Durban x Thai Halfsister Update

Durban x Thai Halfsister Update

Tonight's update will showcase the half-sister of the last lady we featured. I like to call her Lil Sister. This half involves Thai Stick G mom, who produces big, fat, long colas, but oddly enough this plant has very very delicate bud structure and doesn't produce the long spears like her mom, or half-sister. More golfball like buds. That came from the Durban Side of the cross.

Sadly the terp profile comes from the Thai Side of the cross. I much prefer the Durban P terp profile, or the hybrid profile that Big Sister produces. I love me some Thai, but I and most people Ive shared Thai with really dont enjoy the flavor or aroma long-term. Woody, Cedar, Menthol, Piney just isn't most peoples cup of tea. They like that pungent, sweet, fruity/berry type of terp profile. Well so do I, which is why I love my big sister and keeping her for as long as I can keep her alive.

Id say this lady is close to 80 Days flowering. I lose track so often of exactly how many days. I just harvest by the look of the buds, and inspection of closeup photos of the resin glands now.

This lady isn't quite ready yet, but getting closer every day. She leans towards the Thai side when it comes to flowering for sure. Im expecting a 110 Day or close to it flowering cycle at this point. After this cycle, it'll be her last time. She doesn't suit my ideal tastes. Just more room in the future for other Durban x Thai plants.

Lets begin with a photo of her back on 9/13 at around a Month into flowering.

Now

Lots of fan leaves still very healthy and green. No nutrient deficiencies at all!

This is an upper fan leaf that is beginning to turn purple. She will purple slowly from top down. Even the buds are starting to show a lil purp.

Wow! I'm loving those foxtail buds! It just looks so delicious!

Thanks Bootz! They're as pretty as they are delicate. Can't wait to share some photos of the buds dried and cured down the line for you all.

Switching things up for now, were going back to straight Durban Poison. I have two clones of my original DP-D, and Ive decided its time to move one of them into the flowering room. She was already in a state of semi-flowering, even though she's been in the veg tent for 1.5 months or so. Maybe its being kept in a small container(half gallon) that is encouraging the semi-flowering.

Or maybe its the light schedule, I have them under 16-8. None of the Golden Diesels are flowering like this DP, and the Shits are beginning to reveg out of their semi-flowering stage they were in while producing seeds.

She's stayed quite compact in there even closely surrounded by other plants. Maybe a lil too compact though. I hope she'll stretch out a bit in flowering, so more light can get to the lower fan leaves. Fan leaves...not bud sites. Worry more about getting light to your fan leaves, and not the bud sites.

I haven't really had to give this girl a whole lot of attention. Feedings at 350PPM maximum along with 5grams of osmocote in the media has kept her very healthy and green. Keeping her out of the lights direct footprint has also helped keep her green and healthy.

Im gonna snap some pics of the DurbanxShits tonight and try to get them uploaded. The hybrids are progressing along very nice after the initial problems. Much better than the batch of DP that are still struggling.

Finished Buds!

Finished Buds!

Its been around 8 or 9 days since I cut down the DurbanxThai(A) Hybrid. She's all trimmed up, and awaiting de-seeding. She's carrying offspring of the lone Golden Diesel male I had. I hadn't planned on these seeds, but now Ive got my own 4 way Sativa hybrid made up using F1 parents. Should be some nice variety in those seeds if I get a chance to explore them. Knowing me Ill start 10 up just to see whats there. Im too curious not too.

Ive only harvested the upper spears, and left the lowers to go for another 2 weeks before the final harvest of her. Im pretty happy with how these buds came out. I think you will be too! Just wait till I get some of the closeups uploaded.

Beautiful shots, Dave, and beautiful plants!

Back on the 25th of October, the husband had a real bad fall off the steps of our deck and broke the femur in his left hip - the same hip he had replaced just 10 months before *sigh* SO, I have been up to my ears in it; this is the first time I've really been able to just sit a minute and read/catch up.

All of that, just to lead into a BIG THANK YOU, again, to you, Dave, for sharing so much of your plant care methods on here. Last week I finally managed to get that medical grow going for my daughter, and following a lot of your suggestions and methods, I can see my 'game' has already been upped a LOT where getting seedlings off to a good start is concerned.

I always thought I did pretty well, really, but MAN, am I seeing a difference - especially using your 'pulse watering' method! :) As most do, I tend to overwater, even when I think I am being soooooo careful. This has completely alleviated that problem for me.

And the consistency of my soil is even better than ever before - like rich chocolate cake that crumbles just beautifully. I never tried the pro-mix hp/bx with mycorrhizae/biofungicide OR the root shield before I read your thread, and I just love it all - great additions to the arsenal. The little seedlings are so happy. So, again, thanks for all the sharing.

Off to take care of the man...no rest for the wife of the wicked...see y'all on the flip side

Peace

Seriously though, glad you enjoyed the pics pal. Growing these long flowering sativas really teaches a grower patience and helps you reach the proper harvest date.

Thats terrible news about the hubby hurting himself. I hope he will be able to make a 'swift' recovery. We men can be so careless with ourselves at times..or all the time really. I hope you're giving him shit while taking care of him

Its great to hear my methods have been helpful to your garden. Its taken many years of mistakes and screw ups in my garden to get to this point. Im glad Ive helped you avoid some of the same pitfalls. Now if I could only stick to my methods 100% of the time.
Sometimes I find myself regressing to the mean..What I like to call getting lazy. Dont let the lazy bug bite you.

I learned the pulse watering method from a former member here named Spurr. He rubbed alot of people the wrong way, but he was a wealth of information, and I learned alot from him while he was here.

That pulse method of watering alone will show a huge difference in gardens. Once you start to see those white fuzzy roots all over the rootball, you'll know you're watering correctly.

Got any pics of those seedlings to share with us here?

Hey Dave, dropped those testers in some water last night and started a thread. Drop by and check it out. I always loved the title of this thread so...

Click here for Afropip's Durban Poison Repro Tester, or don't. I don't care.

Wow, I had a good laugh when I read your thread title. I love it! I hope others have gotten a good laugh out of my thread title too.

Ill be popping into that thread to check it out. I look forward to seeing what you are able to do with the seeds. Ive no doubt you'll find something that suits your needs.

Looks like I missed out on these beauties...Any chance you are looking for any more testers? Would be forever greatful.

You're too late to the party Joe Death, but maybe someday we'll be doing some testers for Durban Hybrids in the future. The DurbanxThai is a main goal/project for me, but DurbanxSkunk(Shit) is another Hybrid I want to explore too. Maybe you'll get a chance to test them in the future.

Is the real deal Durban Poison available anywhere or anything close to it?

Tangs already covered it for ya, but you should be pretty content with Aces/CBG offerings.

Good job!
Forgive me the delay but now I'm there, I follow !!

Thanks for joining us in here Green. Were glad to have ya! I hope you'll enjoy the pics and pick up something to help you in your garden from here.

Woody cedar menthol piney wow i would really enjoy that

Oh its something different alright. I got Thai Stick G into someones hand tonight who has never enjoyed Thai before, and the first thing they remarked on was the different smell. Different than any other weed they've ever had. TSG is all Ive got to smoke atm, so Im getting reacquainted with that flavor/terp profile atm. Wish I could share it with ya!
