Continued.

Continued.

Note how the fan leaves are much healthier further away from the light. I'd like the upper leaves to look like that at this point next run.

How about a bit of Durban? This is the intersex female who knocked up TSA giving us these sexy ladies. Easy to see where the purple comes from that I'm now seeing in the hybrid. Is she dark enough??? Hubba hubba...

Dave, these look amazing. Great work. Can't wait to see the end result. Will you be cobbing these?

I'm glad you like the cross onefinity. I've been well pleased with them too. I've got some recent pics I've snapped I need to share tonight. Got some updating to do with them now that were around 125 days in.

I'll be cobbing the lower buds while saving the primo tops for my special stash and a cob to compare. As much as I enjoy cobbed buds, nothing beats a well dried/cured bud if you want to taste those terps. Cobbed buds have a different taste in their own good way but I really do like smoking these spicy, piney, menthol Durban Thai hybrid buds right now.

What happened to your seeds? I must have missed something. I sympathize with you though. I'd rather someone steal all my buds than lose my seeds.

Durban Thai Hybrid update

Durban Thai Hybrid update

Day 125/126 methinks.

We're moving into the final stages of the flowering cycle for these 3 ladies. I already cut snow white down 4-6 days ago after seeing a few nanners. Took 4 months to see them, but she won't be getting a second run.

I've moved my sea serpent looking lady into the closet for a night of darkness. I'll harvest her upper half and attempt to reveg her. I'd like to see a 2nd run with her. She has the most appealing bud structure for most folks. Some foxtails for sure but big chunky calyxes stacked tightly on top of each other. Turned a gorgeous shade of purple at the end too.

The last lady is still in the flowering room getting a few more days till harvest. She's ready now but I like to stagger plants when I harvest. Helps keep humidity up in the closet without needing to get a humidifier in there. Not alot of purple in her foliage which Is kinda disappointing, but it did come thru in the buds looking at them now. The pic below is a week old or so.

Durban thai harvest update

Durban thai harvest update

Well the deed has been done. The next Durban Thai has been harvested at 18 weeks. At least the upper 2/3rds. The bottom half has been fed a 700ppm feeding and moved into the veg room under the h.o.t5 54w 6 bulb bank. She definitely deserves a second run. I hope I can kick her back into veg quickly and get her flowering again a 2nd time.

I snapped some pics of her I think you all will enjoy. Let me tell you that was one heavy top to hold up for pics. She is going to out weigh all 3 I believe.

Truly beautiful especially with the added color from the DP. holding my breath for an in depth test ha ha. The high should be something special with those parents.

Durban Thai snow white update

Durban Thai snow white update

The first lady is finally dry and trimmed up. She definitely did not yield much as the dried buds are just as delicate and airy as Thai Stick A. In fact, she takes mostly after Tsa. Even smells very strongly like her. A whole lot of pine, with touches of menthol and cedar. **Edit** Add spicy to the flavor profile.

The flavor takes a couple of seconds to register with your brain but once it does, it lingers on the tongue for 3-5 seconds.

I've got one small jar of buds stashed away to age 3 months before sampling/reporting.

Another jar to make a cob with, and one small jar to smoke now.

I'm sitting here enjoying some now after a hards day of work. It does a fine job of taking the edge off and putting me in a much better mood. The high is all in the head. Clear and up as one would expect from these ladies.

Don't pass out, you'll have to wait awhile for the report. It's going to be fun sampling these 3 ladies! I'm going to do alot of that for best results.

some nice looking sativa buds there. nice indeed

Glad you like em. Got to love a nice sativa spear. I think you'll really like the spear on the last lady to be harvested. We've not seen any pics lately but that's going to change very soon. Just wait.

Durban Thai Hybrid plant 2 update.

Durban Thai Hybrid plant 2 update.

Another one is in the books. My second Durban Thai lady is finished dried and trimmed up. She provided me an ample supply to enjoy. More than enough to cob and jar for the best of both worlds.

I've not weighed it out but I better do git soon before I smoke it all up. I'll weigh it out and report back with a number. From the pic alone she way out did her sis snow white, but snow has the stronger flavor by a mile. I do like the dreamy, gaze off into the distance, lost In your thoughts high I get from this chunkier sister. Exactly what I like after working all day.

This lady is being revegged right now In the veg room. I've been feeding at 600 ppm each watering to encourage the transition. I'd really love to run her a 2nd time and see what else I can coax from her.

She smells similar to snow white but more menthol, less pine and cedar. Anyone who gets to toke on her is in for a treat. She's gonna be my Xmas gift to a few ppl this year. I'll get feedback from them and see what they think.

Nuf words. Show me some pics. That's 1.1 gallon tupper ware container.

F1 Afropips Durban Poison C(m) x GN Thai Stick G(f) project start

F1 Afropips Durban Poison C(m) x GN Thai Stick G(f) project start

Ive finished caring for the plants tonight already, so Im going to try and recreate the post I lost right before I was about to submit. Lets get to whats going on now...

Its officially time to begin testing the Durban x Thai F1 hybrid seeds I made. This cross involved TSG who produced that massive 2ft+ long cola, and my only intersex free Durban Male. I dont know what he's going to bring to the cross, but we'll find out soon enough. Its going to be exciting digging into these seeds, and Ive got alot of seeds to play with. First count is around 1400 seeds, by weight, with 5-1qt mason jars, and a 1.1. gallon rubbermaid container full of seeded buds. Easily 5k seeds to explore.

Clearly as an indoor grower, Ill never be able to flower out 5k seeds, but Ive got a plan to test out just as many seeds, but only flowering the very select plants. Allow me to go further into detail.

I will start with 1k batches of seeds, starting 75-80 seeds at time, using Burpee Capillary Mats, which work amazing. Ill go into detail on those mats later. Using these small containers pictured, I should be able to squeeze 80 seedlings underneath my 6bulb t5 bank.

At the end of 3 weeks veg, I will cull all but the top 10% of plants. Only the most vigorous plants will be selected. Rapid leaf expansion is one trait that Im placing heavy emphasis on in the seedling stage. The sooner they deploy those leaves, and the larger they are, the faster they'll grow. Upon checking them tonight, Ive already spotted a few who excel in RLE, compared to their siblings. No surprise they're already a node perhaps 2 ahead of the smaller siblings, who have smaller leaves.

At the end of our 3 week mark, the top 10% will be moved to the upper t5 for further veg, and training, while the second batch of seeds moves into the old containers/rootballs.

Then the process will be repeated, selecting the top 10% of seedlings once more for further veg/training, and more seeds begun. This cycle will continue till I exhaust my first 1k seeds. By then I should have around 40-50 fast growing, vigorous ladies ready for flowering. The cream of the crop, with the ideal physical characteristics I want. If I run 3-4k seeds Im sure I can find some truly exceptional ladies out of 150-200 specimens. Out of those plants only the top 5% will be selected for the next generation.

With 1k seeds, and starting 75-80 seeds each time, its gonna take me around 3/4th of a year if I strictly adhere to a 3 week turn around for each cycle of seeds. I could get a 3rd t5 bank and speed the process up, but im not too excited to be growing upwards of 200 plants in my particular locale..

I expect to make speedy progress with these seeds anyways. Im sure itll pass in the blink of an eye after growing out these Pure Sats for 4-7 months for finished flowers.

Ill also be selecting some nice males along the way, as I do intend to make some f2 lines with the final females selected.

Going back to the burpee capillary mats now. They work amazing. Ive had these seedlings in these containers for 10 days now, and they've not had to be hand-watered a single time. Talk about maintenance-free. Well almost. I do need to keep the reservoirs filled with solution, but even when Ive had the res dry for a 24 hour period, there's no dry down as enough moisture is in the mat to meet the plants needs still. Easy and fool proof for the lazy gardener.

For the first week, I had the res at 100ppm, starting on day 7 I switched to 200ppm. On day 15, Ill be feeding at...Not sure. Ill evaluate the plants at that stage and determine if I should increase, decrease, or leave the feed level alone.

The containers are small enough I can sit 9 cells on each burpee seed starting kit. I had to compact the bottom inch of the media to ensure good contact between the future rootball and cap-mat. Just a bit of soil pushing out of the bottom holes in the container is enough to ensure the wicking action takes place.

Ive got some white fuzzy roots at the bottom of the containers right now, so Im feeling pretty good about the future of these things. I can't wait to try it on some larger plants and see how it works out.

Ive got some more pics of the seedlings a few days later to upload and share. Ill also snap some pics of them tonight.

tl;dr show me pics.

Day 2.

Day 8. Cells have been rotated, so dont expect plant placement to be the same position each time.

Day 11 Durban/Thai seedlings

Day 11 Durban/Thai seedlings

Its Day 11 and the seedlings are continuing to do great. The cotyledons are still green, and no stretching to be seen.

The one hiccup is that Im down a timer, so they've not even experienced the normal 16/8 schedule I use for veg. More like 11/13 so far. Timers are on their way, and Ill have that problem sorted out, and we should see some faster growth from these plants.

Ill keep this post short compared to my prior one. Im also sleepy too. G'night all.

I decided to get myself a nice X-Mas gift this year. Ive ordered a Sony A6000 mirrorless camera and a Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens. Ill be picking up some Krenko DG extension Tubes soon to help get some nice close-ups. Id like to get a top of the line Macro lens to go with it, but Sony ones are $1k+. They have a budget one at $250, which would probably do well enough when paired with the extension tubes. Something to mull over.

Ill be playing with the camera alot, so expect lots of pics to be coming in the near future.
