Yeah, some people build little hangers to straighten up those sockets. What I have done is buy the light cord that already has the vertical mogul socket built into it. Just build a bar or something to hang it on and straighten it out. No wrong answer on how to accomplish that.

I've been using a 50/50 mix with success. I like more turface than pumice, personally. I find turface to be an excellent medium. I just don't want to screen the small particulate out so instead I add perlite to increase the air filled porosity of the combined medium. There's no right or wrong here either. It's your call on how much air you want in your media. Start with 50/50 and adjust from there if you feel the need.

Shuuure! after I've screened 7 bags full..
Is the pearlite reusable? Guess> wash, it floats, screen it off? shitcan? reuse? or use new? <that's a lot of questions...:tiphat:

EDIT: Just want to say, drilling all those holes in 5 gallon buckets and screening the holes was way more a PITA
than screening the turface.. High 9.. buddy.:tiphat:

D9 and I built this one day after buying a lot of turface. Don't need it anymore.

7 bags full?! Snook, come help me with my pile of turface. I've got another pallet to rinse this week!

But yes, I reuse both media. The perlite floats out which makes it easy. The turface you have to agitate to get the roots to float up out of it. Definitely doable and not difficult. To prep the initial perlite I just rinse the fines off and mix it up with rinsed (not screened) turface. Then into the bucket-o-blasty-growth for the duration.

Was that originally a concrete mixer before you Frankenstein-ed it av8or?

Looks like some sort of turface gattling gun now.
Please make sure it gets a nice comfy home in the PPK museum next to the tyre valves please

and the buckets with a million holes drilled in them!

it is a concrete mixer with a 55 gal drum bolted to it, slots cut in it, and aluminum screen wrapped around it.

it will clean a whole bag in about 15 minutes.

i still have it. the smithsonian has asked for it but i don't know if i trust them with such a precious artifact.

Yep! Took a 55 gallon drum, window screen and long zip ties. It has been retired, although I think from neglect.

speaking about drilling holes..

speaking about drilling holes..

McKush gave me an idea with his stacked net pots :tiphat:... next run, in a new bigger grow space, I'm going to veg the 6 plants going into that next run in 1 gal PPKs drilled, with a common rez, with bigger (??? 1 inch) holes, screened, gooped in place covering each hole on the outside of the bucket/pots, ala air pruning days... then when transplanting into 3.5s take the screen off, guess one could leave the screen in place.. an put the whole bucket into the 3.5... I veg under 4, 2', t5s, transplanting from veg area to tent always leaves them stressed and also must run for a week or two with no feed from the volume rez or they overflow... and just cant do it the same way twice.. <asshole..

i gotta say i thought my mini PPKs (no central res) would be a BIG hassle... other than filling regularly, i've only done one res change (

using jacks, i PH'd to 5.8, to watch it fall to 5.3 in a few days, had to dump after four days of starting them

since then y'all got me with the program and PH is STEADY around 6-6.2

no rubber hose or e that isn't 15 dollars a foot (for hydra systems), and no hydro fittings whatsoever, so waiting on a shipment from usa so i can add a central res. i have a coulee months to go yet, these are going to get BIG and even more thirsty - about a gallon a day each, which you kinda notice when hand topping 8 4 gallon reservoirs... still its manageable.
very !
