a ppk for a 6 plant limit

The 7 gallon black tubs fit inside the 70 quart round muck tubs. If you use the 27 gallon rectangle bottom tub then you need to use the 6.5 gallon top tub from Miller mfg. They sit indside the lip on the yellow lid of the 27 gallon bottom tub. I hope that made sense.

Haha yeah, they are $17 at coastal locally. I think I got the 7 gallon tubs for $12 at coastal. I have the luxury of having a coastal down the street so I haven't seen the online prices or availability.

Oh man, I had every problem you wouldn't want for a first time grower. After reading threads about ppk and listening to the advice of D9 and Company, I thought I'd try their theory that ppk is easy and hard to screw up. So, I did my best to copy the system and off I went. I drown a lot of my early girls, got broad mites twice, root aphids...hell, I even lost an amazing Jillybean to dropping a bank of t5's on her. But, everyone was right. Ppk just works (disclaimer: ppk will not protect against falling light fixtures, sorry). Snook remarked at one point that I was becoming a master of disaster recovery. Growing is such a dynamic environment. Semper gumbi! Honestly, I just read a lot. These threads, books, technical papers and similar publications have taught me a lot. I think working hard and not being a dick to people will pretty much get you all the help you need to be great at this. It's a lot of fun to be able to give back some knowledge now that I have actual experience working through a lot of tough growing problems.

Alright...off to enjoy the fruits of my labor! Thanks for the kind words, Playa. Enjoy the ppk!!

Anyone know of a good short cycle timer? I need a new one and the one I ordered was canceled (I'm assuming due to availability) and it seems the only ones available are about twice as much.

they are a little bit salty, but I like the sentinel drt1. digital to the second. not needed in a lot of applications, but I love the precision.

I just started using a Titan Short Cycle Timer which seems to work fine. However, no long term experience. $36 at Growers House.

I second the sentinal drt-1. I think its close to the price of the artdne and its digital. Its hard to dial in those little knobs on the artdne.
I had years of trouble free growing, then, all in the span of six months, in a brand new location no less, i got pm, root aphids and a severe spider mite infestation. I had always wanted to do a 5light 4 planr xgrow and it was such a shit show from the ra's and the mites. I was lucky that i had read obsessively abouy these things so i knew how to deal with them, but because i had been going on cruise control for so long, i got lulled into not paying close enough attention so that xgrow got pretty infested before i realised it. The x-grow was a disaster yield wise even though i overvegged fixing the ra's-they got such a good foothold bc i thought the deficiencies were because of the mites. That place was cursed, the plants were from seed and my iwn clones, so i think someone must have grown there before i got the place. Nightmare!

I must agree about the 'little' dials being kinda a PITA. I've reset it a couple times by brushing past it... and digital is very nice.
If ever in need of another I'll look into the sentinel. Tuff stuff about RAs and such.. did you move?

Luckily i had 2 rooms in that basement and one was totally pest free, and i pulled a good harvest from that room, but i did shut that spot down. It is still set up to grow, it was really the first place that i actually built out nice with all the bells and whistles, but both rooms at that place sit empty. For whatever reason the mites that seemed to come with the property seemed impossible to eradicate there. I'm reluctant to try again, having a remote grow with so many issues was not fun.

Horizontal lighting & RDWC "conversion"?

Horizontal lighting & RDWC "conversion"?

Hello All,

I have been reading up on PPK for the last week trying to gain understanding & questions answered. I have been growing in RDWC under horizontal air cooled lights. 2x 400MH in veg and 3x 1000HPS + 2x 600HPS in flower.

Two big questions remain on my mind:

1) How well will PPK play under horizontal lights compared to vertical?

2) Would it be reasonable to convert my RDWC systems to PPK?

I have two styles of RDWC. The first uses 50 gallon stock tanks for my DWC:http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/s...shJU-Yo0uWLXh0YiO1PaxNn-ZOhFuHjqZrhoCAFDw_wcB

I have a lids made from Starboard:http://www.boatoutfitters.com/cut-to-size-white-white-king-starboard that have holes for 6" net pots.

The tanks are about 12" deep. I would like to simply drop the wicks through the existing holes in the lid and rework the pump plumbing to top water.

The second style uses 5 gallon buckets linked by 1.5" PVC. Again, replace netpots with 5-7gallon feed pans & drop the wick down the hole vacated by the netpot.

Thank you All for sharing!!

delta9nxs - you are a real lifesaver.

This has COMPLETELY changed the past +18 months of misfortune I have been going through, after trying to fix something that wasn't broken, before.

My first run with this system finished a few weeks back and I got 16oz/600w with Chemdog, vegged about 10 weeks.
I had two systems staggered in time, running off the same res, and I got about the same amount, on both.
As it stands, if I am getting 12 I am not thrilled, but not terrible.
Last few times I was getting <8, and that was absurd.

I AM currently using the Ionic, but I am on the last bit of that before I switch to the Jack's, as you've described before. I wanted to use up what I had, before buying more.

I do have a couple questions though, as I sift through more instances of your PPK system variations.

1) Have you developed a formula of bucket/tub/tailpiece proportions that seem to work best?

2) I have several 5gal buckets from a previous failed RDWC attempt and I'd like to be able to use a smaller sites, so as to be able to veg shorter. Can I use these with say, a 2" tailpiece and (x) gallon top?

3) Is it possible to put several (4-8) smaller plants in the larger (70qt muck bucket) system? If so, can I do so with individual, smaller tailpieces under each site withing the top tub? It seems that this would be logical but I wondered your take on this.

4) Finally, I have to search this too but since I am asking, is there a problem with reusing the 8822? I sifted all the old roots and rinsed, but the little ones in there now don't seem to be taking off as well as the others, three weeks or so in.

I am also starting some Green Crack, but it seems to be doing much better in DWC at the moment, as I set that up too, to compensate for such a long wait on vegging in the big tubs.

Thank you again so very much, I cannot tell you how much adopting this system has helped me out.

Now back to searching for all that is PPK!!
