Butane Residue Test Results

I had a hunch it was just in the propane portion.

The new shipment they got in last week was ONLY n-tane. I know for a fact as I have had many exchanges with sean and Nicole the last month!

I have some of their blend I picked up 3 weeks ago or so, I'm scared to distill it!

So from the new shipment of n-tane, looks good bothers and sisters! I tilted the machine a little roads the sight glass, I then did 5# to test. Looked in the glass and there was barely anything. Then did another 5, looked the same, maybe even less some how? I'm currently doing the remaining 14#s. When it's done I'll Crack the pot, take pics, and try to scrape and weigh residue.

I tried keeping the temp low but was taking forever and I had to keep cycling the pump from keeping it from going into vacuum. So I added heat the water bath, kept it between 65-70F.

I've read 60F, 70F, and gw just said 85F. When I was taught a year ago I was told 70F. Can people please chime in on their current preferred distilling water bath temps?

I'm on the way, north of sac. Hehehe I can bring back these blend tanks!

Oh yeah, I wanted to ask about the smell thing, I read somewhere on here that after distillation the gas should have no smell at all. I cracked the tank a little and there's definitely the classic butane smell I've known for a decade now. Same smell even when I had distilled cans before. Can some one give me some guidance on this?

Butane smells like the air out of the inter tube from the rear tire of the bike the pretty little red head used to ride to school.

Graywolf says 85F max. You have the spread between -0.5°C/ 31.1°F, and 36.1C/97F, to play with. 60F is closer to them middle.

Since you don't really care about the propane fraction, you could also crowd that end of the scale. The lower the temperature, the slower recovery, so it comes at a cost.

All I can do is repeat like a broken record, do my test on it. It only costs you a plastic bag, 300ml of butane, and a few minutes of your time. You will then have a fix on the weight, odor, and color of the non-volatile residue. And if you slow the rise in temperature of the dish surface directly under the bag at the end of boil off so it crawls back to ambient, you can then also see and smell the volatile residues slowly come off, very interesting if you really care. :huggg:

Eco, has posted their lab letters. I think it was vividavis who had the pdf and posted it up.

I will track down the pdf so we can post it here. The mostly full 70/30, never burped or flipped upsided down, is in Vegas just a few hundred miles from SH.

I will work on getting it a ride over to his place!

PS Sean is building his business reputation, right now that business owes me thousands of dollars for wasted time and ruined work product because of their intentional distribution of KNOWN faulty goods. When you speak to Sean explain to him that I passed the bar exam, not for fun but for personal situations just as this... Also let him know that I don't go around making shit up.

Sean at EcoGreen offered to send me some tanks to test, and I said no, as I don't want the leftover around the house, I went through that last time... I had to practically beg someone to come over and take it off my hands as it needed to be distilled.

So Hydrosun, how about doing my 'a 5th Grader could do it' test yourself on that leftover old 70/30?

Here's the listing for the scale I use for my non-volatile residue (Mystery Oil) testing,

http://www.amazon.com/American-Weig...id=1424213123&sr=8-1&keywords=milligram+scale

I use the two calibration weights to check every reading, and recalibrate as necessary.

If any of you guys can't do the this simple test, you shouldn't be extracting with butane. Om Tat Sat

Lmfao! I was more thinking it was the brunette girl that wasn't so pretty, but I'll take your word on it!

The part about not selling into anyone unless they expressly know isn't true in my case. I talked to him and Nicole on the phone and no one said shit. When I was up there last week, two weeks after I got those blend tanks, they both were there and no one said shit! I'm not mad though, and I'd like to believe he's not intentionally trying to kill people. I'm sure it could have been a bait and switch or shady business on china's end.

Soooo distilling complete on one whole 24# tank of fresh batch of n-tane they got in last week. I was actually really impressed! Out of all that there was so damn little oil left in the bottom I didn't even bother to scrape it, idk if I even have a scale that could go that low. I've seen 10x this amount in half that weight from cans in the past! Thank god, jah, great spirit, the force, the oneness, and especially ganesha for removing this obstacle for me!

I never went above 70F and never let it go into vac. Which was a pain to cycle the pump at the end but whatever this is in the name of science! The pic with the flash makes it look like way more, especially with the reflections on the side. There was NO residue above the gasket line. Wiping it out with a paper towel showed me how even less than I thought was actually in there! I'm starting to wonder if I messed up but I sat by that baby all day and monitored temps and pressures!

Now take a 300ml/165g sample and run my test on it. And if you also would have run my test on it before distillation you'd know everything...

My buddy just finished his distilling of 24# and he reported the same. There was way less residue than if he distilled a master case of turbo power 5. He said the ecogreen tane had a much more pungent smell to the residue though. I honestly didn't think it was that bad at all myself.

I was really excited to try the blend but I'm not even gonna test it or play with it at all cause I think I have the same batch as everyone else. I'm taking it back un opened for a refund so I'm not going to test it and break the seal.

"New tank of EcoGreen butane still not clean after 7 CL cycles"

and the advice from Fadedawg is, "You are running too hot. Pentane boils at 36.2C/97F.

http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9927384"

http://www.rollitup.org/t/new-tank-of-ecogreen-butane-still-not-clean-after-7-cl-cycles.859130/

Come on guys, why not figure out how to slow it down enough to get a clean distill in one pass, and then figure out how to do that as simply and quickly as possible. You're approaching this ass backwards imo.

Well I did it at 70F. And the tank I did and the one my friend did was super clean, so idk if that was directed at me or not, but I'm not too concerned.

*edit* these two tanks were off the fresh shipment of ONLY n-tane they got in last week.

SkyHighLer - Your condescending attitude is very unnecessary.

We realize we can do the test ourselves, but it seems like that is what YOU like to do, hence this thread...

Take a bong shot and chill out....

I disagree. SkyHighLer is a stand up guy. He's the kind of guy that has
forgotten more than we know. Much like Grey Wolf. Maybe that's why he seems that way.
He's definitely a chill dude.

I PROMISE to do the test on the next 50lb tank I open.

I also promise to BOYCOTT EcoGarbage, and recommend anyone use a master case appx 32lbs of butane, instead of anything from EcoGarbage.

I will buy a .001 scale and test the tank. I am not near the tank today, but will be in the future.

Transferring 99.999% N Butane over for its 5x distillation. This is when I wish I had a crazy fast recovery pump!! Looking forward to start hearing reviews of the new CMEP-OL. - #knottyy #distillation #cleanmeds #ironfistextractors #FireBros #NWBA"

Five times..... now do my test on it, and see if you got it all.

I'm contemplating making a "How to test your butane for Mystery Oil" YouTube video. I've been looking at GoPros...

Bret exposed a lot people to what are now the basics. :tiphat: No mugging for the camera from me, if this works out though I'll probably eventually do a demo of my soldering station e-dabber, and my purge technique of a thin film at 115F down to -29.5" Hg for about an hour.

Ordered the plain GoPro Hero with headstrap mount and a SD card. I've got Prime, I'll have it in a day or so.

I'll try and shoot and post the whole thing, if the software works ok I'll add a little condensed version as an intro.

Never done anything like this before... my YouTube account's in my real full name...this should be interesting, haha, if this doesn't get me a seat on the BHO panel at Chalice, nothing will.
