Many people also seem unaware that if a worker was injured-and then tested positive for any "illicit" compound-the supervisor/foreman etc could be facing potential jail time! as well

I lost what little respect I had for him when he got called out for smoking on the boat, especially after the brothers were all like "we got something to prove" after Phil passed. Jake honestly seems like a spoiled little shit from seasons past. At first I hated Josh, but he has grown on me over the last couple of seasons.

Now if he was smoking off tour and was not going to be doing any work on deck for the rest of the night that would cool in my book.

Just like if a roughneck wanted to smoke after his tour was over. Totally cool. I would even encourage them to do so. However, if I caught a hand stoned on the drilling floor working I would run them off in a heartbeat and not think twice about it. This new captain calling the cops was a bitch ass move. Only the douchiest of the douches would do something like that.

A boat can be seized by the coast guard for even a trace amount of any thc.

Many captains smoke, but they have to have a zero tolerance for anyone who is caught.

As far as smoking while working on a commercial fishing vessel?

I did it for 4 years and ran circles around the other crew members.

You either got what it takes to be a fisherman or not, a little toke is irrelevant IMO.

NOT TO MENTION MOST THOSE FUCKERS ARE ALWAYS HITTING THE BOTTLE.

I understand all y'all talking about safety and all that stuff but statements like "your full of shit^^^ one second delay due to being stoned could kill someone" seem kind of overboard to me. From what I've seen of this show it looks like the hours spent awake doing hard work could impair you just as much, if not more, than certain quantities of cannabis smoke.

I haven't seen this episode so I don't know if he was blazing in the middle of a shift or what but from a safety standpoint I don't see it as that big of a deal. With regards to regulations, insurances, etc. I'm sure it's a different story.

I watched the first season and thought it was ok.

I fucking hate discovery for running this shit for like 6 seasons.

I liked mythbusters but that shit got old too.

this is why i can't have nice things like tv because I'm so jaded. This is why i have the outdoors.

your full of shit^^^ one second delay due to being stoned could kill someone. i dont need a crew member staring at seagulls while i am being dragged overboard.have you ever worked on boat? its a team effort and all members need to be on their game and sober. end of story. i aint old middle aged maybe and my tolerance is way up there son

when i was 15 i didnt stare at the food while making pizza's...and i was stoned as shit.

didnt fuck up on a fork lift when i did that for 2 years...

or any other job for that matter. Being stoned does not effect my ability to think...alcohol does though...and as mentioned that shit is on boats.

Whos to say he didnt smoke a bowl before getting his 4 hours of sleep...

quit bitching. he owns part of the boat. its his choice. hell, maybe the entire crew smokes. you dont know.

i think the show is just "ok".

it was good for the first few years until it got to be extremely redundant. it's similar to whale wars, like.. what exactly happens during each episode? absolutely nothing. what have i gained from the show? absolutely nothing.

not hating, just saying, its become really boring the last few seasons. seems like they've ran out of creative ideas for episodes.

COOKIE MONSTER

you were able to determine my work history from a singe post?

I dont need to determine your work history friend, the fact that you think you could do that job stoned has told me enough.

Some jobs you are better off and safer waiting till your on the way home and the work is done to get stoned.

what part cant be done stoned? Standing. sorting crab. throwing some ropes. steering a ship. controlling a crane...

I could stand in front of you and you would have no idea if i was high or sober. im not a 15 year old who cant control the giggles that he gets. I smoke grams a day. Plus a gram or so of hash...its called tolerance. I have never been in a wreck driving high...I think that requires some more attention than fishing.

So long as you're driving a fork lift in circles and throwing bacon on some dough, I don't really care what you do.

But if you ever decide to join grown up society- you know, doing intellectually serious work amongst real men who contribute- it's probably better to not be under the influence of narcotics.

You know, surgeons. EMT's. Engineers building bridges. Probably better they be sober. Call me a square.

I swear to Christ, one of the main reasons I want pot legal so badly is so I can join with the non-smokers in condemning mentally retarded/drug addict stoners who think smoking blunts of 25% THC hash all day is like drinking a fucking Pepsi. As it is now I have to stand in solidarity with these fucks.

Drug Investigation on 'Deadliest Catch' Boat
11/29/2010 3:20 PM PST by TMZ Staff

The fishing boat featured on the reality show "Deadliest Catch" was the subject of a police search earlier this month after the captain called cops claiming one of the stars had been abusing drugs on board ... this according to law enforcement.

The Unalaska Department of Public Safety (Unalaska is a city in Alaska, weird ...we know) tells TMZ ... police responded to the famous "Cornelia Marie" on November 5, 2010 after receiving a call from Captain Derek Ray.

We're told Ray -- who took over the boat after the death of Captain Phil Harris -- told cops Phil's son Jake Harris (a deckhand on the boat) had been abusing prescription drugs while at sea.

Officials tell us ... cops searched the boat and found "paraphernalia" -- but not enough evidence to connect Jake to a crime.

Cops interviewed everyone on the boat -- but so far, no arrests have been made.

UPDATE: A rep for Jake told us "The facts of the case speak for itself, the Unalaska Department of Public Health has confirmed that no charges will be filed as a result of the investigation. Jake is looking forward to returning as part of the Cornelia Marie crew to the Bering Sea for the opilio crab season in January. "
