Abby's Bud Shack

Hey Gang,
Here's a little closeup of a hanging Sour Bubble bud that decided to pop out a male flower. The Sour Bubble 1BX appears to have a tendency to pop out a few male flowers late in the flowering period, as the same thing happened to a buddy I shared the original batch of seeds with. I don't consider this to be a negative, as it is only one or two male flowers per plant. You don't need a closeup shot to see the heavy trichome development, it is definitely covered with resin!

A special shout out to zeppelindood and Pound4Pound - thanks for stopping by!

Thanks strain_searcher and immortal, the Sour Bubble 1BX was a pleasure to grow, but to be honest, it didn't live up to my expectations. In my case, it was the lowest yielder of all the bogs, I wound up with 3 ounces of buds from my gal, which was less than I got from a Super Sweet Cindy half her size. To make the Sour Bubble produce better, it really must be topped and trained heavily, and I have a friend who is experimenting with an sb scrog (screen grow). It's a good smoke and packs a fair punch with both mind and body affected, but to me, it does not live up to it's hype.

Instead, I like the Lifesaver and Super Sweet Cindy BOG strains much better, with my personal favorite being the Super Sweet Cindy. Some of you may be aware that I am a cindy fan, and have 2 c99 F2 clones still from my original grow that I am about to place into flower because, quite frankly, I don't need them anymore. I have three Super Sweet Cindy clones that will replace them nicely. Now why would I do that? Well, they say a picture sometimes tells the story better than words...

Mmmmmmm... tasty, and she smells like oranges... a very citrus fragrance. Here, take a closer look at the baseball sized bud mass of her main cola:

She's ready for harvest, and so is the last Lifesaver, which will bring to a close the BOG grow. Next up is an interesting mix of plants and methods. I am currently training a very tall SSH in a scrog style grow, one plant under a 1000W screen. Should be very interesting! Currently in flower under the light rail are some White Rhino. AK47xSSH, Flo, and Blue Moonshine, courtesy of my good friend Weeweeman from OG. In veg are some Soma Lavender, courtesy of Sunnyside, and they will be the next to flower here in the Bud Shack.

Greetings ilcstoning - Thanks for dropping by and for the nice words. I'm humbled that you would think I am a pro, but really People like Wallyduck, BOG and Rezdog are the pros, I'm just an old fart who likes to take pictures and just happened to develop a little gardening hobby to ease my mid life crisis. I have my own way of doing things, and some of the things I do most people wouldn't. For example, I use soil, and have been using the same soil grow after grow. Yes, I'm a soil reuser... and I do not sterilize between uses, I just make sure to pull out any roots, but that's it. I will start off my seedlings in a fresh container of Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil, and then will transplant into the reused soil. I use Fox Farms Grow Big and Superthrive during veg, and a combination of Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom, and Monster Bloom during flower. The main ferts for my grows are Grow Big and Tiger Bloom, and I normally feed at every watering, except for the last 2 weeks.

I do have healthy plants, and I'm very sorry they don't turn yellow and lose their leaves.Take for example my natural Lifesaver in the pic above, she's a really pretty girl and a pleasure to photograph. Her trichs are all cloudy with some amber color. She's ready for harvest, yet there is not a yellow leaf on her. Should there be?

I don't think there has to be, I don't know of anyone that goes out to flush the orange crop, or the tomatos, hey... I better go flush my corn field before harvest! Sounds kind of silly to me. Okay, I hear some of you say, "but you don't smoke tomatos!" True enough, but when was the last time you heard of someone flushing their tobacco field? Flushing is a hydro term that somehow people have adapted into their soil grows, and basically it means to wash away all nutrients in the soil. Some folks will takes their pots and run enough water through them to "flush" away any remaining nutrients in the soil, thus starving the plant. Makes perfect sense for a hydro grower who has been using some witches brew of chemicals, but not much sense for old dirt farmers like myself.

As for how I learned to grow, well, I did a little in my youth, but back then it was outdoors and very simple. Last year I started growing for the first time in over 15 years, and learned alot by reading internet forums. My good friend Weeweeman pointed me to the Overgrow site and I read all of the Grow Faq's at least twice. It was a good starting point, but I always found that experience is the best teacher, and I have developed my own style of growing since. The important thing to remember is what may work for "person A", may not work as well for "person B". You'll find there is a lot of bullshit in the forum fields, and sometimes it is hard to seperate the fact from fiction. I find no merit whatsoever in keeping your plants in total darkness for 48 hours, but some people swear it's the best thing to do before harvest.

Talk about rambling posts... time to end this one. Got some more harvesting to do! The Bog total so far for you weight junkies is 14 ounces from 3 plants with two big gals left to go. I anticipate about 1.5 pounds total from the 5 Bog's, grown under a 1000W HPS rail. We'll see how close I get...

Sorry ilcstoning, didn't want you to think that was directed at you as it was really just a general rant. Yes, I do tend to use sarcasm, especially when I get a buzz going! Thanks for stopping by and drop in anytime...

Hope you didn't take my post as a criticism Abby, I have much respect for you and your results speak for themselves. I was just speaking from personal experience. Like you I grow in soil organically, and I try to create a more natural enviroment. Never gone for bud boosters and the like, seems more like treating mj like a machine or hacking a computer, not growing a plant. But knowing cannabis is an annual and that, with a few exceptions, it normally dies after seed production, the yellowing of leaves etc to me is natural. I guess using the word flush was a mistake. I was refering to the last two or more weeks when you use plain water. Not to try to leach out any nutrients or salts, but because the plant is finishing up and no longer needs feeding.

Anyways, I'm sure your system works great for you and that's some killer smoke you've got. As always, I'm looking forward to your next post.

Cheers!

Greetings Friends,
It's been a busy week here at the Bud Shack, and the last of the BOG's have been harvested and dried. As I'm sure you have guessed, I have a few more harvest pics of the last Super Sweet Cindy and Lifesaver, I think you will enjoy them. :yummy:

Before we get going just a quick shout out to:

Fredster - Actually I do sleep, but normally late at night is the only time I have to try and make a post. I barely have time anymore for the plants, but I do enjoy the hobby, and sharing my modest work with all of you. Thanks for the kind words, I learned a long time ago that "honesty is the best policy", and you can always expect me to be very fair and impartial in any growing report I may give.

Hey Rolando - No worries my friend, I thought you brought up a very good point and was happy to elaborate upon the subject. Sorry if you got the wrong impression, none of my prior comments were directed at you.

GMT - Thanks for stopping by, glad you're enjoying the show!

ilcstoning - Unfortunately, the Overgrow site has become so slow that I have no time to sit and wait for it, and ICMAG is much faster and has a better photo gallery... so I do tend to post here most of the time. I'm not sure if Weeweeman has an account, but I know he reads my ICMAG posts. This is really my only active thread here, Lord knows I don't have time for more right now!

The BOG harvest went very well, and I was quite impressed with the quality of each of the different strains. My favorite BOG is the Super Sweet Cindy, it is some of the most powerful one hit wonder weed I have ever had the pleasure to smoke.

The Lifesaver was a sparkly treasure that smelled nothing like Lifesavers, unless you count the peppermint variety. The Lifesaver falls in the middle ground of my BOG grow, not as powerful as the Cindy but a very good smoke and a good yielding plant when left in natural form, and a great yielder when topped.

The Lifesaver produces a thick and hearty bud, not as leafy as the Sour Bubble, but with a heavier leaf makeup than the Cindy. However, the leaves are coated with a thick layer of trichomes, so you don't want to trim them too close.

I'm out of time for this post... but stay tuned for more happenings at the Bud Shack, the SSH, Flo, BMS, WR, AK47xSSH, c99, and PPP are all in flower and have started budding. The SSH is an experimental horizontal grow, as I never had time to build a screen but have the plant trained to an almost 90 degree angle. She is about 6' tall, and takes up the entire closet. It's a one plant, 1000W horizontal grow... going to be cool to see how it yields! Right behind these I have the Soma Lavender and some Super Sweet Cindy clones. Here's a parting shot of the Lifesaver at 9 weeks.

Until next time,
Abby

Howdy Folks... Still remember me? I know it's been a while but recently I discovered there is this thing called "real life" that unfortunately, sometimes gets in the way of just plain having fun. I was recently offered a job that was too good to pass up, and that has kept me so busy I have had little time for plants, and no time for postings or pictures. But that doesn't mean I don't love ya all, so I finally had a little time to take some new pics, clean out my gallery so I could upload them (can't believe I ran out of room), and take a moment to write and say HELLO ICMAG!

Greetings to immortal, sackoweed, and ilcstoning for stopping by while I was away, and here's a few pics for the addicted!

The pic above is a little peek into the flower room, my own little private forest. Back left is Blue Moonshine, back middle is White Rhino, back right is AK47xSSH, the leaning plant in the middle left is the Flo, to the right of that is the PPP, the big leaf on the front left belongs to another White Rhino, and to the right of that is a c99. Okay, it's a little jungle in there, but I haven't had the time to spend with my gals as I would like.

For example, take a look at my poor Flo in this picture. You might notice some yellow on the leaves, the result of her getting too close to the light and getting singed a bit, which is basically why I had to lean her over. I let several of my gals get too tall, like the bms and AK47xssh which you can see are in the very back as they are too tall to fit under the light. It's the old "I was going to do this or that", but just never got to it until it was too late.

I finally decided to clean out my veg chamber, as the Soma needed the space, so I placed my last c99 and PPP clones/moms into flower. Here's a little pic of a budding PPP below:

The WR is my favorite plant of this grow as far as build and makeup, the Flo is my favorite as far as smell during flower. I really like the bud structure of the WR, and I have pollinated both of my WR gals with a male WR, so expect to see them again sometime in the future. Here's a little shot of a WR bud, roughly at about 30 days.

Last but not least, I have a little pic of some SSH, from my horizontal grow. Unfortunately, I totally fubared this poor gal, and she is hurting badly having been burned and perhaps a bit over fertilized as well. This was a difficult plant to grow, and I learned a few lessons from her as she is almost full sativa in size and structure. The biggest lesson I learned from this current grow is horizontal growth has great yield potential, and for the next grow with the soma and sc99 I will be doing both a horizontal and natural grow. For those of you perhaps not fully understanding what I mean by horizontal, think of it as a poor man's screen without the screen, I just tie her top down and get her to bend at an almost horizontal angle. Ohhhh... almost forgot, here's that SSH budshot:

I've got about two weeks left before harvesting the first round of plants, and then the Soma so thoughtfully provided by sunnyside will go into flower, along with some clones I had made of BOG's Super Sweet Cindy. Before I forget, I did have a chance to ask the BOG Master about the "super" part of the Super Sweet Cindy. He told me that basically there is no "Super" Sweet Cindy, although for the past few years he has been crossing his Sweet Cindy back to a Bogglegum, and that he just wrote Super on my seeds because it's a very underrated strain. Mr. Bog, I agree that not only is your Sweet Cindy underrated, but it sure is mighty Super in my book!

And on a closing note, now that the Bogs have cured a bit, I do find myself reaching more often into the Sour Bubble bag than into the others. As a matter of fact, I think it's time for a little SB bowl right now...

Until next time!
Abby

PS. A very BIG thank you to my friend Weeweeman for providing me with the seeds from which all of the plants were grown. He's the one who got me started in all of this, and while we have never met, he is indeed my best friend in weed!

Greeting Rolando and ilcstoning,
I have been away for quite some time, thanks for stopping by the shack to say hello. While real life keeps me almost too busy to maintain my garden, I somehow find time to keep a few plants going. Currently I have some Soma Lavender (seeds courtesy of sunnyside) and some BOG sc99 clones (original seeds courtesy of BOG) in flower, and am now contemplating what to start next. I have lots of my own crosses I want to try, and just recently crossed the sc99 and soma lavender which should make for an interesting future project.

I thought you all might like to see a few pics of my last girls at harvest, they were some real pretty young ladies. So without further ado... here's some eye candy for ya!
