New Killer Malawi mother, growing outdoors organically in a pot, finishing the stretching and starting the flowering.

The plant looks really nice Dubi. I'd love to be able to do an outdoor run with these plants. II just took my tent grow down yesterday. I did a really crappy job and two of the plants still ended up with what look to me to be huge colas. A little on the airy side but i gather that how they go.

Here's my pics after a wet trim of the larger leaves:

my #5 cut, the longer one is 32 inches from the tip to the lower bits of flower

picture.php

in other words, from groin to the floor, :

picture.php

My # 2 cut, much branchier heads and it was leafier too. It also had a lot of heat damage to the leaves from being within inches of the light.

picture.php

this one was by far the sturdiest of the five seeds I ran. The stems up top were as thick as they were a foot from the soil. and they still flopped over from the weight of the heads.

I ended up having to put up another trellis level since once they heads started to fill in, they all began laying over sideways. I had to put up the PC frame and then hand string a net in and around the branches and heads since the heads were already at the level of the light. The last, highest trellis was at 70 inches (175 cm i think).

Taking the plants down, I felt just awful. There was so much scorching and drying of the leaves. The flowering sections had minimal damage though, just the leaves for the most part. Once I did the wet trim, the branches looked almost normal. The heat had to have an effect on the quality but we'll see how they do when they've had a chance to dry and cure.

fwiw, the other three phenos were the airiest and had the least like-able structure. I'll probably take them straight to hash or cannabutter. They won't be worth the effort to trim given their thin flowering. I attribute that to my poor technique, not the genetics. can't wait to give them another run with the knowledge I have now

Anyways, I tend to blabber on and on. I just wanted to show what I ended up with. Thank to everyone for their support and kind words.

Dubi, you and the ACE team are amazing. Thank you again.

Lovely Plant Malawi. Just harvested mine and am loving her intense aromas from Afreeka. Mmm Smells homely when I burnt this sample bud in a spliff and even this fresh she gave me cause to pause. I reached half way down my spliff and found myself in deep deep meditations but savoring the herbs aromatic profile being new to my palate which had been enjoying Panama until this Malawi sample. The resiny spicy punch that greets your nostrils as you start chop her to build a spliff or load a chalice cup, that smell is so distinctly Afreekan and it makes my senses feel happy and comfortable. The smoke was surprisingly floral still and same time resinous causing coughing..Plus sample was young. Having said this , the creep creep creeper effect steps in with this and suddenly my body feels like it is being held by a warm cozy glow all around. Nice buzzed feeling. The cerebral side sparks conversations and reminiscing vibes. After the cerebral comes the body stone and sleepy vibez or full on munchies attack!
Yep Malawi is another great strain I am glad I got and have even cloned this one twice now so get to continue enjoying her.
Thank you Ace Seeds, Malawi is a winner.

In keeping wid Afreekan traditions I had fi roll a likkle cob. Found it hard to get da maize/corn on the cob up until just before mi harvest , so I took it as a sign fi twist one up. Also useful to note putting da cob leaves from the fresh maize/corn into a ziplock and freezing keeps them well. So if you are like mi now in a land where da crops not always about, give freezing dem cob leaves a go.
Had a sneaky taster this morning on my chalice and previous early smokes had mi wondering dat mi had harvested a bit early. Now today she start speak to mi like da Malawi mi know from my youth. He heh! Creeper to raspberry!!!! Whoa yeah! Rising nicely and telling mi fi nah plan fi do much inna this time n space as she creepers higher n higher. Yes, nice DEEP meditations!!! Not dat racy trippy like mi Empress Zamaldelica who mi soon will regrow a 3rd time from da first mother plant I grow at da start of da year. Yes Malawi is a rootsy one... Great wid morning coffee and some good Dub music playing. Blessed Love to each and all. This is an upful herb and a rootsman herb dat keep ya pon the levels. Firm meditation and good duration of effect. Smooth too, not one fi make you hack a lung up coughing wid. This one smooth even when young. Highly recommend trying a cob alongside ya regular drying and curing methods.
Thank You Again Ace Seeds you putting a big smile pon mi face and added another great strain to the list I recommend peeople go try growing demselves too. Wonderful herbs.
Happy growing!!

What was the total flowering time?

I took 14wks and had smokeable sample at 12. Now the cure is needed.
If you run from clone it would be easier to stabalize your harvest time window. Also method of growing. I use coco here but my friend is in DWC and has his grow currently going on this site if you are growing that way too. Lots of info here just take yourself a day or three and read the threads from start to close as many gems are found therein. Happy growing!

Inspiring looking buds all around, literally breathtaking.

Claude Hopper - that looks absolutely primo; dense little pyramids of bud atop bigger spears, nice!

ULMW-killer cob, man. Loved reading the real-time smoke report;) Have you tried eating a bit?

Looking at these great pics of buds, it's clear I need to up my game. Those are some really nice flowers.

As I expected, once the plants I harvested had a chance to dry a bit, the colas looked far less impressive. Mine were pretty loose and airy and didn't have the calyceal swelling you guys have in the pics above. Unfortunately, I underestimated how quickly they would dry given their lack of density. By day four after cutting, they were almost crispy. I did a final trim and the yield was not god awful but it was pretty depressing in honesty: a total of 225 g from the two plants that had trim-able heads. That would be ok but having let them dry out too much, I'm afraid the quality will be off quite a bit. It a lesson learned, many lessons really. i know they're supposed to get a long cure, if possible, but I've read if the RH stays below 55%, the cure is not going to go anywhere. After the first day in the jars, I was getting 48%. Doh.

Greetings Onavelzy,
Congrats on your harvest and for feeling so much for your beloved plants. You sound a caring gardener and just had a minor set back with the drying.
I dunno if you have Boveda 62% packs that you could try to balance what you do have with some humidity.
I also had the too dry times and since then chose to dry a bit quicker then place in a brown bag to sweat them before into jars to cure.
Still I managed to salvage my over dry herb by making dry sift hash with it and oil too.
Wishing you a good day and Happy Growing!

Hi onavelzy,

I'm very sorry to hear your Malawi grow has not been a successful cycle at all :(

Honestly, i think your Malawis have been harvested too early, or at least they have not been developed to their full potential. I think they have lacked of the light intensity and time to develop fully their flowers and qualities in late flowering.

Please pm me or email us and i will recommend you other strains that are probably more suitable for you, i'm willing to send you the seeds for free, i really want you to have a happy experience in your next grow. :huggg:

Thanks to you ULMW ;)

I'm glad our Malawi is providing you strong african sativa experiences and that she brings you nice memories from Africa :)
The flowering time of your Malawi fem was not that long, right ?

The cob is looking dangerous :D Looks like Tangwena's cob style is gaining adepts day after day!

Excellent job and excellent outcome Claude Hopper! ;)
Your Malawi looks indeed killer! It has the yield, flower/leaf ratio, resin production and size of trichomes we were looking for when refining this african sativa.

Please, let us know your opinion after the drying and a bit of curing

Dubi, Thank you for that kind offer.

It will seem a little weird, but I have had a very happy experience. I knew my environmental limitations going in but I wanted to experience growing those kinds of plants. I grew the free seeds that you provided with my order for that very reason. I have several packs of other seeds lines that I feel better prepared to try now.

To avoid the vigorous growth into the light, I could have opted to do intense supercropping or mainlining but I wanted to learn how they grew. My real mistake was in trying to grow a "normal" strain at the same time as these. That, and not anticipating the rapid drying after cutdown.

There's no doubt at least four of them were taken too early. I figured the impact of the height and the heat meant they would never really make it to their full potential. They may have filled in quite a bit with another month or so but I chose to end that session and move to the next.

I feel it was a happy growing experience because I learned so much. I truly wish I could attempt them outdoors this Spring. I'm working on those "negotiations" right now.

Thank you once again for your one-of-a-kind professionalism and continued involvement with your customers.

Anyone else have issues with powdery mildew. Funny the seed plant didnt have it but this one does. Never had a plant have it b4. Got some more clones that havent rootrd yet but they dont show ant signs of PM. Its the first and only seed of malawi fem that i germed. Its the rotten fruity fast pheno. If these round of clones ends up with PM ill just germ another and hope it has greater resistance. Also gotta bleach the place down
