A Taste of Africa from Malawi

Hi All, I've been lurking around the ACE threads for some time. Doing a second grow of some Kali Mist at the moment, which is the nicest herb I've grown. I just bought a 10 pack of Panama, and a 5 pack each of Zamaldelica, Tikal and Purple Haze Thai. Really looking forward to growing these. Panama will be first I think, as it will complement the energetic buzz of the Kali nicely. I got some African Buzz by Seedsman as freebies and was wondering if anyone here can compare them with ACE Malawi and tell me if they are worth spending the time growing out. I will definitely get ACE Malawi in the future but passed it up for the Zamal this time.

Welcome Boss Cocky,

Thank you very much for supporting our work, hope you find complementary sativa experiences with our strains, please keep us updated when you start them, meanwhile enjoy with Kali Mist, it's an outstanding strain.

I was super careful when I sprayed not to get the buds and it was only 6 weeks in with an expected 6+ weeks to go. When I use neem I notice the smell on the plants for a week or so and not much longer so I asume it is mostly broken down after that; but I never spray with less then 6 weeks to harvest.

Also each plant is still going at its own pace so it looks a little more natural then I would expect a big shock to look like. It's kindof funny, the most amber plant is the one I soaked the most because she had less developed buds. It probly played a role but I don't think it was the main factor.

Should I feed a little and hope for more clear trichs, white hairs and 4 more weeks of development?

Hi ValleyKush,

I wouldn't spray with neem over developed flowers unless is completely necessary, it can affect the taste and can burn the pistils as you have experienced and stop the flowering a lot ...

Regarding your first question in your previous post, i would start to count the flowering time when the first pistils appear. There are Malawi early flowering phenos, but Malawi rarely finishes before 10 weeks of flowering, it can start strongly but it's a sativa and will re flower in the second part of flowering. Flowering time could vary a lot with sativas, depending on the growing variables, if you share some pics maybe we can help you with more detail.

Hey dubi or whoever else has experience with malawi, I need some advice.

I had some hfh semi-autos in my tent this spring flowering while my malawis were vegging. To help the autos finish I was running 15/9 and the malawis seemed to be vegging vigorously for the month or so. I then dropped it down to 14/10 for the last 3 weeks and the malawis seemed to be really close to flowering but mostly just mature as they were over 2 months from germ. Once in 12/12 (june 24) they seemed to kick into flowering super quick without as much stretch as I was expecting, almost compareable to bangi haze and the flowers formed at the rate of your average 10 week hybrid.

So my question: do you think that the 14/10 was short enough to help them start flowering and should I count it as weeks of flowering? I am trying to get a feel for when I should stop feeding as I feed with slower release organics. They are still throwing lots of pistils but one's calyxes are swelling alot and are super caked. She looks like she could only have 3 weeks left, which I suppose is possible but a 9-10 week pheno seems a bit quick for a pure sativa.

As we all know a pic is worth a 1000 words so shoot. I ll be glad to help you afterwards

Hi ValleyKush,

By the look of your pics, looks like they are in their last stage of flowering.

Plant A can be harvested in 1-2 weeks, plant B in 2 weeks and plant C 1 week more than the rest.

Probably the spraying and plagues forced the plants to mature earlier.

Valley K,

Nope can't see the color of your trichs, which is normal with these pictures but from the look of your plants I would definitly let them go longer. Like 3 weeks longer min for all three.
Your call and good luck for your crop.

Dubi, is there a fruity pheno in the feminized beans? I have one plant right now, it has stayed small and compact during flowering. It started flowering about 3 weeks before the rest, is extremely resinous, and requires very little nutrient (I know this because the other 3 all share the same reservoir and are hungry constantly but this one is dark green and over fertilized).

She smells like pineapple or mango, no traditional cannabis smell, only the fruit smell. The other thing is, she is extremely resinous. More than a hash indica even, practically dripping with resin. Have you heard of this phenotype? I am afraid of what her smoke will do to my psyche.

Well this one is very greasy, my hands don't get really sticky from it yet but they come away quite greasy, is so strange. I'm loving it though, I am going to estimate a half pound on that plant if it makes it through to 14 weeks. Another pheno is traditional large thin finger leaf and towering sticks of bud, that one will yield a pound I'm quite certain. I'll probably be revegging those two and then reverse and cross pollinate them, I can tell why Malawi genetics is so exciting to play with.

Lol.....guys I feel stupid.... Im almost positive that my jamacan x aruba boys that are out in the woods on my property seeded my malawis while they were outside... considering the trichs are ready I will probly harvest 3/4 of them before the seeds develop and just throw the leftovers outside for the seeds to finish.

Hi stevewinthrop,

Sounds like a great find :) Yes, there's a quite early flowering Malawi pheno, it's usually more compact, very aromatic and resinous, we offer offsping coming from the fruity pheno in our Malawis Breeders Packs.

If you like her smoke then is probably really worth to keep ... you can easily produce very interesting early flowering Malawi hybrids with great indoor adaptability, or just keep this expression pure in clone form for future grows.

Purple Malawi mother from clone outdoors, almost starting the flowering and continues the stretching a bit, she is delaying this season but had a great vegetative development overgrowing all the place, half side of the plant in the pic.

yo mad... nice pics... I am looking at the Malawi cob cured in vacuum bag... the buds still look fluffy ... how u do that??

with our last golden tiger, I took 1oz, and wrapped it in corn husks, then into a vacuum bag and sealed it... I sucked all the air out of the bag, and when I opened it , it was compressed as shit... imo the 3month cure in the bag def made it a better smoke, but 4get rolling a joint... have to use a pipe... the only way I see to keep the bud fluffy would be to seal the bag quickly , leaving air in the bag... please comment..thanks

hey,
well you get fluffy bud if you put them in a glass or other stable container than put in bag and vacuum seal it...
or if you take more buds and make a bigger cob than it is not so compressed... i like booth because the compressed is good for Party... small you carry not much... the fluffy are more for home use and for guest... also for a quick cure the vacuum method is top!
