Howdy Dave, fantastic shots beautiful color and all! Had to comment!Cheers..B

Thanks for taking the time to chime in Buddler. Glad you like them! More due on the way.

Ooo Thanks for the shot of the Thunk. Just seeing yours makes me want to pull mine out of the freezer so badly. Sam's HazeSkunk is outstanding, and I bet his Thunk is just as good if not better.

Your even growing it in a small container for an extra challenge too!

How far into flowering is she?

Nice work Dave! Awesome thread. :tiphat:

Thanks buddy. I hope to keep the hits coming for a long time!

Oh, and Happy Turkey day to everyone! Hope you have a great day with family and friends, and that none drive you batshit crazy with arguments..

16 ounce cup, lol.

Thinking that thunk flipped mid september, so she's at
75 days, give or take, bent over like that she's 21 inches long.

I'll think about chopping around 110 days.

The long cured buds are sublime, it's why i keep her around,
despite the long flower time.

Now thats a challenge. 16 oz cup, nearly 4 month flowering time..Can't imagine alot of people would take up that one, so bravo to ya.

110 Days sounds pretty reasonable. The HazeSkunks typically would take around 120 days flowering, so its nice that the Thunk isn't too far off.

I hope you'll share some pics of the finished buds here when the day comes.

Some more Purple

Some more Purple

I wanted to share some shots of purple plants and purple buds tonight. I had meant to include this DP F2 last update, but I forgot.

This pretty lady was a DP F2 that recently was harvested after around 4 months of flowering. Incredibly rich purple color in her fan leaves with just a thin strip of green left to accentuate the purple. I love it! The buds didn't come anywhere close to that color of purple though. A lighter shade of purple than what other Durbans have shown me. Id like a plant that has deep purple leaves like this one along with the buds being the same. Ill just have to dig through more and more seeds and see what comes out of them.

picture.php

Here we have an Ace Tropical Mix from 2012. I ended up with 3 females only, with lots of boys in the mix. Didn't keep any boys, and the females are just getting one run only. This is probably my fav from looks alone. She's got the classic foxtails along with an intense purple to boot. The top has gotten so heavy with foxtails, its fallen over.

As purple as she looks on top, when flipped over, the foxtails underneath where they dont get any light are a much lighter shade of purple. Like its watered-down. Need to do a better job of staking plants up next time.

The foxtails are never ending...Still fresh white pistils popping up as calyxes stack on top of each other endlessly. Im not sure when she'll be ready. Flowering for at least 100 days, but should be ready 'soon' I think.

As pleased as I am with her bud formation, her terp profile is very lacking. No real stank to her or her sisters. Very mild and generic in smell department. They got nothing on Shit, or Durban Poison next to them. She's covered in resin glands though, and Ill be hoping for a quality smoke out of it.

Nice score on the Ace mix I have some somewhere I think. I have been purving on my small grow and all the signs are for a good harvest.
I have been reducing feed strengths for hopefully a harvest in 4 weeks as I will be away fishing over Christmas if not they will be on the blumat drippers for 2 weeks until i come back after New Year.
This is the part I hate waiting for the end and timing it right.

I had sat on them for almost 5 years, so I figured I may as well get on them. If you get around to running em, I hope you end up with lots of girls.

Good luck on the upcoming harvest. A harvest near Xmas is always extra special. What is being harvested btw? Something special I imagine.

Thats terrible news about the hubby hurting himself. I hope he will be able to make a 'swift' recovery. We men can be so careless with ourselves at times..or all the time really. I hope you're giving him shit while taking care of him

Its great to hear my methods have been helpful to your garden. Its taken many years of mistakes and screw ups in my garden to get to this point. Im glad Ive helped you avoid some of the same pitfalls. Now if I could only stick to my methods 100% of the time.
Sometimes I find myself regressing to the mean..What I like to call getting lazy. Dont let the lazy bug bite you.

I learned the pulse watering method from a former member here named Spurr. He rubbed alot of people the wrong way, but he was a wealth of information, and I learned alot from him while he was here.

That pulse method of watering alone will show a huge difference in gardens. Once you start to see those white fuzzy roots all over the rootball, you'll know you're watering correctly.

Got any pics of those seedlings to share with us here?

Oh, yeah, he gets plenty of shit!

Ok, since you twisted my arm...just a couple of shots...these are the Ace seeds Early Bubba Hash high CBD plants I'm growing for my daughter....(that little single over to the side with the 'dome' on it is Mama's tho - Ace Panama x Malawi...planted her yesterday so expect to see her up tomorrow/Monday)

Look at the trunks on those little trees! I just can't believe how sturdy they are!

And these next two, I blame on YOU, Dave! :D I transplanted the larger 2 out of single cells 6 days ago - LOOK AT THE ROOTS ALREADY!!

picture.php

Those plants, when planted, were seated more than half way up that container - I thought I had PLENTY of room for at least a couple weeks or so for roots to grow and expand and fill that container up while waiting for the other 2 to catch up.

The two smaller ones are about 6 days behind the other two - I had planted some Nirvana Nebula CBD seeds and they turned out to be duds, not one single one popped. All planted/nurtured exactly like the Ace seeds. So, I just popped 2 more EBH instead and we were off to the races...

And they already are started to put out the most delicious aroma. :)

You rock, Dave!

And those pictures of your purple ladies are amazing...what beautiful plants...must almost hurt to cut them down....

Hi my friend I have been tied to the house until Christmas when I will be fishing in nirvana.
I have a small grow of Panama, Panama x Honduras, Golden Tiger and Malawi x Ethiopian all from Ace, nearing harvest either before Christmas or when I return from fishing after the New Year.
I should get a couple of cobs from each plant so thats enough to do me

Wow, I am impressed by those seedlings. They look amazing! Better than my latest batch of plants! I can tell you're doing a great job at taking care of them. The top of your soil looks great. It looks like you've adapted to pulse watering really well. Looks like you've got it figured out but another tip is to avoid watering till container capacity. If anyone is doing that, or watering until they get run-off, you are over-watering.

Those seedlings are gonna really take off before too long with all those white fuzzy roots growing down there. If you have some small tight fitting saucers you can put underneath, you'll get crazy long roots growing out of the bottom just as long as there is enough humidity, hence tight fitting. They'll also be pristine white and fuzzy as Fozzie the Bear.

Hope the Ace turn out to be something great. The panama x malawi and Early Bubba sounds like a treat!

I used to get a lil sad over cutting down plants long ago when I first began growing, but now I look at it as another opportunity to put something new in its place. The end of one adventure, and the beginning of another.

Im glad you enjoyed them Joe Death. The few Hybrid Durban Thai Ive grown out so far all went purple. The purple color from the DP is definitely a dominant trait so far in the few Ive grown out, but eventually Ill get to run a larger number of the hybrids and I expect to see some green plants popping up, but I definitely prefer the purples.

Flowering time is around 100-120 Days. There are probably some 3 month plants to be found though.

Hope your Durban cut turns out to be something good. Is it the classic green, or maybe some purple in it too?

Thanks for sharing some of your beauties Tang. They look outstanding. All that fine Ace gear just waiting to be harvested..Need an extra pair of hands :).

Someone needs to open up a Charity, "Marijuana for the less Fortunate" Tang can donate all his extra cobs to the charity hehe.

Hi Dave, good to know the purple shows up regularly. I too like a little color to my buds, but am not very choosey.
As far as I know the cutting I'm getting is the Sandy Weinstein Durban Poison from the 80's. I dont know too much about it other than it is a very fast finisher, 50-60 days flowering time. It is definitly green but may hold some purple genes waiting to be unlocked. Time will tell as I plan to do some crosses with it of my own, will hopefully bring down the flowering times of some long flowering sativas.
Its got a classic Durban taste I'm told with a complex anise flavor. I'm pretty excited to be able to try it to say the least.

Thank you so much for the kudos, Dave. It means a lot coming from a grower like you. Just so you know, I've sorta-kinda adopted you as a mentor. :D You don't have to do anything, just sit there (and look pretty?) and keep pouring the knowledge out like you do on a regular basis. I have a 'Dave' section of my grow notebook that is pretty much a play-by-play of what you say and do in your threads. heh. I follow those notes pretty religiously, and so far, it is the healthiest, most vibrant looking grow I've had - indoors or out!

I weigh the plants before and after I feed them, and keep a log of how much I give them and how much they use daily. I've only had run-off once (when I forgot to weigh before diving into watering), and was really aggravated with myself about that - " Bad Maven, NOT what Dave would do!" I have a 20ml syringe, with a 60 on the way - that I use for every watering.

Here are two more collages for you, comparing the last pics to today. I was in a hurry so sorry they aren't the best. I up-potted yesterday from those little quart pots to gallon pots. I wish to hell I'd thought to take pictures of those roots, holy hell they were amazing! The two larger plants were so ridiculous that I went ahead and up-potted the two smaller ones as well, and their roots looked the same. I've never seen roots like this before. The difference that Root Shield makes is crazy.

In the 12/2 images, they are in little quart pots sitting up on a platform that is raised up even with that humidifier in the background of the 12/11 pictures. In the 12/11 images, they are in gallon pots sitting on the floor in front of the humidifier...

Thanks again, Dave!

Peace
Maven!

50-60 Days!?!?! Thats crazy fast. The only plant Ive ever had finish that quickly was a Bag seed years ago that smelled like Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum. Wish I had kept it because I really dig that terp profile.

I hope it has that strong anise smell/flavor. Once you experience it, you'll be hooked for life!

Im always glad to help out Maven. It sounds like you take my advice more than I do myself hehe. Im gonna have to step up my game. I can't let my 'apprentice' out do me.

I like your technique of weighing before and after watering. I may just try that out on my latest batch of Durban Poison( I started 30 more seeds!)

I recommend buying plenty of disposable syringes. What Ive noticed with mine is that over time the 'plunger' becomes harder to press in and pull out. It can be fixed temporarily by coating the rubber part of the plunger with something slick, but very quickly it returns to the old way of being hard to push/pull. Not cool if you have any arthritis in your hands.

Im glad the root shield is paying off. Its really something to see those white fuzzy roots in such good health. Stay vigilant with the watering because all it takes is one over-watering to undue all the hard work.

Im glad you're staying away from run-off. When I started growing, the 'common knowledge' was that you want 10% run-off whenever you water, but through my own experience I determined that was a LIE!

picture.php

Its a waste of water/nutrients, damages the roots, and only should be done in emergencies when your media EC levels are extremely high. Even then when media EC levels are high, there are other options than watering to run-off/leaching. Move the plant closer to the light, water only-no feed, reduce cooling so it gets warmer, which leads to increased transpiration, resulting in more nutrients being sucked up, depleting the media EC without having to damage roots.

Your lil ones are growing up so quickly. At this rate they'll be large enough to flower in a month. Keep them healthy deep into flower like they are now, and you'll be rewarded with some really nice buds in the end.
