Great thread. The Thai looks wonderful.
such commitment!
For some reason this is actually refreshing.
Bro that purple plant is just amazing! Props!
I grew out a few plants from seed I collected in Colombia a couple years back. They were narrow leaved nd lanky, but they were all male. Germed in Feb, and the last one gave up in june. I collected pollen from all three, and recently dusted some revegging Durban clones I've got in the closet, but I must not have collected or stored it well, because I still don't have seeds forming. I'll try again when i flower the Durbans properly. I'll definitely go up to #5s, as they're already in #1, need repotting, and still aren't back to five leaflets. I might put one outside next year in a #35 or something ridiculous like that.
Thanks! Hope i'm not hijacking.
Gonna give you a bump homie, how's the Thai and sexy Durban doin??
G`day DC
Do we have any evidence the Thai stick crops were grown to full maturity ?
Well, I wasn't there in Thailand when these seeds were collected, so I really can't answer your question one way or another.
Next question , where was it grown ? Local folks in central Thailand have never seen or heard of it !
According to a post by Dutchgrown, it was grown in the
south region of the Nong Khai Province, or at least where they met farmers and collected/purchased seeds from. If the location is right, then the local folks in central Thailand aren't in the right province to experience these Thai I would think.
The brick weed sold in Thailand these days is def picked early . I have expanded a cpl of bricks and was surprised by the immaturity of the flowers . Though still quite resinous .
Picking crops early seems to be a worldwide problem with many growers. You see it in the brick weed over there, and I see it in the rec/medical weed that makes it into my state in the US, and even that quality of weed is often times weeks immature if not a month most times. So many impatient people out there whacking their beautiful ladies down early.

Ah Nong Kai ...
Basically the gateway to Laos ... Cross the bridge over the Mekong and your on Laos soil .
I`d say that herb wasn`t grown in Thailand . Much easier to negotiate with the police to grow a crop on the Laos side of the border .
Anything is possible I suppose, but without being there when the seeds were acquired by GN, its just speculation.
Nong Kai is Nth East Thailand . A region called Isaan . Hasn`t been commercial herb grown out there since Sam blew through in the 70s .
Who says these seeds had to come from commercial farmers? Supposedly these seeds were from the farmers, who grew out Thai-(stick) in the 60's and 70's and likely beyond because who ever gives up growing after starting? These seeds are the progeny of those plants. Maybe the farmers are small time growers now who only grow for themselves, friends and family?
Maybe everything provided to us by DG and GN about this Thai is just pure bullshit? I can't help but feel like you are attempting to cast aspersions on this line knowing full well I can't confirm nor deny any info about it already available. I do understand that you may be dubious about the origins of this line or any other line after all the bullshit that runs rampant in the seed industry. At some point we have to take the breeder/seed gatherer at their word.
From there, all I can do is grow it out and share it with everyone who wants to come along for the slow ride to Thai paradise.
A friends father was employed by the army to eradicate in that region .
I` will do some more investigations re Thai stick . But my buddy who has lived n Thailand 20 + years said he could not find any locals who had heard of let alone seen a Thai stick .
Sounds like a CIA op to me . I was just thinkin . If you asked a local in the Andes if they knew what good powder coke was , they would prolly not know what its about . Context ?

I recall the story ,, said they were farmers that previously farmed on the thai side , but had to move to laos during the eradication program the americans initiated ...
I dunno if the thai stick was more directed toward a farang customer or not,
but heard they were available readily in bkk in the better days ,
even at the markets , nicely presented thai sticks for the waiting customers ,
with their bit of ocd i can imagine them presenting them or wanting too as nicely as they could ,
no sweat , the woman were making the sticks , not like the guys were doing that over there eb ,, hehehe ..
the golden thai we got bags of as the sticks were disappearing were most certainly grown to the full potential , recalling the buds , one wonders if there wasnt just a touch of wld in there , they were well developed and had some meat about them , i guess we will never know .. wished id seen thailand during that golden era ...

I am following your grow with interest . No aspersions . Trying to fill in an American guy who has never been to Thailand, and knows little about the marijuana trade of the past there, nor the happenings of yesteryear and today.Udon Thani air base USAF use during the war
USAF Use During The Vietnam War
Udon was a front-line facility of the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Vietnam War from 1964 through 1975.

Whoa !
Casting aspersions ? Not the intention . I visited Nong Kai earlier this year . So was excited to hear the reference .
Don seems to back up my story . Not grown in Thailand anymore . Now grown in Laos .
So I might have a clue what I`m talkin about ?
Udon Thani just down the road was a US strong hold in the 60s -70s . Eradication would have been felt there early on .

I have an active interest in Thai genetics past and present .
