Over X-Mas I gave out some Durban x Thai hybrid buds(2nd lady harvested aka Sea Serpent lady that filled the 1.1 gallon tub 2oz. total) as gifts, and Ive gotten some feedback on it.

The feedback has ranged from: it made me hallucinate(lightweight), to the best Ive ever had(senior smoker), super sticky, oh my god amazing. Flavor and taste were given high marks too. The inexperienced smoker had no idea pot could smell/taste like anything other than 'pot'. There's no generic smell/taste in these buds. Intense complicated terp profiles from these ladies provide a real treat to your nose and tongue. All done with synthetic nutrients. Osmocote Plus, and Dyna Gro Grow work wonders together.

Should anyone want to go full synth with only those two nutrients, Id recommend using only 6grams/ gallon of media with the osmocote, and using WSF to cover the rest of your feeding. Using WSF to provide the rest of your nutrition allows you to increase/decrease quickly and easyily allowing you to match what the plant needs. Make sure to get that suction lysimeter and a high quality EC meter. My bluelab continues to work amazing after nearly 7 years of owning one. And Ive really abused it over the years, and she still works after all the torture inflicted by me.

There are multiple options for osmocote Plus, so do some research before settling in on one. 3-4 month formula for faster flowering plants, and 5-6 month for pure sats, or anything that is getting an extended veg. 15-9-12 5-6 month formula is what I use.

Day 15 Seedling Update

Day 15 Seedling Update

Things are progressing nicely for these plants, so much so Ive realized I can begin the culling at Day 14 in the future. After two weeks, It was clear 5 plants stood out among the rest. Thats 30%, with the other 70% getting the axe. I simply uprooted them from their container, shook off the soil from the roots, and ripped em in half. I placed the container back onto the cap-mat. I believe it best if the mat stays out of the light and covered by containers, so I dont experience unnecessary evaporation.

Ive also got roots from plants that are growing underneath containers, and Id rather they stay underneath containers where the humid moist environment will allow them to continue growing. We'll see how far those runners can get.

Of the remaining 5, 4 are very close in growth, with the 5th just a bit behind. All of them are beginning to grow side shoot at this point, while the culled ones had yet to do so.

Once we get to day 21, and much observation of the plants, another culling will occur. If Im sticking to my 10% rule, Ill have to eliminate down to 2 plants. Should there be more than 2 that are worthy, Ill just have to continue veg'ing them until they sex. Im more interested in finding females than males at this point.

I want to run X amount of seeds from the Durban Male x GN Thai female pairings that I made. Ive got 3 pairings to test out and see which one is the best. Once Ive figured that out, I can really get into running lots of seeds towards a F2 generation and beyond.

Lets get to some pics now. Still stuck using crappy camera phone, but I should have my new camera in about a week.

Reminder of what they looked like at Day 11.

Long Overdue Update Time

Long Overdue Update Time

As per the course with me, its been a few weeks since my last update. My apologies.

Lets see how much of It I can cover tonight without this post stretching a mile :).

First off, Ive enjoyed a couple hits of acid earlier tonight, so Im not sure how together this all may be, but we'll give it a go! Its just now beginning to hit me.

Im also enjoying some sweet sweet Durban Poison-I. Oh she is so tasty and exactly what I was looking for when it comes to the Anise taste and smell Durban Poison is often times known for. Only one out of 7 ladies I began with to have the profile I was looking for. Each puff of her tastes like sweet candy star anise/black licorice with a slight touch of grape. You'd reach for this jar just for taste and aroma alone. I wish I could share it with you all.

This lady made a few seeds with my fave male Durban Poison C. I ended up accidentally smoking one :(. I found another that very night to replace the one I ruined, and as I type this its right about to break the surface of the media! Im so happy to have a seedling of her to work with. I got very very few seeds when I tried to pollinate her this time. She was too late into flowering, but coughed up a precious few. Im hoping I can find at least a few more in the remaining buds.

This is getting harder, but Im gonna continue on. Music is soooo incredible right now. Getting hard to focus..

I finally got myself a new camera. Im happily playing with my Sony A6000, learning how to best utilize the Prime lens I bought to go with it. Got some Kenko extension tubes on the way to play with too. Soon Ill pick up a budget sony macro lens, and combined with the kenko extension tubes, I hope to get some nice pics to share. Got to find a good tripod now. Im really going down the rabbit hole on this one everyone!

I believe we last left off on the Afropip Durban Poison x Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick hybrid. Lets get back to them. Things progressed pretty well for the first two weeks on the capillary mats, but then problems began to arise. The bottom of the container was too water logged, leading my white fuzzy roots to become dingy and not as healthy. Roothairs drowned away.

The cap mats allowed me to have no need to hand water for the plants in the small starting containers, but after awhile you get a soggy bottom and plant health is affected. I began to see N deficiency pop up around this time and compensated by raising res levels to 300-325ppm DynaGro Grow 7-9-5. I saw an immediate improvement but the soggy bottom still needed to be addressed.

I since transplanted into 1 gallon containers for 4 select plants and began to only use the cap mats intermittently to water. When the plants need watering, they sit upon the cap met that is submersed in the reservoir set at 300-325ppm atm. Once Im satisfied with the water uptake by the good old fashioned lift method, I remove the plant from the cap mat.

Works much better this way. Its easy passive watering that requires only the effort of mixing the res solution as needed for the cap mats to absorb up and transfer to the bottom of the rootball and upwards through simple capillary action. Remove from the mat when watered to your desire.

Im considering just cutting the cap-mat into strips and inserting it into the bottom of the rootball and seeing how that performs. Good ole fashioned wick method. Ive always wanted to try it out, but never gave it a go before. If successful, that one piece of cap mat I get with each burpee seed starting kit , could be stretched out to service many plants for a cheaper cost ultimately.

Ill keep everyone updated on that, but so far I highly recommend these kits for starting off lots of seeds, small cuttings, and plants up to 1 gallon containers. 2 and 3 gallon containers are next on the journey. Would be very useful for anyone competing in the yogurt cup challenges *wink wink*

Back again....I was lost for awhile, but Im gonna continue this post onward.

Aww fuck it. Im out. Ill be updating soon everyone. Thanks for staying tuned. More updates and pics soon, but im checking out. I can't continue..Im too far gone Im buggin out!

Best post ever
Tangwena

Well the acid has finally worn off, and Im back to continue my update. I had a great time that night. I put on some Low End Theory by Tribe Called Quest, and put on some Electric Sheep on youtube muted so I could enjoy my tunes while watching the crazy fractals morph into different images repeatedly.

As I was watching the fractal animation, I realized I was looking at eternity. Forever changing before my very eyes, with no end in sight. By the time my mind processed a glimpse of eternity, it had shifted, morphed into something else. Forever and always my mind trying to see the edge of eternity only to realize Im looking at the shadows of the past.

Eventually I laid down to try and sleep, but Im pretty sure I laid awake tripping for the rest of the night with a constant stream of thoughts flowing through my head. I 'woke' up in the morning still feeling it and felt great for the rest of the day.

I fell short of many things I need to update on in that post, which Ill try to get to very soon, but we all know Im very sporadic in my updates. I need to improve upon that for sure.

I should probably dip into the jars of Thai and help get myself focused for some future updates. This Durban P x Gn Thai puts me in a dreamy, hazey type of high that isn't conducive to updates.

Aaaahhh get out of my head man. I have an empty yogurt container sitting on the cap mat now.

Lol, the cats out of the bag ReikoX. I considered doing a yogurt cup & mat, but I would end up missing updates and get myself DQ'd. Heh. Be careful not to get soggy bottom from being on the mat too long. Good luck with your run.

Hermoso hilo! Con tu permiso tomo asiento.

Saludos.

Bienvenido al hilo. Gracias por unirte. Gracias por las buenas vibraciones.
:yeahthats
Have a great time tonight, and thanks for the update!

Oh it was a great time. I wish I had a more consistent source of it, but its probably for the best. Im prone to over indulging in my vices.

Good shit Dave love reading your thread, fine looking seedlings.Bud

Thanks a bunch Buddler. Im glad to know others enjoy the thread so much. It helps me continue on! I could use some support right now..i got into some more acid tonight. I thought the last stuff was strong, this is rocking me right now. Anyone want to volunteer to help me through the night? Ill share all my goodies with you hehe..

Im so glad I did not take a 3rd hit of this stuff. Im dipping into some Durban P x GN Thai atm to help take the edge off. Although Im pretty sure its too little, too late!

Those lil ones are long past seedling stage now. They've grown up quite a bit since we last saw. Working on a post getting us all up to date on the Hybrid offspring. Stay tuned!

Durban x Thai Photo Update

Durban x Thai Photo Update

We've not seen these plants for awhile, so lets get reacquainted with them shall we?

The last time we saw them, I was separating the most vigorous seedlings from the chaff. I let a few cast-offs go a few more weeks to see how well they'd grow in the small containers without a transplant. Performed pretty well w/ cap-mat res level at 325PPM Dynagro Grow 7-9-5. It pained me to cut them down at that stage of growth. Its so much easier to cull a seedling.

After the culling I was left with 4 plants that continued to grow fast and vigorous, albeit quite stretchy in the 1 gallon plastic containers. You'll see what Im talking about when I take pics next of them.

Of the remaining 4, the tallest one is my ideal candidate from this batch of seeds to keep, and just happens to be a girl if my eyes dont deceive me. She has the best lateral branching among the 4, and will really branch out when given more media volume.

Still a few days away from fully sexing all 4 plants. So far 2 confirmed males. I need to get a few pics of them to share before they get the axe.

The plants were around 3.5 weeks old at this point. Quite chlorotic at this stage, and desperately in need of N. Soggy bottom didn't help either.

One week post transplant, so around a month old I believe. If you're plants are ever ill looking, a transplant into fresh media and a good feeding will make your lil ones much happier and healthier. Its literally my fall back plan and rarely fails.

Day 40 From Seed Durban/Thai Photo Update

Day 40 From Seed Durban/Thai Photo Update

These pics were taken on the 30th of January, so a little old. The first set of pics are of the two males. Ive kept them around to this point to see how they'd progress. Beautiful looking plants, but there's no room for these boys in my garden. I want fine ladies only.

They're still around at this moment, but will soon be culled. Pics to remember them by.

Day 40 From Seed Durban/Thai Hybrid Females

Day 40 From Seed Durban/Thai Hybrid Females

Here are the two females I ended up with at the end. We started with 18 seeds and discarded down to these two remaining plants. Even having selected the two best females, one still stands tall above the other. Large, lush green fan leaves and better lateral branching than her sis, and better than the boys. Im pretty pleased to end up with her.

It'll be awhile before we get to see these two flowering as I need to sculpt their form before flowering, but expect updates as they fill out.

Shit Haze Reveg Update

Shit Haze Reveg Update

Hey Gang, Im back with another random update of mine :) Im gonna start off by sharing some pics of ShitHaze that I revegged. She began the process extremely fast. In under a month she had many shoots full of normal vegetative leaves growing out of her old buds. Its the Haze to thank for the fast reveg, and to be more precise, its the Thai in the Haze that leads to it. The GN Thai stick can cloned, or air-layered at 100+ days into flowering, and it'll reveg in under a month typically, but this update isn't about the Thai. That'll come soon..

I had 4 ladies to choose from last time. I believe one was eliminated for too prevalent of intersex tendencies, leaving me 3 to choose from. All 3 ended up being excellent quality smoke with an incredible taste for those lucky enough to enjoy it. I wish I had some left now to enjoy, but some Durban Poison-F will easily suffice.

I dont recall which of 3 three I selected. Not a huge difference among the three. Rather uniform except for smell/taste. You know after re-reading this, I realize I dont have any pics of the plant during the reveg process uploaded. Maybe I have some stashed away in my camera somewhere.

These flowering shots will have to do for us. I dont know how long she has been flowering for exactly, but its close to a month. These ShitHaze need 100-110 days to reach their peak. Maybe even a little longer. Judging by looks alone were pretty far off from Harvest time. Our patience will be rewarded.

She's all by herself under the 600w MH Ushio bulb, which is something Im glad to finally do. Ive always managed to cram alot of plants under lights, and that causes excessive stretching of them by triggering Shade Avoidance Response/Syndrome. This one lady by herself hasn't had to compete with others for light, and has stayed short and compact with lots of even tops. Now If I can only get them to fill out like her last run.

Right now PPM is 350 in the media, and has been as low as 210, but she only showed mild N deficiency while progressing into flower, but buds have developed to my liking thus far. Id rather it be like this, than over do it out of the gate and be scrambling to lower PPM.

Sidenote: If I had the plant closer to the light source with a ppm that low, I would be experiencing a more severe N deficiency, and possible yellowing of upper canopy if light is too close. Ive opted to keep the plant 3 feet away minimum from the light source. I do not want to see my canopy fading early in flowering. So far the upper canopy is still healthy and green and leaf temps are no higher than 75F/24C even with a low fertility PPM.

Ive been feeding her just about every other night, sometimes back to back nights of feed at 420-470PPM to slowly raise the fertility levels. After a weeks worth of hand feedings and the res being at 450PPM, fertilty levels still remain very low. 350ppm in the media as of tonight before being hand-feeding at 470ppm. I started at around 300ppm in feeding and slowly worked my way up over the last week or two. Can't keep up with her feeding needs at this point.

She's a nutrient hog. With 75% skunk in her she can tolerate high EC levels, and lots of feedings. Many more to go before the finish line.

Time to get some pics of her up now.

Just a few Durban ladies

Just a few Durban ladies

I took these sometime back, but never managed to upload them until now. I think now would be a good time to share them. These are 3 different Afropip Durban Poison ladies.

Durban Poison D is the darkest purple out of all of them. People go nuts when they see the finished buds. Smells and tastes like sweet berries. Small buds is the downside this run, but still produced nice lil nugs perfect for sticking whole into my bowls. Ive got two clones of her vegging under my T5's atm, trying to get as many tops as I can before flowering. The clones are super compact with loads of branches/tops atm, but not as even canopy as Id like. Still some training to do before flowering. Ill get some pics up of those clone soon I hope.

She was a real bitch to reveg. Took two months after the flowering clone had rooted just to get vegetative growth from her. Even now with all the normal veg growth up top, the old flowering growth at the bottom continue to 'bud'. Mostly healthy, sticky, and smelly still. Must get a pic of that for everyone.

Her fan leaves didn't turn as purple as E or F, but her buds ended up being darker than E or F, although E & F both developed deep rich purple hues in their fan leaves, their buds didn't quite match the leaves.

picture.php

Next up is DP-E. Her buds were very sativa like. Loose buds but the calyxes are large and covered in glistening resin glands. She's practically the twin of DP-F. Same type of bud structure, but F did develop some longer spears.

She tastes nothing like sweet berries. More of a spice/perfume taste and smell to her. Not at all unappealing, but not my favorite terp profile of the 3 I ended up with.

picture.php

picture.php

Last up is DP-F, the twin sister of E. Taste, smell, and high are all pretty much the same compared to E. Probably yielded a little better thanks to the longer spears.

Durban Poison I offspring Update

Durban Poison I offspring Update

Awhile back I mentioned starting a seed from Durban Poison I, after smoking the first viable seed I had managed to find from her buds. :( I found a 3rd unviable seed when I made some dry sift with some left over buds. It passed the pinch test, but after an overnight soak it squished flat afterwards, with a shriveled up core.

So I was down to my last seed from this Mom, and was praying for everything to go smoothly. All started great as the head broke the surface, shed its shell, and lo and behold we were presented with a trifoliate/polyploidy seedling. Cool, sweet. A few days go by, and I begin to worry as I dont see any true leaves growing from the center. Nothing was there in the center except a really tiny tiny growth that you may confuse for a set of leaves just beginning.

A few more days pass, and now what I thought was growth occurring had shriveled up brown. Practically nothing there now. Im heart broken and distraught. My last seed, my last hope dashed. Now Im stuck with a seedling with 3 cotyledons, and no true leaves. No chance of getting anything else out of the plant now. Throw it away and mourn my losses right? Well, Im a stubborn fart and decide I will keep the seedling around. Another week goes by and the cotyledons are still green, but no growth from the center at all. Time to cut my losses now for sure. Why are you waiting? Kill it already! Put it out of its misery for piss sake!

Hmm something looks odd again in the center. I mean its already odd not having any true leaves to begin, but there's something there. Something that wasn't there a week ago. It looks like a shapeless growth beginning to occur from the center. Its green, growing I think, but no leaves, or anything one would recognize as the beginning of a plant. Just a growing mass. A few more days go by, and this mass continues to grow upwards from the center of the plant. Its as if there is a 'stalk' growing straight up. A really really tiny one. No leaves growing from it yet, but its definitely getting taller reach day.

After another 3-5 days, it happens! A leaf, a clearly identifiable leaf is growing from this weird mass. Wait, its not one leaf, its 3! We finally have the beginning of a seedling growing after close to 3 weeks of waiting after it broke the surface.

Its a miracle! :woohoo:  The plant gods have given me a precious seedling to care for. To nurture into something amazing to benefit from in the future. She's growing nice and healthy right now with a few nodes of growth since these pics were taken. Ill follow up with her growth often, as she is replacing DP-I.

Sigh..She's gone. Dead. Did not survive the reveg process. Afropip Durban Poison are extremely hard to reveg a second time. I got lazy and didn't take clones before flowering thinking I could reveg no problem. I couldn't have been more wrong. I fucked up bad. Not all plants can reveg easily like the Thai. Painful lesson to learn, and I shouldn't take risk with these few ladies I have.

Thankfully, Ive got a seedling from her to replace her with. Ill be hoping for a girl, but a boy would be a welcome addition to the garden if he has the Star Anise/Licorice/grape aroma Im so fond of.

The one that nearly wasn't.

picture.php

Next update will be Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick A. You all haven't gotten to see much of her lately, but she just completed another flowering cycle. Some beautiful delicate buds I think all of you will appreciate. Stay tuned!

This post brought to you by Durban Poison, and some Durban/Thai.
