Deadliest catch

He's an Asshole the way he treats his Crew and one episode when they had to be back by 12:00 am the crew member was sleeping and he went down to the guys bunk and shoved him to get up and the guy had a welt on his head from the captain shoving him.

That's just dead wrong period.

I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective. He told his crew 12am (I thought it was funny when Cliff/Curt/****, whatever the fuck his name was, said "ok, then 1am at the latest basically and Bill basically says "are you fucking deaf? I said 12am." And even after that, they didn't listen. You could tell he was pissed in the bar when he walked in at 3. He told the crew to get up. One guy didn't listen. Hence, he was in for a "rude awakening."

The guy was an asshole for disrespecting the captain like that. How are you supposed to run a boat (or any kind of business for that matter) when your employees have no respect for you?

This ain't no vacation cruise.

Man ive loved this show for years and i knew the whole phil thing was coming this whole season but still it was hard to watch. At least he got another season fishing with his sons and he went out like a true man.Almost was creepy at the end though. It seemed like he knew what was coming the way he was acting, asking for his lucky necklace and all.Talkin to josh the way he was.Helluva man.Helluva life.Helluva show.

His opilio crew made more than any other boat except the Wizard. Evidently Wild Bill has a SERIOUS quota, which means LOTS of loot. His crew can party the rest of the year, while they make more in two months than I make in a year. That's assuming they don't work at any other time, which a lot of them work another crab season.

NO SHIT It's not a vacation Cruise, Putting your hands on anyone is a crime so either way you slice the cake it's still assault!

If you like to be someone's Bitch good for you but i'm sure their are many here who would never let anyone shove or grab or put their hands on them period.

The toughest jobs in the world don't make it right to act like the prick he is and out of all the fishing fleet's he doesn't fit in and never will.

I agree.

These men work on crab boats not some cushy Microsoft job. These men literally risk there lives to catch crab and work one of the most physically demanding jobs out there. If you can't listen to your boss (the captain) and he comes in and roughs you up a little bit.... well that's what you signed up for. That is what you deserve when a captain is paying you 50, 60, 70,000+ to work 6 months out of the year. Can't take the heat? get off the boat is how I feel. The captain can be as much as a prick as he wants. Captains face an incredible amount of stress. They have quotas to meet in which they must meet by a certain deadline, or face heavy fines. Then they have about 1000 other things to worry about including the lives of 6+ other men. If something goes wrong its THERE FAULT.

Anyone saying captain Bill is a dick needs to go work a boat on the bearing sea for a while and see if they aren't a stressed asshole too. Considering the circumstances I think most of these captains are quite fair. Again, you know what you signed up for. If you can't handle it go flip burgers at McDonalds so you can get your break every 6 hours. I on the other hand would love to go work for captain bill or captain sig. if you take care of them they will definitely take care of you and treat you like family. despite being a hardass go and look at how captain sig treats that kid jake. when it comes down to it all of these capitains would give there life to save there crews lives. thats all there is to say.

Discovery sues Deadliest Catch duo for $3 million

Discovery sues Deadliest Catch duo for $3 million

just caught this gem.......

Most reality TV producers follow a simple format: Capture what happens, and then have cast-members fill in story gaps with voice-overs and cutaways. But what to do when reality TV stars jump ship before sitting down for the required interviews?

Sue them, of course.

Discovery is seeking $3 million in damages after two stars of "Deadliest Catch," Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand, allegedly failed to live up to an agreement to complete a spin-off project.

According to the breach-of-contract lawsuit, filed last week in Maryland Circuit Court, the Hillstrands were to film a one-time special called "Hillstranded." The duo was coming off five seasons of "Deadliest Catch," one of the most popular programs on any Discovery-affiliated network. The special was to document the team's various adventures in Alaska; work unrelated to their jobs as crab fisherman. Two weeks of principal photography was shot in June, but there was still work to do.

"The Hillstrand Defendants determined that they would reverse course, dishonor their promises, and refuse to render the services necessary to complete 'Hillstranded,'" reads the complaint.

At the end of August, Discovery allegedly called the brothers to confirm a date, time and location for them to sit for interviews. The complaint says the only response was an e-mail from a lawyer for the brothers informing producers that they shouldn't attempt any further contact with them.

Discovery argues that the failure by Hillstrands to complete work has caused production on the show to remain uncompleted. The company says that the show would have earned significant ratings and that it has suffered substantial losses as a result.

The Hillstrands' lawyer likened the lawsuit to extortion, and said it might even force his clients to sell their boats and fire their crews. He also took aim at the network's well-paid top executive.

"The recent actions of Discovery Communications are an astonishing and shameful instance of arrogance and greed run amok," attorney Jeff Cohen said in a statement.

"While CEO David Zaslav reaps a $33.9 million bonanza in a single day in January 2010, his company attempts to bankrupt hardworking fishermen. Three million dollars is exponentially greater than any compensation ever paid to the 'Deadliest Catch' captains, and yet this is the figure Discovery is trying to extort from these men.

"Isn't there enough unemployment in America without forcing hard-working sea captains to declare bankruptcy, sell their boats and fire their crews?," he asked.

He also referenced the death earlier this year of Captain Phil Harris, which was chronicled by the show.

"Discovery is a multi-billion dollar corporation making hundreds of millions of dollars from broadcasting the dangerous exploits of our clients. In light of all the tragedy witnessed by Captain Sig (Hansen), Capt. John and Capt. Andy this year, why can't Discovery let these working men move on with their lives?"

I can't understand why people could side with the fisherman here, unless I'm missing something.

The crabbers got paid lots of money to basically do what they always do, while highly intelligent/creative producers and film crews manufacturing a great reality TV show. Everyone got rich, or at the very least got lots of dough. They signed a contract for a lot of money, and didn't live up to that contract. Now they wanna play the "awww shucks, we're just a coupla workin boys against the big-wigs" line? They even had their lawyer bring up the death of a friend, like that has anything to do with it? Pretty shameless IMO.

How could you expect Discovery not to sue them? I'd sue if I paid someone a shit-load of money to complete a task, only to have them walk away, too.

we have always thought that the hillstrands are growers. i don't know why, but it just seems that way. maybe my hubby mr. mountain can say more specifically why. maybe b/c they seem down.

and maybe right after phil died isn't the best time to make them cough up this other show . . .

I dislike how the hillstrands blew up with tv commercials etc and have the cash flowing through their veins now and it changes people into money hungry assholes that effect everyone around them and are they thinking about the viewers who supported them to fame NOT!
