Last night I made the grueling move across the swamp. What an adventure that was. I've never been so ripped to shreds by saw grass, briers, and thorns like this before... No exaggeration, it's too painful to wear long pants right now cause my legs have been slashed raw from the knees down. I normally wear shorts on my adventures because of my style of wading through waterways. Definitely going to be carrying long pants to change into after I'm on semi-dry land. At one point I slammed into a fallen tree hidden in the grass and did a flip over it into some poison nettles, all while holding a 7 gallon smart pot full of soiless mix in each hand. I landed on my back and the pots upside down with me still holding them. Somehow I managed to get to my feet while entangled in the tree without losing most of my mix.

This new spot is awesome. Hard as hell to get to, gets full sun exposure for at least 10 hours out of the day, and best of all it sits on a flood plain. The ground is consistently moist and will allow the fabric pots to wick up and self water to some extant. 7 Boreal lights in, going to drop the last 5 when they're ready. Game on.

On reading this harrowing account of your epic slog though the swamp while scouting for a grow site, I am pleased to inform you that the Grand Order of Swamp Grow Brethren has decided to formally induct you as a card-carrying member of the sacred sect, with all rights and privileges implied.

Please step up top the podium, where the traditional regalia of office will be awarded to you in an elaborate ceremony attended by dignitaries too many to mention.

Is this the goat or gator ceremony? Lol

Damn JST, that would have been hilarious on video. You need to get a camera crew. Lol

Well the first ground soaking rains hit us last night. The 1st since the end of April. Remnants of the tropical storm Fay. We should get more òver the next few days. And thank god the heat broke.

We got the odd sprinkling or sun shower before but it would evaporate in the blazing sun within and hour. Corn started canabalising its bottom leaves.

@Swamp Thang... Membership accepted. It's an honor to be a part of the soggy shoed, insect bitten, mud-caked clan. Worst initiation rite I've been through to date, I'd say that it was well earned.

@Tycho... We need to start a whole series dedicated to grower bloopers. That wasn't the only tree I tripped over, just the only one to send me airborne cause I was overconfident after a few trips and tried to run lol. Slow and steady wins the race.

Anyone know what's causing this? One of my plants (early grape berry) up at the guerilla site has had a tough time recently with all the rain I've had, noticed last week that the leaves were looking a little rusty.. this week she has grown loads but still has this rustyness about the leaves and the apical tip is a bit purple.. my other plants seem fine except for the auto amnesia runt.

Any ideas? And do you think I should pull it just to be safe? The weather for the next week is fine sunny and dry.

I grew in the Florida Everglades in the mid-80's..

Dirty sand was full of nutrients, soil stayed moist 12 inches down and 60 minutes of rain almost every afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00...

Some of the easiest growing I ever did, except for the fact of getting in there, and the giant mosquitoes that would eat you alive even in the bright sunshine...

I hope I’m wrong but that second picture looks like mite damage...

Yeah that was my first my first thoughts but all of them have been sprayed regularly and all came from the same greenhouse... Has anyone had a plant sensitive to insecticide?

S/he is otherwise growing at a fair rate along with the other two about the same age... However if it's still looking sketchy next week it's getting pulled

Don’t go getten’ all crazy on us Eggy!! Your season has already taken a big hit.
Looks like spider mites to me. Incects don’t have lungs, they breathe through their exoskeleton, that’s why oils and soap work in sim bios to get rid of ‘em, spreaders and stickers.
I thought about posting this in the ’Gurilla Backpack” thread but take a pair of binoculars with you and if you turn them upside down you’ve got a microscope to the inverse power of what ever they are!!!
I saw someone say “don’t carry a bird watching book” but l love birds and know lots about them but if you’re not into that, carry a camera and take lots of photos.

I had a hive of bees move into one of my patches and l thought “cool, bees are cool”.
We got on really well for the first season, l’d bring them honey to eat and they were affable and lovely.
I didn’t know that when the hive splits, it becomes an inbred hive, like when brothers and sisters love each other in a special way.
I was tending the plants trying not to get getting stung all the time. You could hear the change in their flight going into attack mode.
It was a bit shit but l still loved it and if l moved really slowly l wouldn’t upset anyone.
There was one time (on band camp) when l got stung on the forehead and stared swatting, nec minute, running like Usane Bolt, being chased by a swarm of bees.
You can hear them behind you and on my dogs lives, don’t stop until you get at least 100meters away.

I once saw two bee keepers in full gear sprinting for an easy 200 yards with bees in hot pursuit. The men ran right past me, perhaps in the hopes of offering the bees an alternative target, but the bees simply ignored me and stayed right on the tail of the fleeing men.

I guess a good way to discover how fast one is capable of running, would be to get chased by an angry swarm of bees in no mood to take prisoners.

A couple shots from the outside of the pen. Can't let them go feral. Some of the biggest trees I've grown.
