and it shows. still can't inhale that stuff.
