Wow that Schrews Purple Sprites has some big leaves now that I put it in perspective. Nice sturdy support cages, I should find the time to do the same , I usually go nuts staking and bracing .Nice plants and garden! I see you have some greens and herbs scattered around as well

Hey everyone,
thanks Old Piney, there’s a lot of hard work in there. The weld mesh is the most cost effective way l could find to support the plants.
I like to grow my vegetables and herbs with my plants, it works really well for me. I love walking around the garden eating lunch or just getting my daily greens.
I’ve taken a couple of shots just because you noticed 🤗
I’ve also included a photo of the biggest fans in the garden this year, it’s one of the phenos of the Blackdog x Ancient OGf5; the longest finger is about a foot and a half long, or 450mm. The tallest is 1.3 meters and I’m sure if l had got them in earlier they would be bigger. It’s an example of just how important timing is in the garden for popping and plugging and achieving your goals for height and widths. Of course there’s a myriad of contributing factors that influence this such as strain, weather and flowering times but I’ll have a few more pieces of the puzzle for next year.
The radish Christmas decorations are on the other pheno of the same cross and the Forbidden Fruit x Lambrusco ( photo ended up between the two Blackdogs 🤷‍♂️) has grown another 2.5 inches in 24 hours and is now 1.4 meters tall; some really lovely, explosive vegetative growth.
And as an added extra bonus, something most growers will never see, it’s a photo of sulphur toxicity expressing itself in cannabis. It was bought about because l soaked these clones in a wettable sulphur solution before I put them out and l didn’t need them. It only took a week or so for them to express and I believe it’s happened because of the soil which was about 30-40% coco (which I don’t like) because it doesn’t buffer properly…..obviously and it’s not soil….my bad 👍
So just as an experiment l planted one, without flushing, just to see what happens. I’ve fed and flushed the others btw to see what happens as well.
Have a good one and
Cheers,
From 40 degrees south 🥳

Thanks for sharing the gardens guys! Does help a lot on these cloudy winter days! Its all good, walk in the Spirit. Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year!

40degSouth---The Sprite is really branchy! Need to look up that strain. What is the origin of sprite? I love seeing those big 18 inch fans you said were on the blackdog cross. Deep Chunk has really big fans like that. Grows well even in shade!

Hope those sulfer burnt plants grow out of it. Put them out in the sun and they will know what to do.

I like how you do companion planting! That is a nice little productive garden! Plants all look really happy! What are you fertilizing with? Can't remember if I asked already.

I like the radish ornaments on the Cannabis Christmas tree if thats what that was supposed to be.

Budnblunts-- Nice patches! Need a little more light in there on some of the plants, but thats how it goes. I try to clear back native plants quite a bit early, trim trees etc, so that it has time to grow in a little before flowering begins. It also helps to get plenty of light in there while they are small.

I have the Deep Chunk going out next year which many say is slow to grow in vegetative stage. Will need to get those started early as possible and have them in the front of the garden. I will probably plant those the first of April and the rest mid to late month. We'll have to see how the weather does. I don't use supplemental lighting, just a south facing window and a table on the back porch and move them back and forth.

Not sure on growth rate of Pine Tar Kush IBL and Sterling Skunk IBL. I think those are a little more normal. Although inbred lines are more homozygous and are prone to being slow due to less hybrid vigor/heterosis.

I think I will just run the indica strains that are most stable for the project this year so it gets the most stable seed, and gives them plenty of room.

Seeds to plant:

Deep Chunk IBL

Pine Tar Kush IBL

Sterling Skunk IBL

Oh yeah Sour Bubble F2's are on the way. Will definitely have those out there since they are in one of the hybrids in Sativa Candy Chunk! I really would like to run some of these freebies, and cross Deep Chunk with them, I will try to fit them in. Maybe pop them for backups and plant them just outside the garden with individual cages.

Still haven't got all the stock in yet. My friend said he had some extras to throw in there. Have another order with the PTK and Sterling skunk on the way, wonder what freebies CSI might send with them? I may end up with a few more to plant. :smoke: :smoke: :smoke:

A little more info about the 'Sativa Candy Chunk' F12 cultivar:
1. (SFV OG Kush x Jamaican Jam) F1 2008 x DC)x DC ---- Jamaican Jam is (Jamaican Spear x Afghan) x DC (Hill Temple Collective)
2. (Bubba Kush x DC) F2 2007 x DC
3. (Bubba Kush x Bubblegum) x DC
4. Sour Bubble Bx3 x Sour Bubble bx 4 x DC

Hey Pipeline,
that’s a lovely looking stable for this year. I’ve lurked around some of those strains myself, for quite some time, so I’ll be very interested to see how they do.
I’ve got a photo of Schrews description and lineage of the Purple Sprite for you.
As I’ve mentioned, the only negative for this strain is that I’ve found it extremely difficult to sex and l found a single, spent male flower on it today whilst rubbing off internal, lateral growth.
The Blackdog does extremely well here and also does well in lower light conditions, this is a trait I’ve been encouraging within the line I’m working.
I’ve also included a photo of the sulphured plants. The ones in pots are starting to stretch out and with a decreased immune system the leaf spot disease, l get here, has been able to get a foot hold on these plants. It’s actually very interesting to observe because these plants are generally impervious to this pathogen and a great example of just how important plant health is at all stages of growth. I’m expecting these to get hit by some sort of insect soon……we’ll see what happens.
I always grow my vegetables in the garden. It not only gives me another line of defence against fury intruders but the ability to provide for myself and others. I call these “sentinel” plants because many times they have alerted me to a potential problem arising within the garden.
I think it’s a bit crazy to put all the energy, effort and money into building beautiful soil and not take full advantage of it. For me, l feel it keeps me balanced with my body taken care of with fresh, nutrient dense vegetables and my soul nurtured with the plants.
So far l haven’t had to water and most of the beds have been fertilised by top dressing, large amounts of composted cow manure over the top of weeds, that I allowed to grow from late summer and all through winter. I’ve also top dressed with about, 10kgs of gypsum, 8kgs of blood and bone and a bit over half a bucket of wood ash out of the fire.
You can’t scratch down anywhere, in any of the beds, without finding a worm. I call this wormageddon and it’s actually something I look forward to every year 🤗
I will be pushing the plants a bit harder, later in the month and Bradley Danks has given me some of his feeding strategies for optimal plant health and I’m hoping this will, to some extent, prevent the leaf spot disease from expressing later in the year when conditions become favourable.
Ohh yeah……..that was my child like attempt to show how festive l am and to bring a smile to a few faces over the holidays 🤗
Cheers,
40.

CSI hooks it up fat! His generosity definitely inspired me to kick down harder. Why not!! Spread the joy :) From CSI, I picked up some of the Loompa Headband x PCK and the Notsodogs LA Headband x Bubblegum to try this upcoming season. I copped 2 packs of each and got one free extra of each plus a headband x mendo purp freebie, looking to pheno hunt for that early flowering pheno type that crushes it outdoor up on 45th latitude. Wish me luck... Your gonna crush it this year with those!

Thanks BradlyDanks! I am looking forward to an amazing garden this year! I haven't had any other genetics for years so this is a real treat! CSI's kindness as well as a couple friends has made it really special!

Sounds like a great line. Yeah we need that early flowering type, weather can be really unpredictable sometimes. We had a freeze early October this year at 40N!

I saw on Ace Seeds PCK, goingrey was disappointed in it with a few plants with issues including a male sprouting pistils showing intersex tendency. CSI does large reproductions and has a lot of breeders respect and support. Glad I found out about them right when I was looking for DC.

Thats a sweet garden, 40! Companion planting has a lot of uses, and it probably keeps it from getting so hot.

Those sulfer burnt plants are just getting by, don't look like great producers, but you never know.

Sounds like a great fertilizer regimen! Have you had any issues with digging animals using bone/blood meal? Please share some of those fertilization strategies with us. Sounds like you let them veg with a regular rate for a little while, then when they start gearing up for flowering, kick the fertilizer up. Thats when mine when yellow last year and I was worried I might lose them. I put down a little guano and alfalfa and composted manure.

How deep do you spread the composted manure? A local landscape materials company sells good cow manure in bulk, also my neighbor has piles which I need to check out. So I was going to put down about 3 inches late June or early July when the males start showing and there's more room. You don't want to break the young plants trying to put down mulch and they aren't using as much nutrients.

Thanks for the Purple Sprite info. I always enjoyed watching those in Schrews' garden, he had some of the ancient OG growing nearby.

Looking great budsnblunts! Those are growing well and tufting out. Give them 2-3 weeks and they will start showing some character! Nice work! Are you having animal issues or anything or are they just thriving out there? Sounds like you guys are getting rain.

Looks like you taste tested the auto- flowers with the tops removed, how are they? What did you think?

I recently did some digging and discovered the true origins of my line. I had to go through previous threads and jog my memory a bit.

'Sativa Candy Chunk' F12
2010: Males used were the (OG Kush x Jamaican Jam) x DC) x DC

Females:

3. (Bubba Kush x Bubblegum) x DC
4. Sour Bubble Bx3 x Sour Bubble bx 4 x DC

Got some more Deep Chunk in with some other goodies to go along. Will be able to do a sizable Deep Chunk reproduction now! May find some special phenos! :smoke:

I was very blessed to be given so many good lines by CSI with this one! I got some awesome lines to play with! I was really wanting the '79 X-mas Bud! Its a really good indica and Tom Hill said it was a line he liked the effect, had more cerebral component.

Got them put away in the fridge for safe keeping and making contact with friends to see if anyone wants some cool stuff to grow!

Its time to overgrow now more than ever! Thinking about where I could squeeze in another plot, but I probably won't. For one thing I don't need any more medicine for myself, and it would also be better security wise just to have 1 plot.

Decisions....... Decisions..... Lets run them all! :smoke:

Added to the list are:

Pine Tar Kush IBL +5ct PTK freebie!
Sterling Skunk IBL
'79 X-Mas Bud IBL
Sour O's-- Sour Diesel x Obamas Kush (Fem)
Northern Lights 5000-- T-1000 x Northern Lights 5 (Fem)
Pinks N Purps F2 Lots #1-3
Flight Risk-- Humboldt's Most Wanted x Ruthless Runts (Fem)
Tropical Cherry x Pinks N Purps
Mendo Purps x Pinks N Purs
T-1000 x Pinks N Purps
G-1000 Gorilla Glue #4 x T-1000 (Fem)

Hey everyone,
Just thought I’d share a photo of the sulphured plants. It’s funny because they continued to grow even though the leaves were basically white 🤷‍♂️ These are in one little pots and just an experiment to see what happens to them, l might up pot them to use for seeds or put them in the garden. I’ve put 200mm Blackdog cuts in early January and still pulled half a kilo.
Anyway l topped the bottom one to see what would happen and they have both grown through the setback. The one l planted in the garden looks the same.
I top dress deep enough to kill the weeds underneath, probably 200mm or 2/3 of a foot. Things like dandelions will persist in shooting up leaves but will eventually die if you keep pulling them out.
As for the blood and bone it works the other way here and keeps fury intruders away, birds do scratch around underneath to get the worms which can lead to the untimely death of seedlings.
I see Bradley’s popped in so l might let him explain or hand out his IP. The big sativa leaner he gave me is six feet now and the other one’s only a couple of inches behind.
Cheers,
40.

Thats quite a bit of compost at 8 inch depth! The rule of thumb for mulch is around 3 inches so the roots still have the ability to breathe and get moisture from rains. I guess adding more helps kill the weeds though. If you just hoe them and put down 3-4 inches compost you would probably be good. Adding compost every month would be a good idea. But every time you do that, you may damage the plants. Doing the top dress a couple times a season may be beneficial though as the compost breaks down and is washed away.

Good to hear about the bone/ blood meal. I have shed away from it. May use it in the veggie garden. Thanks for sharing. Lets see how big they got! Its really dark here! Need to see green! :smoke:
