Interesting. Spliff lives in a unique part of Hawaii, I would expect his flowers to look different than most guys....heck, my clones I grow inside my greenhouse look totally different than the ones I grow outside of the gh. Wonder how long these guys have been selling trays of the knock offs for? My cut came from Maui about 10-12 years ago.

I started getting mine about 2 years ago. Don't get me wrong I like the trays of cuts. Holes to fill in my perpetual garden when I get behind. got appeal for sure. For what we get em for it is totally worth it. I will continue to scoop them up. Aloha boyz.

Kinda like Skunkdog vs what I like to refer to as erstaz Skunkdog. What? Never saw that word before? From German, it refers to a lesser quality substitute. For example, I am drinking a cup of coffee right this moment. If I was to brew up some carpet dirt, that could be called "erstaz coffee"

So maybe I can put some flesh on these bones. After all I was the guy that said "Hold on, this one ain't that one." Then everybody hangs their head and looks at me like I am the fool, which sure enough I am..... until it turns out that I'm right.

I won't bother you with what they do after this happens 10 or 15 times in a row, except to say the're starting to listen real good now.

To do this we gotta jump into the Wayback machine. Go back to 1995. Or thereabouts. Smoke as much weed as I do, time gets all fuzzy. Point is we just hopped into a whole different time, place and especially a different mindset.

There was NO medical marijuana. While in my book about 30% of the island smoked, if you got caught, more than once, you went to jail. If you grew it, big ugly trips could occur. Especially if you were a Haole. Back then it was all from seed, clones didn't yield near what a seed plant did.

You grew in a bubble. Nobody could know the extent of your trip. If you sold on island, it was always "someone else's product", and that was kinda dangerous, so off to the big city it went.

How much it would fetch when it got there was again, all about how good it was. If you were getting a good price, the last thing you would do was give out your strains to the competition, that was like giving them a club to beat you over your head with. So, you held everything tightly, shared nothing, and kept blazing your own path. Sounds greedy but it kept you alive.

Then the clones came. Dog, HP-13, then Skunkdog appeared.

At first, that precious product was NEVER sold. Every once in a greal long while somebody had this wonderful joint that was so distinctive the first think out of your mouth after you smoked it was "I gotta get this!" Should you have been so stupid to say those words aloud.... you could get pounded. You were never gonna get to the source of the precious so you just kept your mouth shut.... and enjoyed.

If you take but one lesson from this screed it should be this. Write this down.

Once you get that firmly stuck in your brain, things will go a lot easier. Trust me.....

One day, one glorious day, the guy gives you a small bud of the precious, tells you to roll a joint, and then there they were. Three seeds. This would be a good time to remember to keep that mouth shut. What he doesn't know about..... you palm them, then as soon as you get home, plant them. Now you have a kinda close copy of the precious. Not a copy, but in the same wheelhouse.

But while you can and do make seeds from her using random males as pop, the only way to keep a true copy of the precious is by clone. These are small yielders, so you too keep the precious just for personal stash. Sell nothing, best if that guy never finds out you swiped the keys to his kingdom.

Come 2000 the bubble pops. MMJ begins. The big Sativa money machines rapidly fall out of favor. The market wants quality, but the keep it to myself attitude remains. A wave of new strains, all from clone, roll ashore. They again, are tightly held.

Ok, we are done back there, last one out please power down the lights in the wayback machine. Fucker costs an arm and leg to run....

This could only last for so long. I hate to admit to it but one of us did it. And it started with the rubbish. Remember that? Dutch treat clones, fully infested with every type of Borg known to man, for sale on Craiglist? Nastyassed starts, but they sold. Then other strains. I got hit up long go. Bastard asks me to donate a Skunkdog clone for the "Medical Community". Medical community, my ass. More like his pocket. So I gave him the Skunkdog S1, called it Skunkdog and let him whore it out.

It could be that. But I doubt it. This is what I think happened. Both the erstaz Skunkdog and the real deal were the same plant a couple of decades ago. But the rarely happens, happened. The dude we all know that had these, gave one away. Maybe to his brother, my guess was it was in family. One copy stayed in Haiku where it lived in the Haikuy conditions. Grey got this version. The erstaz copy went somewhere else on the island, my guess is a dryer area, where it evolved differently than what we consider the real one. The Clonewhore dude got a copy of the erstaz and he promptly did his thing. Flooding the market with his nasty brokedick infected clones. I know for a fact that is where I got the last Borg I let loose in my room from.... then promptly shared them with Casper.

And it all matters not. I don't think any of you will disagree with the statement that Skunkdog evolves and changes depending on how, where, and who exactly is growing it. It matters not what version the Big Island got. With a decade or two their Skunkdog will look nothing like ours. Ours will be, like always, perfect, and theirs will always contain small lava chips......because we have dirt and they have..... big black rocks. See Kaboon, there is a reason why land is so cheap on the Big Island.... it's all still under construction. And believe me, the last place you want to live on is an island under construction.

And for the record I will not grow the erstaz Skunkdog. No reason to. It rots far more than the real deal, and flowers quicker so it doesn't yield as much.

Now, for something totally different. Who says we don't do trees anymore. My partner, that's him holding up the fence with his head, who lives deep in the past still does. What can I say, he's Portuguese, and we all know those fuckers ain't wired correctly. Even with all the rain we have been having, this is going pretty good. My Japaneese Hash plant got to 5 ft and was taken weeks ago. These three were planted at the same time, but he pushed his out with a simple droplight over them each night.

Aloha boyz,maybe can add some input?Grey,the cut I got from uncle,came from seperate family that has done things in house since before time,so seperate cut than family that sells trays.It is definitely in same dawg,dog,skunkdawg(dog).,family.can tell by pink hairs and thumb.Jus finished first one and it is slightly more pungent and tastier than our better skunkdog(dawg),but yields a little less,and has better overall structure,roots supah eazy as is norm for this family,and is mold resistant.
old Haole I remember when da kine tried to get you to donate the skunkdog for medical purposes..haha what a joke..
bes I can come up with is that as has been said,different things will grow different in different climates.I have been fortunate enough to see a whole long season of dog,from NorCal,that was entirely different from here'but was brought there from here.also have seen indoor dog,and skunkdawg,at same place,rock solid grade a..the thing is there is a sour kush mixed up in this whole thing,always was present,from 2000 when dog ruled Maui up until 2010 when disappeared.names are always changing ,crosses always crossed,and as long as each group who calls thier herbs skunkdog,dog,dawg,or skunkdawg are happy...who cares..it is easy to get caught up with all the hoopla...grow on my friends and please remember to share,as we all just want primo smoke

Thanks OH, Casper, Grey, Dirtboy etc for letting me live vicariously through you this summer. Watching your hard work and care grow awesome plants has been inspiring especially considering all the outside difficulties.

It's like living in fuckin' Florida with volcanoes. Every godamn day.

And that's been my late summer/fall (without the volcanoes, and luckily with no hurricanes) so far this year. Add in the wind from the sudden thunderstorms, the fucking grasshoppers that I've been at war with since they hatched in spring and all the other outside pests and getting anything started from seed has been a major challenge.

As you said OH, after many good years you should be prepared for one to suck and it looks like this is it. first batch of seed got drowned by the rain, #2 got mowed by grasshoppers, #3 was both and #4 is in pots but fighting to survive the heat, bugs and storms.

I'm popping more beans tomorrow and making arrangements to get them started under lights cause I've wasted way too much time so far letting mother nature fuck my shit up.

As I read the law. The max count per house is 14.
I can have 7 for me, and I'm a caregiver for 1 other.
But one patient and 1 caregiver rec. per address is the letter of the law.

I only have 6 girls at the moment because it's been one damn thing after another.
Fortunately, 6 plants is more than enough to meet my present medical needs, thanks to some incredibly good people.
