most common issue with a worm bin is too many food scraps that stay wet as they decompose. worms come to the surface after rain for a reason.

I can grow seeds completely and entirely underwater with enough oxygen, I do it with barley seed all the time for SSTs, yet, unlike hydro, nobodies pumping O2 directly into their soil....

take it or leave it, but too moist for too long or too compact and your soil will kill your worms.

certain chems also have a vast effect....

"Unlike many animals who need oxygen to survive, worms have no lungs. Rather, they “breath” with their skin. Worms need to stay moist because oxygen dissolves on their wet skin, sending the oxygen into the worms’ bloodstream. In general, there is not enough oxygen in water to sustain a worm, so a worm will eventually suffocate (i.e., drown) if they are left under water. However, this can take several weeks, and if enough oxygen is dissolved in the water in which a worm lives, the worm could theoretically live indefinitely."

But can they reproduce in that water environment and for the young to grown to reproductive age or would they still need the "soil" environment to reproduce the next gen and then the next and so on?

Worms will self-regulate. I don't think it's possible to "over do" them. If you have a lot of them you will turn your pots into pure castings faster, which means you will have to "remix" your soil. I don't know anyone not "remixing" their soil after it's been turned into pure castings, but I would love to see it.

Here's 5 pounds of total worms under 2 600 watt lights. I bought to many. I could have gone with just a couple pounds easily. :) This is lights out, and a little over 3 weeks in.

Just heard back, and your flower entry ($50) actually gets you a grower's pass. Not a bad deal. They also need 45g of flower according to their guy. Just a heads up.

In addition to the flower entry raise, the concentrate entry was also raised to 10g. I didn't hear about edibles but they might have been raised as well.

Haven't had anything judged before, is that amount typical? Anyway, looking forward to the event "irregardless" (to quote Paulie Walnuts).

re: !RA! & whodatis; that quantity is typical, not unusual for cups to ask for 60+ grams (htcc wanted 100g iirc), a hash cup i was involved with years ago wanted 2 oz of wax for entries.

2 ozs? thats just greedy... we all know 2 ounces of wax is no "sample" size.... those fools wanted lots of leftovers.

yhea, nowhere near 2 oz was given out to judges..... but in defense of the promoters they did give away free dabs to all who attended, all day for 3 days.

Too bad the entry amount isn't 1 oz.

Wait... what was I thinking? It's about promoting the industry, not about promoting personal growing. What would it mean if the best toke in the house came from some guy's micro grow?

Yep. I entered the 710cup jst for fun. Year befor last. They asked for 1oz for judging n also did solvent testing. But trsting for pesticides were not req at that time.
It was prob all full of avid n E20!... But we will never know..

Anyway it was fun! Got to chat w a lot of extractors & growers n smoke some fire wax.
They did have some cool swag venders n some good seeds available too.
htcc can b interesting. But the small comps are whare the funs at.

Bragging rights would b cool.
But the comps in legal areas are ALL ABOUT MARKETING.
The comp gets press"adverts" and the winners get to advertise there (extraction company, dispensary,or S1seed bs)

There no benifit to all that event advertising just to give it to someown who may not even want there full name and grow disclosed.
It's all about marketing and sinergy for advertising.

Except the icmag cup. That ones for us. ;D

Big ups respect and happy growing.

Wait... what was I thinking? It's about promoting the industry, not about promoting personal growing. What would it mean if the best toke in the house came from some guy's micro grow?

there are more and more cups that are aimed directly at that: small personal growers.
because last year MED came out "against" state licensees participating in "unapproved" events.
I was TOLD that the recent THC (the hemp connossoir mag) cup was OK'ed by MED and therefore companies were "allowed" to participate.

personally I'd love to see small "no-name" growers win cups... and have cups based around the concept that small timers can keep up with the warehouse guys....

huesinomics - have u been to an a-dam icmag cup?
have any of the co-growers been?

It would be awesome. No question one of those guys who knows and cares stomps my ass. Too many compromises for volume

Not a cc n the dam.
But I was at the OVERGROW Cup in 2003 held by gypsy at the seeds direct shop.

I wasn't able to get any of my own gro entered. But I was very lucky to meet a lot of incredible growers and genuine folks.

I spent most of the time hanging w Barge(thrichrome farmer-OG) a photographer for Cannabis culture. He was all about the HAZE! Wich I found interesting, as I had been all about the indica. Very typical 20somthing attitude, now I get it! n love sativa through n through. But he was on a full out haze super serch. You jst got that feeling he was a man on a mision! He led bike tours to his fav coffee shops and hung w us telling stories of doing nothing but struing bubble hash for Breader Steve in Switzerland. Processing whole plants for analysis in his huge breeding project. Neet stuff!

Got to chat w Old pink,Bog,Soma,Bongguru,Gypsy and many fine folk.

Think it was the next year OG went down.
Thankfully Gypsy and Op picked up the pices and kept our community going!
I absolutely love ICmag and would love to get back for a ic cup!

I think we have the best folks on the net.
Big ups respect and happy growing.

No, I'm just curious. I have heard of doing that to get them to show their sex. I've never heard of any one doing it with that young of plants. Do you see any drag/lag on the plants from sexing them this way?

It has taken 9 days, since introduction to 12/12, for my seedlings to start showing sex.

I've got Grapefruit x Blueberry from Chimera and G13 Diesel x Geisha confirmed.

I may be taking a break from next month's competition because of all of this. The judges are given a couple of grams each then the rest is put out for the VIP ticket holders to sample and judge for the peoples choice all weekend...at least that was the Harvest Fest scenario...I doubt there was any left...except for whoever stole my NYCD from the table. Go back and watch the videos.
The guy I normally talk to flaked out right after Thanksgiving so I have been trying to get ahold of one of the organizers, as yet he hasn't gotten in touch with me. After talking with a guy at Mary Jane's I REALLY want to talk with the Gal who owns it but she is hard to find except after meetings on Wednesdays. According to him you must submit 2 strains to get one VIP ticket. That is 100g of high end bud and $100 cash to get a ticket that costs $100...50 grams is almost 1 3/4 oz, at current dispensary pricing that means about $800-$900 worth (remember times 2 so 3.5oz).

Now while I do agree with raising the entry fee to cover the lab costs (they are trying to raise money for charity not loose it) this increase of product needs to be rethought out. Like some-one else said, What about the micro growers. Many of them only get about 75-100grams per plant (closet growers even less) so 50g would be beyond many of their capabilities. I do not grow much more than what I need for my own use, so this would probably kill my ability to give some people the bud they need. I don't want to be greedy chasing an award I might never see and have it hurt those who count on my leavings. I really wish they would use classes of growers. Those who have the dispensaries and can sell it have MUCH larger quantities (of usually MUCH lesser quality) and can thus afford to throw away that amount chasing advertising. The self grower and other small time grows just can't take a hit like this...we can't sell it to make up the difference. I really think they need to reduce the amount back to the 30g it was before at least for the small growers.
I wonder if any of them will hear this from others...BIG HINT!

I might still get one strain in because of what happened with mine getting stolen in October But even with that I am seriously thinking it is best to protest with avoidance??? I don't know what I am doing yet.

Well said. I think the weight for the small grower classification should be 27g so that A64 personal growers like me can be street legal transporting to the event. Regardless of the situation, I won't leave the house w/ more than that. It's a chance I don't need to take. I'll admit to being tempted while delivering Christmas presents.

It would get weird if I had to move. Unless the house burns down, that won't happen, and if it did I probably wouldn't have a stash anyway.
