For true cobbing you need to compress harder than a vacuum sealer can get. There can be literally no air in the cob. You can use any leaf, corn, banana, even bamboo. Just load it with bud no stem, then roll it up like a blunt and tie it very tight, wrapping with twine or jute. You don't have to bury it, but try to keep it away from fresh air, it's the anaerobic bacteria that will keep it from molding and provide the cure . So if you don't bury it in sand (I used a Rubbermaid bin full of playground sand), at least vacuum seal the cobs
