Well it's the summer solstice here today. Longest day of the yr. The daylight is 17 hrs plus almost 2 hrs of twilight. So we have light from about 4 am to 11 pm. Yesterday another hail storm went though, hopefully missed the plants.

I was out at the plot clearing bush and transplanting. They have not grown much since last update due to cool weather and lots of cloudy sky's. So I will not bore you with more pics yet. I did take a pic of the Tikal that I literally planted in the middle of a deer trail. If you look closely you can see deer tracks in the soft soil around the plant. :)
The deer did not eat it at all.

Sometimes it's not the big critters we have to worry about. When clearing bush I felt a burning on my hand. A Hornet stung me. I continued to work rest of day with a little swelling. But the next day my hand looked like a football.

The joy's of guerrilla growing.
Keep it green my friends. Update with pics probably next week.
Peace GG

that one plant on top oh boy would i top it :) you would see lower shoots shoot up as well as 2 new shoots coming from top where you topped
or just pinch the stem and fold top over

Thanks for the concern guys. The swelling has came down and it feels better. It was just a local reaction in the hand and half way up my arm. Lucky I am not allergic or I would be composting out in the woods right now.

I was not planning on doing any topping. IMHO the untopped shape is a more wind tolerant and blends in better with the forest. Also I wanted to see the natural shape of each strain. But... plans change. I was hoping to take cuttings from the lower branches to use for making seeds. Because they don't have long enough side branches yet, I may take the tops for clones, root them and hope they grow enough to produce some seeds. That way I can keep the main plants seed free. I may try to take pollen out in the field and pollinate the lower branches. Both methods will be hard because of the remote location and I don't want to be going out there to often. If anyone has some suggestions as to which method would be most effective I am all ears. Thanks in advance for your help

clone female and male plant them together at another location and hope for the best :) its timing when to chuck pollen and if your not there at right time your screwed blued and tatooed :)

Look forward to more. I want to grow tikal too.

I had my plants going sideways from the wind and storm here yesterday. Thankfully no hail.

Rest in peace Durban Poison

She was taken before her time. The first casualty from mother nature.
A deer stepped on her of all things. A moment of silence please.

The deer must be getting used to me being in the area. I noticed a few places where they bedded down for the night. One deer agreed with you guys and could not stand seeing this Shaman untopped, so she took it upon herself to top it.

I replaced the DP with a Bangi Haze. The Bangi and Tikal are the only ones to not show sex yet. Hopefully the deer do not step on this one.

Remember that damn Hornet that stung me. Well it happened when I was clearing bushes for the DP that got trampled. I found their home. My first thought was to come back next time with some killer spray. On reflection I decided to let them live and just try and be careful around them. It might be a dumb decision.

More pics and update tomorrow if I get the chance.

Keep it green my friends

Gotta love deer, I have had a nice sized buck (7 point whitetail) decided he liked my spot and made it bedding area, good bye 7 plants, I like to think he ate them first at least and they didn't go to complete waste.

Careful around the hornets, I usually can work around 5-10 meters away from them and they don't bother me even when it's really hot, been close to 10 years since one stung me and it was because I was working near they nest and someone thought it was funny to throw a rock at it.

If you get stung, and have easy access to the bite location, pinch it hard, like you would a zit and you can often get most of the poison back out. It will be clear, or slightly yellowish, I squeeze until I start to get a little blood coming out. This will decrease your pain considerably and also speed recovery time. Ive gotten stung by hornets several times and usually end up with a bump about the size of a bad skeeter bite and it goes away in a day or two.

Part 2 of update:

Well I transplanted a few more on my last visit. The ground was pretty dry in some holes. We usually have a fairly wet June, but this year only a few quick storms rolled through. The weather is expected to be 26-31 C / 79-88 F the next week with no rain. This might not seem warm to you southerners but we only hit 30 C / 86 F or above for a couple weeks or so all summer up here. They would probably grow a foot or so if I was watering. Instead with no water the stress will continue.

Here is a pic of S6 that I did a little L.S.T to. Well actually after first transplant I found this one had been blown over and was growing under the fence I had put around it. When I freed it I just bent it over and tied it down again. I will let it straighten itself out now.

This is the DP that was under some vicious attack from bugs. It's trying hard to outgrow the damage and the upper half looks healthy.

As you can see with absolutely no bug spray and only last minute prep of some sandy soil the plants look healthy overall. I know with proper soil and extra water they would be a lot bigger. This is a test to see the best under less than idea conditions. Let's hope they survive the heat and drought for the next week or so. I also expect to see more deficiencies as they get larger. The holes that I dug are at most 2ft x 2ft. You guerrillas know how hard it is to dig though tree roots and native plants that are well established.
Hope you all are having a great season.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think of that and it would have saved me some swelling and pain.

everthing looks good with minimal prep work on those. shame about the Dp. it seems of all places they have to step they hit the plant. it never fails me either if i dont use a cage they will step on it and kill it. at least u got a nice replacement in there the bangi haze. it will be alot better then DP anyways in all catergories..i'll be checking in hoping for a great year for us both
