Hey delta can u give me the link to where ur diy humidifier is? I can't seem to find it

you mean this one? it's a 27 gal tote with nylon para cord about an inch apart except for the middle to make room for the float valve, which is set at 4" to keep the bottom of the walmart microfiber shop towels wet. the towels are held on with plastic coated paper clips and the float valve is being fed from the trash can above it. there was a fan on the chair next to it blowing across the top. you can control rh somewhat by varying fan speeds and angles.

D9, how do you start seeds for your PPKs? Just switched over to cloning directly in 8822, but now I am ready to pop some Bodhi gear and am wondering the best approach for transfer into a PPK.

against instructions i soak mine for a few hours in a cup of water just until they all sink.

then a sandwich of 2 wet paper towels on a plate, seeds, two more wet paper towels, and a piece of sara wrap type plastic for an air seal.

i put it all in a dark place close to 80f and leave it alone for 24 hours or so. most viable seeds have popped by then.

also against instructions i wait for approx 1/2" tails and plant them tail down so that the seed cap is buried about 3/8" down from the top of the medium.

back again

back again

As most of you can tell I don't post much. Not much to say. I just got caught up reading. Just started new plants because I had to shut down for a few months. I've been growing for quite a while. Read d9's post for a long time then said what do I have to loose. A little time a little money. Build plus Jacks $544. That includes 1000 watt light. Growing in a PPK has been the greatest thing ever. Same, steady, boring, close to perfect system ever. 2 years later I have not spent a single dime extra.I have enough Jacks and call nit for a very very long time. I am going to get new bulbs soon I think it's time. When my wife has to go to the hospital we go and 2 to 4 weeks later when we get home I have some timing and shaping to do. So all you dumies who come here and try to say this is a this are this is a that. This is the easiest cheapest way to grow the best smoking bud that has ever been. Until you can do better which I don't believe you can, shut the fuck up. Come here read Learn ask questions if you get confused. (That I don't understand ) simplify your life. Sorry d9 didn't mean to get on my soap box. Saw the confusion a few pages back. Some people still use rotery dial phone to.:moon: Old man had loss of control. Thanks for sharing your knowledge not just d9 but everyone who contributes here.
Damn I did it again another Fuckin post.

thank you very much for all the kind words!

but don't be laughing at my phone, dude!

you know, i really miss those old handsets.

Do you modify the water level or flood/pulse for the seedling or leave it the same as in veg/flower?

in the ppk we are watering the medium rather than the plant so i only make small adjustments based on plant reactions.

i don't recommend it because you would lose some fine tuning capability, but if you were to have to decide on an arbitrary level i would pick 4".

here are some alternate methods of building that i thought some folks might like to see.

in the first pic that is a piece of 2" pipe, a cap, a coupler, and a 2" slip to 1" fpt adapter. all connected to a 2400 gph magdrive. standard 13/16" holes with the hose just shoved in. no leaks. thanks to av8or! i've been using the technique for the connections to plastic containers but not for pipe as i couldn't get a pair of channel locks on it to help pull it through. av8or apparently has the strength of a mountain gorilla.

second just shows a good drip ring arrangement. these have 10 3/16" holes in them and seem to wet it out pretty good. the circular hose pieces are 38" long and connected with 1/2" barb t's.

the last is a group shot showing it all together. the trash bags are to keep light from starting algae.

Cloning in PPK

Cloning in PPK

I picked up some Trainwreck (Arcata) clones from a buddy and started vegging them up. After topping one of them, I poked a finger-length hole in the turface at the base of the plant and popped the stem in without any other preparation (i.e. scarring the stem or splitting it, etc.). A week later the cutting is looking awesome. This has got to be the single easiest way to clone ever. One finger poke and you're there. The room is at 78 F constantly and is getting 18 hours of 2x453 watt t5 banks. The clone stays shaded out of direct light by the vegging plant above it. RH is low right now...around 48%...but the clone seems no worse for the wear.

Either I'm onto something or I got really lucky...time to repeat this process and find out.

One thing I really noticed this time around is the shade avoidance response of the clones when they're situated close together. These clones all grew narrow and tall initially with 8 of them rooting in one 7 gallon tub. Once I transplanted them, they began bushing our with longer laterals. This drives home D9's insistence on putting cuttings directly into the final media and container as not to stall growth or crowd them next to other plants.

Ideally, then, I'm going to take a top tub full of washed turface, poke a hole in the middle and toss a fresh cutting in it, cover the hole and walk away. Hopefully, six or seven weeks after that I will simply change the light timer to 12 hours and flower in place.

Cutting straight into ppk

Cutting straight into ppk

:laughing::dance013:
These are cuttings that I did last year and just put in to see if they would grow. the two in the back were had buds and had to reveg at the same time. No root hormones just stuck them in. This is at about 14 days.
:moon:

PPK just gets it done.
I have decided to share is greater than just growing. to many don't under stand. those scruffy plants became trees.

What is the ground level diameter of your icosohedron?
Previously, you didn't know if you would ever run them.
How are things looking?

How are things looking?

the reflectix lined one you see here is about 13'6" measured from one of the apices straight across to the middle of the opposing flat side. i used 8.5' struts on it. it is about 114 sq ft.

the smaller one used 8' struts and is about 110 sq ft.

i have leased the space next door, which is much larger, and i'm turning it into a dedicated flower area so these are clone and veg chambers now.

the first one you see here is for cloning only. i'm going to clone directly into the large containers.

i can say that if i build smaller rooms again i will use a hexagon instead of a dome indoors. a hex would let you use vertical walls and standard rectilinear materials.

these domes would be great for individual large plants outdoors. a 2x2 frame and some plastic sheet for end of season cover.

the second dome is almost done. we used a white 10 mil ripstop tarp for the roof and panda film for the walls.

what i hope to do is clone in the reflectix one. they should spend 5 weeks there. and then power veg in the panda dome another 5 weeks.

then moved into one of two 10 plant flower rooms.

we are still operating under the medical rules here but are about to transition to recreational so i want to be ready to produce large plants again.
