Deadliest catch

"Deadliest Catch" crew member Justin Tennison of the F/V Time Bandit was found dead in a hotel yesterday ... and TMZ has learned cops discovered drugs and alcohol in the room.

Law enforcement officials in Homer, AK tell us they got a call at 12:52 PM yesterday reporting a deceased male at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. Upon arrival they found 33-year-old Tennison lying on a bed unresponsive.

We're told a search of the room -- which was registered to Justin -- turned up a small amount of marijuana, as well as several bottles of alcohol in the refrigerator. Cops tell us they believe there had been a party in the room the night before.

It's unknown if the booze and drugs played a role in Justin's death -- his body was transported to the State Medical Examiner ... and an autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Time Bandit captain Andy Hillstrand posted on his Facebook page that Justin had served as an engineer aboard the fishing boat during the offseasons -- and just joined the crew as a deckhand a few months ago for the crab season.

i read about this today too.
..really sad news

here is what capt. johnothan said about it on facebook:

''In Memory of Justin Tennison

It is with great sadness that the Time Bandit family announces the death of crew member, Justin Tennison. Justin died peacefully in his sleep the night of February 21, 2011.

Justin fished commercially for many years, living in Alaska for 28 years. He worked on the Time Bandit, alongside his second cousin, Ed...die Uwekoolani, Jr., serving as Engineer during the tendering seasons, and joined the Time Bandit crew as a deckhand fishing the Red King 2010 and Opilio 2011 seasons.

Justin was tough as a bull and was an all-around good hand. The Captains and Crew appreciated his hard work and many contributions this past year. We will miss him terribly and wish his family all the best during this most difficult time.

Justin is survived by a son, daughter, sister, father and grandparents. He was 34 years old."

that's really too bad, I for one don't normally sympathize with people that abuse their bodies with cigs, liquor and hard partying; no matter how hard you work there's no entitlement to self abuse if others depend on you and your health. I feel especially bad for those kids he left behind.

What's everyone think of the new season?

I love the new greenhorn on the Seabrooke... Resume was 15,16, even 19 hours work days moving furniture (thought he was hot shit)... and then he breaks a few hours in, cuz a few of the deckhands started calling him a "fucking faggot" (even though they bleeped it out, you could tell this is what was being said) Unbelievable. Welcome to the pussification (in George Carlin's words) of the American male.

Pretty disheartening to see Jake smoking weed on the boat after passing that piss test.

I think Jake on the Northwestern is my new favorite guy to watch. He's a work horse, can take shit, and is hungry for the captain's chair. He doesn't seem like the shiniest marble in the bag, but he's got a insane work ethic.

And in reference to the health of the stocks in the industry as a whole, Alaskan crab is in good shape.

The monterey bay aquarium puts out a sustainable seafood watch list, giving a rating to every species, based on how destructive the harvest of that species is.

King crab is listed as "Good Alternative," which means it's not the best choice to eat, but you're not hurting the stocks by doing so.

What a fucking load of festering bat guano that seafood watch is....they also list blue marlin and swordfish as a "Good Alternative" as long as they come from Hawaii, because there is minimal bycatch.....no matter that global levels of all billfish are down by almost 90%....if it's from Hawaii it's OK folks......

Total fucking horseshit.......

josh and jake need to listen to listen to the new capt. .... (and jake needs to take the shit more seriously or get off at the next stop)

they fukin' hired capt. derrick.....pretty awkward situation there anyway, but they have more on the line now being part owners of the boat and still just being deckhands... they're not even "deckboss" material.....and after 5 years sure should be.

i don't see either one ever running the boat anyway

poor freddie...that dude is as solid as they come!

The greenhorn on the F/V Seabrooke was having a conniption fit because the guys on the deck were calling him a "fucking faggot" because of the way he wore his hat sideways.. lol... I chuckled at that one.

And to those still following this thread... what'd ya'll think of Jake in the last episode? Kid is part owner and that's the way he acts... wtf...

I did a search didn't see a thread on this. I love this show. Heen watching it since day one. Spoiler alert....

So did anyone watch the episode of jack possibly getting caught smoking marijuana on the ship? And whole crew stood by his side. I find this sad after Phillips passed away. I really hope to see those boys next season with a better skipper, who isn't a asshole about marijuana smoke. I feel jake uses it for medical. To help fight his addiction. Among I'm sure the physical pain on a crabbing, boat. Perfect example of peoples hidden agendas. Skipper only did it to protect his name. But looked likean ass at the end, for calling the cops.... You think jqke going strategically to the airport looked bad on him?

If he was smoking on the ship he should be thrown overboard. Seriously, if i were on that boat and he did that shit I'd throw his ass over the side. There is a reason it's the most dangerous job there is. You don't need some stoned asshole working by you, trust me on that.

doing drugs on a boat is bad mmmkay. you need to be totally aware and sober for safety. being high could cost someone their life. i worked on alot of boats when younger and would never put up with drugs while working

S

stoney-trees

I do shit better when I am high...so...lol Id have more chance killing myself sober than high.

all you old guys who get blown to heaven off a hit shouldnt be doing it...but anyone with half a tolerance can handle a few puffs of herb and do there job.

your full of shit^^^ one second delay due to being stoned could kill someone. i dont need a crew member staring at seagulls while i am being dragged overboard.have you ever worked on boat? its a team effort and all members need to be on their game and sober. end of story. i aint old middle aged maybe and my tolerance is way up there son

There is a time and place to smoke. I certainly wouldn't want to work by someone stoned on one of those ships. Just as I wouldn't want to work with someone stoned on a drilling rig. Too easy to get killed. I've seen it happen. It's pretty common though. And if any of the hands got caught doing it the whole crew would stand up for them. Doesn't mean it's right. You are playing with people's life and limbs literally. Anyone seen a stoned dude get all his fingers cut off by an iron roughneck? Not a pretty site.

Weed and dangerous team activities that require trust and quick thinking is a no no. If you want to do something dangerous by yourself stoned then that's your prerogative and I could care less.
