A few pages back we were discussing pruning large plants. I only normally top young tips on dry weeks but recently I had to topped straight through the main stem on a auto I was struggling to control.

The result after a few weeks of bad weather:

Might be acceptable for the guys & girls out in the desert but coastal growers beware.

@Eggy, if it were not for bad luck you'd have none this year. Looks like a couple of cracks down a bit from the top.

Think those cracks were where I yanked it out of the ground. I still have the other auto that behaved slightly better. The one in the picture was a pain form the start.. I won't shed a tear for her.

I personally avoid topping as it creates a weak point on the plant for it to split and infection be introduced. Not big on pruning them either. I try and let them run their course so they can be strong as possible.

In the wild I let them be. The natural structure is strongest. I topped this GG4 accidentally and this was the result.

If it's in my control and can feed, water and babysit daily, I'll top and pinch until it goes into flower. I'll put up a welded wire cage and trellis it. But in the field? Let it be.

I agree the regular plants I've got out at my guerrilla patch will be left to grow as they see fit.

You can seal the top of a cut stem with wax to protect it. I've done it before in the fall when I wanted to take off the top few feet of a plant and let the bottom grow out.

Growing weed is a great exercise in patience. Germinating seed and starting my seedlings is always the training ground for putting them out. Now that they're out, I find my training failing me. I want to get out there and check on them all the time with "giving them a drink" the excuse I use most often to convince myself it's OK to check on them. My visits are usually on weekends. I have a lot of small sites this year, so not everyone gets a regular visit.

How often do you visit your gorillas?

About every 4-5 days for me, I plan on adjusting my soil to hold more water in the future because in my opinion I visit too often.

some boreal lights pics from today. warm and sunny here, but no real rain, so things are slowly coming along. these are at a seed making spot, so i don't get to them as much as my other spots.

I use water crystals for the ones I wont be visiting. I put them in a jug and hydrate them. When I plant I put lots in the bottom. Helps a lot. Next time I do that I'll add liquid ferts.

Visited the Plant Beings in the pit this morning.

Those are bottles of Chicken Manure, Wood Ash, and Special Disgusting Nitrogen Source, highly diluted.

Each plant gets about a 1/2 gallon of TLC Juice.

one on the left is a Cookie mix (Phantom Cookies x Candyland) x Jack Herer.

in the middle, something x a male {Purple Trainwreck x Apollo 11}.

Third one on the right is Dieselicious x a male {Candyland x Apollo 11}.

I wouldn't mind if one of this is a Male.
