GN Thai Stick Cob Stick Style Update

GN Thai Stick Cob Stick Style Update

Well its been 3 weeks since GN Thai Stick E was made into cobs, and the unveiling is here!

I ran into some problems early on as I tried to sweat the cobs too long initially in the gladlock bags sitting atop my flowering reflectors. It was between 2-3 days and I had some white spots of mold forming on pieces of bud/cob that were more exposed and not properly wrapped up.

I said screw it, took em out of the bags, and sealed them right up in the vac-seal immediately. I knew the mold needed air to continue living, so I best seal it up now. Nearly 3 weeks time has gone by, and the seals have been broken, and the cobs all removed for inspection.

All of them had a nice strong fermented cure smell to them, and no white spores of mold to be seen. No mold to be seen at all. The green sticky buds have been compressed into beautiful, tacky, darkened cobs very moist to the touch. I was real worried I screwed these cobs up, but they came through better than the first time I cobbed thai buds, so ill chalk it up as a win.

I really like how the buds on their branches turned out. The one pictured was 4 different main tops tied together and cobbed. It really made cobbing alot easier than having lots of nugs that I needed to compress together to make into a cob-like shape. I dont have pics of two cobs made that way, but Ill try to load those up tonight.

Ive got plenty of pics to share, and things Id like to update on. Ill also reply to everyone's posts later on today. I need to get some updates out of the way first. Thanks for chiming in and staying tuned. Thank you.

Durban x Thai Highflywer Update Day 56 from Seed/ 26 Days 11/13

Durban x Thai Highflywer Update Day 56 from Seed/ 26 Days 11/13

Well it looks like we wont have to wait long for these lovely ladies to begin flowering. Its only been 11 days since we last saw these hybrids, and they've all kicked into early flowering with white fuzzy buds beginning to form.

A few of them have also gotten quite leggy too having grown nearly as tall as I am, and will likely over take me soon. Ill need to resort to tieing the tops down to a lower portion of the bamboo stakes. If they overgrow the light the leaves canoe downwards and look like they're under water stress, but they just want more light. Get em too close to the light, and they suffer and yellow quicker than lower portions of the plant. Hard to please.

Thai Stick A is half the cross in these ladies, and she is more finicky when it comes to too much light, and too high of EC compared to my other Thai moms, so Ill need to be very mindful of that with these Thai/durban hybrids.

So far Ive only been feeding @ 300 ppm the last two weeks during early flowering. Ive had prior issues with too much fertility during early stages of flowering with the Durban Poison lately. Id like to avoid the same mistakes with these Durban Hybrids and have them enter flowering without any hiccups that could delay their finish.

So far so good. The developing buds are coming in nicely, and Ive only lost the very first set of true leaves at the plants base. Now the 2nd set of leaves are beginning to yellow and die off. I think thats pretty good after almost 2 months from seed. They're all due for an upcan into 3 gallon containers very soon. Were almost at the 2 week mark from our last transplant.

I couldn't take my eyes of those Durban I think they are in the back ground, looking good my friend. i have some cobs cooking in my propagator box with a blanket over it, because the week is forecast to be cold and wet. We shall see how they turn out.
What can I say about your alligator plant you are a wizard my friend, and I should know.

I have a plant I love its a Malawi cross. Mulanji x Thai Tanic, Thai Tanic was from Flying Dutchman a Thai/Skunk cross. Great high but only a couple of hours long.
The seeds from the cross grow huge colas and the high is amazing African happy high.
I got a male from the cross and pollinated a female from the same cross for more seeds.
But I left the male in my grow area while I was away for 2 weeks and it knocked up the Mozambique, Malawi Gold and Swazi plants so I am not unhappy as such but I would have liked a more controlled single bud of each pollination.
But the plants are reflowering which will add a bit of bulk and the seeds are maturing well.
The cobs i used to get in Africa all had seeds in some more than others.
If you cob the buds in a looser type of cob, sweat it as usual for say 3 weeks when you dry the cob at the end. the brocken up buds are powdery and the seeds come away easily.
Plus you have a large amount of dry powdery plant matter that has cured resins all over it.
I would take the larger pieces for eating or smoking and the bulk of the powder and pieces.
Either make oil or hash.
This is what I will do with my seeded plants. The high from such matured resins is just as good if not better than seedless when it is cured first IMO.

Ive had the Thai Tanic on my on my radar for a long time, but never picked any up. Although I do have some of Sam's Thunk stashed away in the fridge to play with one day. I hope it'll be as good as your Thaitanic or better if Im lucky. Sam's Hazeskunk is pretty damn good, so Ive got high hopes for it.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of interesting crosses to grow out in your future. I hope they deliver some true gems.

Thanks for the tips on cobbing for seed retrieval. The easier to get them out the better. Nothing worse than smoking a seed. The flavor is so awful.

Ive not smoked any heavily seeded buds before, so Im looking to the improved high you and Thcvhunter proclaim. Can't wait to smoke those cobs.

Wow!...

Half a year to flower (well just about)...

You must be a bit stressed with all that work to do now, but it must be done.....of course, it'll be worth it.

Remember that the Thai has been used to growing along the banks of the Mekong river for many generations, so it's a bit out of sorts growing in the conditions that you have provided for it, but looks to have finished well enough to make you happy, which is nice.

Well done Dave!

Half a year...Times sure does fly with these ladies. I tend to experience time lapses under their influence. What seems like 15-20 minutes in my mind in reality is an hour or more. I lose track of time so easily under these Thai. Sure does help the months pass by easier.

The extra work does wear on a guy, but id rather my harvest be too large than not large enough. Thai Stick G produced a very large abundance of buds to enjoy. Such a horrible thing to deal with.

I never really gave much consideration to how the differing environments affect these ladies. I try my best to provide hospitable conditions, but there's always room for tweaking and improving. Thanks for making them available and for following along. :thank you:

Awesome man, she looks lovely. But more importantly I can't wait to see what those special beaners hold :)

Thanks SourDank. Glad you like em so much. Im excited to see what comes of them too. Im finally beginning to get scents from them, and its light fruity/citrus scents, but that will change as they progress. Ill be sure to share what these beans hold as they progress.

Yep, Ive got 4 Durban ladies flowering in there among the Durban/Thai hybrid. All in different stages of flowering. 1 of them has lots of anthocyanin pigments showing through as Ive let her fertility levels drop as we reach the last month of flowering. Expect some shots of those Durbans soon. I think you'll be well pleased.

I like the idea of your propagator box. I get decent results by sitting my cobs on my reflector, but the lights aren't on 24-7. I imagine a consistent temp would lead to better results in the cobs. Ill stay tuned to your thread about the results of it.

Hi Dave those hybrids you have going look awesome I reckon the Durban will help reduce the size of them. It will be interesting to see how the high has changed as well. I cant believe they will be any less potent so you may have the best of both worlds. A guy on another forum suggested using a yogurt making machine (google them) and I reckon he was right to sweat the cobs at the right temperature.

Thanks tang. They're a beauty. I snapped a few pics of them tonight to share. You'll see two lean towards the Thai In the mix once I get pics up. Some also are shorter so definitely some DP influence to be seen too. I' can't wait to see how the high and terpene profiles turn out.

I'll look into the yogurt machine. Thanks for the tip. If it looks promising, I'll give it a try.

Glad I'm not the only one who loves the look of cobbed thai stick. Im definitely cobbing more whole colas going forward. Make sure to check out tangs thread for lots of great info on cobbing. Stick around for more cobs in the future.

Hi Dave I reckon those shorter plants would be my favorite, wink wink nudge nudge.
I have ordered a yogurt maker for $65, constant 40c temp 2ltr capacity. I should be able to get 10 or so cobs in that like cigars.
The Swazi will be the next to be cobbed so they can go in the yogurt maker, I am so excited.

ShitHaze Update Day 80 days flowering.

ShitHaze Update Day 80 days flowering.

Day 102 from seed.

It's been 25 days since we last saw them. Were getting closer to harvest. I think 2-3 weeks till possible harvest. Maybe longer. They may appear ready now but the buds will look even better with more time to develop.

Smells on them range from sweet berries and fruity all the way to a sweaty armpit stuffed with rotten meat. Classic Mr. nice shit. One lady has the strong catpiss aroma from sams haze skunk but tempered with some of Mr. Nice fruity tones.

Spot the Durban in the background.

Here's a full shot of DP-E everyone. Still needs about a month to finish up. I'd estimate she is around 100 days flowering. A lil too much juice at the beginning of flowering delayed her finish but soon she'll be ready to bring down. Maybe 10% white pistils left but the calyxes need a bit more time to develop.

The buds are a lovely deep shade of purple, coated in glistening resin glands, and smell amazing. I can't wait to have more of this to puff on soon.

Check out the few Shithaze that pop up in the pics. Big chunky spear shaped buds that are almost ready. MmmmMmm

This is another clone of her that's around 3-4 weeks behind her in flower. Still green leaves but buds are purpling up nicely.

Anyone up for some thai stick? This is the mom from the thai x Durban cross we've been seeing lately. It's easy to see where the lateral branching comes from in some of the hybrid offspring.

I've not done any training or topping on this lady. She just developed naturally this way. I wish I could flower her this size but it's not feasible indoors so I'll be trimming her back quite a bit soon.

She's been flowering for close to a week along with the other 3 ladies. Its Thai year round here in my garden.

I'm blown away by this ladies coloring every night I check on her. So I had to snap some more pics to share.

She is part of the other half of the Durban/Thai hybrid. I'm hoping the purpling in her will show up in the offspring later on. Fingers crossed.

I'll keep it short tonight. Got to tend to the ladies now.

Durban Thai Hybrid photo update.

Durban Thai Hybrid photo update.

I snapped a few pics recently that I want to share with you all.

Most of the ladies are progressing very well into flowering with no signs of excess fertility except for one. Clawed/ downward canoe sugar leaves on her. I've moved her under directly under the reflector so she would get more light, which leads to soil fertility levels dropping quicker than if she was on the edge.

I just now had to snap the main top over. It was 12 inches from the 600w ushio opti blue mh. Too close for best results. It's at 2 feet distance now. Too close and the canopy will yellow before the bottom of the plant. Can't have that now.

I'll attempt to do my best with them and deliver something worthy for your hungry eyes.

Now who wants to see some Durban Thai Hybrid???

I'm hoping they'll be winners too. Definitely appealing to the eyes for sure.

I'm glad to have been of help. My prior mistakes are helping you avoid the very same ones.

With such long flowering times were afforded many chances to do wrong. May no harm come to your fine ladies. :thank you:

What type you got going right now? Lets see em
