Abby's Bud Shack

Ms.Grat3ful - And here I thought it was just me who had problems with the thread title! Actually, I had the intention of doing a thread a year, hence Abby's Bud Shack 2004. But I soon learned that I use the thread as a tool to compare growth rates and plant formations, as well as tidbits of information that help me in my current grows, so it made sense to keep it all in one place and not spread out amongst multiple threads. But the kicker is... once your title is made, you can't edit it! So looks like I'm stuck in the past... I think it's a Microsoft thing. :D

Farmer John - Thanks, got a great bunch of gals this round, but they are starting to get real demanding! All I hear is "Feed Me Abby"! :biglaugh:

guineapig - So glad you enjoyed the Bud Jungle tour, we'll have another expedition in a couple of weeks when they start to get some color! :yummy:

I did miss one of the gals from Indica Wilds... here is a shot of the Lifesaver x Sour Bubble. She is now smelling like grape candy... absolutely mouth watering! This is one of my pet projects combining a beautiful BOG Lifesaver gal with a stud BOG Sour Bubble 1BX. This is another plant that could use a good topping in veg, as it's build is reminiscent of the Sour Bubble, but with a bit more outward, rather than upward branching.

:chin: That makes total sense Abby, never thought about it like that!! :D

yep, I know that, learned that the hard way!:biglaugh:

:woohoo:
Received a special surprise in the mail today, some wonderful little Wonder Diesel seeds courtesy of Dutchgrown and ICMAG. My "winnings" from the Pet Photo Contest are very much appreciated, and a big thank you to all for voting and participating in fun things like the many contests our hosts and seed companies provide. And of course, a really big Thank You to our hosts, Dutch and Gypsy for providing us all a secure place where we can all express our ideas and creativity without fear of persecution.

BMR @ 28 Days Flower

Wow, these seeds got here so fast I couldn't believe it when I received the mail... you folks rock! :D This will be my first attempt at any type of Diesel, and should be a perfect compliment to Wallyduck's Pine Orange and c99 x blueberry that I had scheduled for the next round. The problem is I need to wait for a good veg light, as both of my big lights are being used in flower. I've been looking at the T5 HO lights for awhile, and based upon conversations as well as seeing one first hand at the Hydro store, I've made up my mind to get one. As Crazy Composer had remarked, the light penetration was incredible, and after seeing one first hand, I agree 100%. There were no shadows present anywhere on the plants, just a total envelope of light. Add to that the low power consumption and low heat output... sounds like a no brainer to me. Only drawback is the price, they ain't cheap folks! The local horticulture store wants way too much money, so I'll be cruising the net looking for the best deal on a 4' eight light system. Soon as I get it setup, we'll start Grow 8, a Down Under Diesel Run!

Grow 7 is now in full swing with a noticeable increase in resin production on almost every plant. It is now Day 28, and the girls have been in flower now for exactly 4 weeks, and we are now at what I would estimate to be the midpoint of the grow. One thing is for sure, I never want to do this many plants again, they just take up too much room!

The Flower Room is a Jungle, and the branches are all getting heavy with buds. Resin production has increased along with the formation of colas as the buds begin to mass together. A perfect example of a new cola forming is this scary looking Monster Bubble below, rising up like some huge beast from the depths of Bud Jungle.

The Monster Bubble is fast turning into a 4' walking stick of Sour Bubble buds, I can't wait for this baby to start beefing out. I have three of these gals, and they all exhibit the same characteristics. Can you imagine if I had topped them, and had multiple colas of these:

Of course I do have topped plants, and a perfect example is the beautiful Blue Moon Rocks below:

BOG was right when he said I would like the BMR, and even though I only have one female, her yield is going to be massive, and if the closeup below is any indication, she should be a frosty treat as well:

The Lifesaver x Sour Bubble is coming along nicely, and smells exactly like a grape Now and Later candy. She seems to be a plant poised on the edge, she's just not quite ready to explode with growth. But she's close, as the picture below taken yesterday shows:

The Big Cindy #2 is looking more like the mom c99 every day, with the fluffy "cotton ball" buds giving way to a more colorful and robust c99 shape.

Big Cindy #1 also looks very much like her mom c99, but the bud shape is slightly different with a more erect shape and less pistil length than Big Cindy #2:

Last, but certainly not least is the Big Sour, it's colas filling in nicely!

So many plants, so little time! :yoinks:

Abby

PS. Thanks Ms.Grat3ful, the gals and I always enjoy your visits. One of these days I'll have to do a run of some Head seeds in the Shack! :yummy:

Those t5 lights look damm good for the wattage

HIGH ABBY always a great show - I always :lurk:

Grow 8 sounds to be shaping up

Tek-Light T5 High Output Fluorescent

Plant Grow Lights

These new high output fluorescent lamps have an extremely high lumen per watt rating compared to standard fluorescent bulbs, making them extremely suitable for indoor cultivation purposes. Each 54 watt, 48 inch long, high output fluorescent bulb produces 5000 lumens, or 92.59 lumens produced per watt of energy consumed. By comparison, a standard 40 watt, F40 cool white lamp produces a mere 1260 watts, or 31.5 lumens per watt.

High output fluorescent lamps have a very low heat factor which allows the fixture to be hung extremely close to plant canopy, thus increasing usable light levels. The TEK-LIGHT(tm)'s exclusive 9-bend reflector is made of imported German 95% reflective aluminum to drive every available lumen of light to your plants. Light output is 300% higher in this high-tech reflector compared to cheap fluorescent fixtures.

Measuring a mere 2.5 inches deep, the awesome Tek-Light High Output Fluorescent fixtures are extremely low profile, sleek and light to hang. Especially suited for growing areas where vertical space is restricted.

State-of-the-art, solid state electronic ballasts have no copper windings and do not emit heat, noise or vibration. This unique design places ballasts outside lamps (instead of above lamps as in competitive fixtures) for longer fixture life.

Features include a backlit ON/OFF switch, chrome V hangers and 4 eye bolts. Optional Sun Lifts Adjustable Cable hanging systems (available below) are easy to install and allow for convenient vertical adjustments for all Tek Lights. 2 year rebuild or replace factory warranty on fixture. 1 year warranty against failure on lamps.

Tek-Lights are available in 4 lamp configurations and will accept your choice of daylight (cool) 6500K lamps; warm 3000K lamps; or a combination of the two. High output fluorescent tubes are not included in the fixture price and should be purchased separately below fixtures.

Tek-Light T5-42 holds two tubes and produces 10,000 initial lumens. This unit measures 48.0 inches long by 9.0 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall.

Tek-Light T5-44 holds four tubes and produces 20,000 initial lumens. This unit measures 48.0 inches long by 11.0 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall.

Tek-Light T5-46 holds six tubes and produces 30,000 initial lumens. This unit measures 48.0 inches long by 15.0 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall.

Tek-Light T5-48 holds eight tubes and produces 40,000 initial lumens This unit measures 48.0 inches long by 19.0 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall.

A new lens...

A new lens...

I blame Dutchgrown! I had just finished complimenting her about fun things like site contests late last night, when I stopped by the Contest forum and what do you know... there's another contest! A seed photo contest, and you all know if theres a challenge to be had taking pictures, I want in on it! :D

Only problem is, seeds are damn small things, and you need to have the right outfit to get upclose and personal to such a wee little thing as a seed. I've never done much in the way of macro photography, and I certainly didn't have the right lens, so of course I just had to go down to the camera shop and buy one. My wallet thanks you Dutch, looks like I'll be eating soup for the next month or two! :biglaugh:

Since I have never done macro work, I'm sure it will take me a bit to get the handle on it, but here's some of my first attempts with the new 60mm 2.8 macro lens. Hope you like them...

Monster Bubble @ 29 Days Flower

Sour Gum #1 @ 29 Days Flower

Big Cindy @ 29 Days Flower

Sour Gum #2 @ 29 Days Flower

Blue Moon Rocks @ 29 Days Flower

A quick shout out to recent visitors

SmokeyPufmaster - Thanks Smokey for stopping by! Between the new light and lens things better keep rolling, this hobby is getting expensive!

No Where-Man - Thanks for the info. Unless someone can tell me a valid reason why the Tek 5 lights are about $100 more than the competitors I'll probably go with a Sunmaster or something similiar.

The HighLander - Greetings, and thanks for stopping by!

Time for a little BBQ and then work on some seed pictures.

Ya'll have a great day!

Flower Day 32

Flower Day 32

The plants are all packing on the weight now, and are using almost a gallon of water each per day. I hand water each of my girls, and use gallon milk jugs to tote the water around. It can be a pain in the old keester, but it does give each of the plants the personal attention they deserve. Only problem now is they have gotten so big there is no room to move, and the branches are getting too heavy with buds to move them around much anymore. Oh... the burdens of growing big plants! :D

One thing I have learned from this run... I will not have as many plants in flower next round. I think 9 or 10 is more than enough... 15 is just too many! :bat:

It's now day 32 of flower mode, and the buds are really fattening nicely and are increasing production of trichomes. Let's take a quick tour of the Jungle shall we?

Blue Moon Rocks @ 32 Days Flower

Master BOG was right, I do like his BMR... alot! She is frosting up nicely, and the colas just seem to stretch on forever. She is a bit leafy, but as the next picture will show... who cares! Even the leaves are covered with trichs:

Blue Moon Rocks @ 32 Days Flower

Right next to the BMR is the Lifesaver x Sour Bubble cross, and she is just now starting to come into her own. This plant is my favorite as far as fragrance, she smells just like grape candy. Her buds are a bit more sativa dominant, which means she has a better calyx to leaf ratio than the BMR. Here's a couple of closeups:

Lifesaver x Sour Bubble @ 32 Days Flower

Next up is the Big Sour cross done by my friend Weeweeman. She doesn't look anything like her Sour Bubble daddy, and she has a great cola structure. See for yourself:

Big Sour @ 32 Days Flower

Another cross done by Weeweeman is the Sour Gum, a Bubblegum x Sour Bubble mix. I have 3 of these gals and while there is some slight variation between them, they all are frosting up nicely. Here's an example:

Sour Gum @ 32 Days Flower

One cross I am particularly excited about is my own Monster Bubble, a Jock Horror x Sour Bubble mix that is just plain scary! Imagine if you will... a Sour Bubble with better yield. That's scary alright! So... do you want to see something really scary?

Monster Bubble @ 32 Days Flower

Okay if there are any small children or people with a weak heart... please leave the room. Here's a closeup:

Monster Bubble @ 32 Days Flower

Last up tonight is another cross I am excited about, the Big Cindy. Both of the gals are just plain huge, towering over the other plants at over 7' tall. So we'll finish our little tour with a few random shot of the Big Cindy:

Big Cindy @ 32 Days Flower

A shout out to our visitors:

Crazy Composer - :biglaugh:

Father Time - Thanks for stopping by... some good looking bud you have there! :yummy:

IckySticky - Congrats on your lens, it's a good one for sure! Nice pic of the dog, clear and sharp. Now go shoot some buds!

Stay tuned for more, same plant time... same plant channel!

Thanks Southern,
Things are happening fast now, everytime I walk into the Flower Room it's like a new place! Starting to see some more hints of color as the buds increase their trichomes and size. I am indeed a happy guy! :yummy:

Abby, your work is excellent! Nice to see my strains and crosses made with my strains looking so nice. Sour Bubble does make fine breeding stock doesn't it?

I would hire you for BOG Seeds but I assume you already have job. The combination of genetic knowledge, appreciation of cannabis, growing skills and photographic capabilities are daunting. Abby reminds me of myself but better. BOG

Greetings Friends!

I would first like to say Thank You to all of the visitors I've had here at the Bud Shack, and especially for all of the kind words you have had to say. It's hard to believe that this Bud Shack thread is almost one year old, it seems like only yesterday that I joined this great site. I am truly humbled to have been recently recognized as ICMAG's Photography Guru, and while I am not sure if I am worthy of such recognition, like any artist I am thrilled that some of you appreciate my work. So once again, a big and hearty Thank You to all of you in ICMAG land!

It all starts with a seed. Without them there would be no plants, no cuttings, no buds. But if you haven't grown anything for over 15 years, where do you start? That was the question I asked myself about a year and a half ago, before I learned about seed banks and boutiques. Fortunately, I had a friend to help guide me and give me helpful hints. He would show me pictures of his plants, and tell me about his grow, and quite honestly, he is the one who got me excited enough to give it a try. He sent me seeds to start, and the rest... well here we are now. So I want to give an extra special Thank You to the friend I have never met, Weeweeman. Thank you my friend, for without you I would not be "here" today!

That's how I got started in this little hobby. I was recently divorced and facing middle age, so I needed something to fill a void, and this is what I found. Crazy isn't it? I had not smoked weed for over 8 years, and the last time I had grown a plant was at least 15 years back. So really, this is still all new to me, and I learn new things every day. That's what is so great about places like ICMAG, the ability to share your experiences with other people who won't think your a criminal or some kind of drug addict. If I'm addicted to anything, it's taking pictures. The cannabis plant is truly a beautiful gift from God, and I can only pray for the day when the archaic laws governing this wonderful plant are repealed and common sense prevails.

The previous two pictures were taken from my first grow, and are of the Heaven's Horn. I saw the pics as I was reminiscing through photos of my first grow, and they had a very "October" feel to them, so I thought I would share them with you. While going through the images, I found photos of my Big Cindy's parents. I really, really like how the Big Cindy turned out, so I thought you might like to "Meet the Parents".

This is Mario, a male Bubblegum x BC Big Bud compliments of Weeweeman. As you can see he was a big and beautiful plant, and I used him in several crosses with the Heaven's Horn and c99.

Here's Phyllis, the mother c99 of all my c99 crosses. She started as a tiny little white seed I never thought would pop, and while she started as a runt, she soon blossomed to a bushy, bud laden, pineapple fragrant babe.

Enough history for tonight, time to greet the visitors and go work on some other things. Just never enough time in the day anymore! :D

Fire - Yes sir, almost a year and still growin' and showin'... thanks for stopping by!

OHenry - Thanks Buddy... it's getting there. I'm just hoping for some colors this round!

BushyOldGrower - Master BOG, as always my Shack is yours. Thank you for the very kind words, but I've always said it is not me, but the plants. And yes, your Sour Bubble makes a very fine breeding stock, as I think any of your genetics would be. The BMR I am growing now looks fantastic, but I would recommend to anyone that wants to get the best possible yield from your strains is to top them and veg longer. While that is of course true for any plant, it seems to be especially true for yours. And who wouldn't want to have as much BOG BUD as they can get?

As for the rest of your message, you really need to stop smoking that Sour Bubble hash when typing, I think you have me confused with someone else. I'm just a pimple on an elephants ass when it comes to the knowledge that folks like you and WallyDuck, and Rezdog and all the other fine growers and breeders here have. I'm certainly no expert, but I thank you very much for your wonderful words of inspiration, it means more than you can imagine.

Well folks, time to get back to real life, but before I go I smoke a bowl to all of you!

Abby
