Are old genetics.. just plain out of date now?

Someone I know has a bunch of old genetics/seeds (2006-2010'ish) , which are probably mostly dead now from age. But not totally dead.
Question would be, why bother if they are all outdated and low THC stuff compared to the thousands and thousands of new "strains" that seem to be everywhere? Nobody had THC % reports on any of that old stuff.
This period (2006-2010) is kind of a transition period.

For the most part the new (now old) American genetics; OGs, Chems, and Sours were hoarded clone only varieties that most growers did not have access to.

But especially towards the end there were some breeders that were starting to work with them. DNA, Cali Connection, Kryptonite, OG Raskal, Reservoir Seeds... can't remember all but surely others others as well. If there are seeds like that in the collection I have no doubt there are phenos to be found in those seeds that can compete with anything contemporary in regards to cannabinoid or terpene content.

The vast majority were still growing older strains back then though. Haze hybrids were popular (Super Lemon Haze was introduced during this period for example). Blueberry hybrids, Bubblegum... Might not be quite as high in THC content or quite as loud. But are still very popular today with people growing headstash, it would seem based on the forums at least. Potency isn't everything. And the potency of these strains is still very high. Sure 20% is less than 30% but it's still a lot.

Man I’ll never forget a friend of mine and I getting dropped off at a local park so we could skateboard. My friends mom had dropped us off. It was prob 1997 or 1998 and this was the place to go.
We were looking for a parking block to wax up when I found a small g baggie full of seeds! It was sitting where you would imagine it would if it had fallen out of a car door. It was so full I remember it being about an inch thick (It prob wasn’t quite that lol).
I vaguely remember seeing some cops a little ways away in the parking lot and being too chicken shit to pocket it. I knew they were seeds though, and I knew they had value.. even at that age. That shit has stuck with me for over 20 years and Maybe it was meant to happen like that but still… I wish I could have grabbed them!!
Keep the old ones goin!

Who knows what jewel could have come out of those seeds haha. You could be so rich and famous right now, you would even have a subforum where a horde of asslicking psychophants would treat you like the second coming of christ.

But the worst part is the likes man, just think about all those instagram likes you missed. That's the real tragedy. The likes.

Lol yeah doesn’t that sound glorious.
Nah I’d share with whoever had an interest. Life’s too short, money is evil, and medicine should be available for all.
Plus I haven’t used ig in years. This forum takes up all the internet time I give myself these days, and it ain’t much!

To have a piece of that era preserved for people today to share would be a magical thing. Plus I flat out miss the herb of those days.

oh the nostalgia…

What are the genetics? Which breeders, what varieties, etc.

Are the seeds from Canadian, American, or European breeders?

Anything post the year 2000 is not old. Not yet at least. The time period you are describing is when most of the European seedstock was no longer the same as before the raids, so the exact date in which the different packs were acquired is important.

Nor does “old” mean that it’s good .. i’m gonna repeat myself and say that the golden age of marijuana is right now (and I’m not some new kid on the block either I’ve smoked all them ..
I grew up with them talking 1970’s imported Colombians Jamaicans Mexicans & Thai plus lotta the glorious strains from the seed banks of the mid& late 80s into the early 90s ..Just saying …and you can take this or leave it with a grain of salt …I’m just going by what my experience tells me

Can you elaborate a bit on this @star crash? I don’t really have a strong opinion on the matter either way.

Just kinda curious! 👍

Welcome to the conscious wise future of cannabis industry far from reptilians and grey
Hi there Roms
There is a big difference between 70s and today

No prob they are all in good hands ;)
Good hands means hoarded deep in the freezer of breeders speculating to make money with the supposed sativa revival which will never come and in the meantime until the golden sativa era comes they breed and grow blueberry/skunk/cookies bullshit?
I know several old school breeders and preservers from the U.S. and there's private spheres unknown online so guys ahead of the times are everywhere. Good luck with your lines Hmong! 👍
This is really sad
This is not the way to keep a strain alive breeding and preserving tropical sativas indoors or well outside the tropics very far from their landrace locations
What can we expect of us breeders?
We can expect genetics to get their name changed and call colombian any seed coming from Landraceland they put their hands on
A lot of hype and bs, washed down genetics, seeds costing 15u$s each regular and they are all selling hype and very little high
I expect these breeders to select towards purple bracts
I never saw purple bracts in real life. Purple sativas suck, low quality weed
The result of all this is a disaster for the lovers of ganja

You are writing this I dont know if you tried to erase it:

Hey there :tiphat: There’s nothing to elaborate I’m very familiar with the older strains of the 70s in the 80s just like I’m familiar with the strains of the 90s & the 2000s up thru today & I don’t look through anything with Rose color glasses…… my point is I just don’t want anyone automatically assuming just because something is “ old “ that automatically means that it’s “better“ cause it couldn’t be further from the truth… Evolution of moves forward & very rarely does it move backwards…People who think modern hybrids are not any good ihaven’t tried the right ones …I could see how people would think that is because there are so many of them and yeah there are a lot of crap out there but there was also a lot of crap everywhere

FP, I just learnt a couple of days ago this word from member Elanius
The weed of old I love so much had creeper high. My best current genetics are creeper high and I made them myself, I cant find them in the commercial canna world
Do you guys know which strains have creeper high?
Creeper high is the only spiritual weed, it is Santa Maria

For instance, I read about a sativa revival from 2007-2010
This is the time when the seedhunters arrived to southamerica only to find degraded genetics and making a lot of hype and bs out of it and this is what is being kept in usa
Look at lambsbread. The collective keeping it they all bred for purple bracts. Purple bracts is not spiritual weed and I am sure it has no creeper high.
Today it seems you hardly find green ones
The best genetics I have is from this time 2007-2010
Creeper weed landrace sent from Thailand by a swedish traveller stayed in the freezer in Denmark for 12 years and it was considered garbage because it goes intersex indoors. This is the kind of weed I would have sourced as a seedhunter. It is by far my best weed and it is the only creeper high I found. Crosses I am making with this strain are coming creeper high as well

This means for a reason or for another, breeders it doesnt matter if they are from Usa or not, breeding out of the tropics and out of their native environments are washing the genetics down and breeding far from effect quality
Breeding for sex is not breeding. Intersex traits remain in the line
