No, not really for beds. this guy said he uses it on 600 softball diamonds in this area. So now you have a back yard softball diamond.

Just tell them: "nunya"

Nunya fuckin business!

I here u man. I find its best to be the guy they forget about the second I leave. So if they ask me and I don't have a common sense answer or Im a rude prick and say none of ur business, that leaves a sharp memory for them to think about. Little things like that can bite u in the ass.

Turface is well know for being used as a soil conditioner, supply stores are pretty persistent on asking what your using the "turface" for, from my experience. "Making my son a pitchers mound" has worked well for me!

I'll use a lighter batch next res fill up and see if that helps. No negative effects noticed in the plants yet but I'd rather be proactive than reactive.

i wouldn't, 1145 is about right in the middle of the range you want in flower.

Cool! Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Question for when I find a source of turface. Is turface basically an alternative to using mulch for landscaping purposes? So if someone happens to ask what im doing with it, can I say im redoing a flower bed?

i used to tell them that i had some areas in my yard that were compacted and would not drain freely. i read that turface makes the soil drain better and it really does. you roto till it in.

but you can't be using it in the winter so i would buy a bunch in the fall and spring.

now i tell them i'm using it as a hydro medium for growing weed! they ask me to send them customers.

Whats everybody using to connect their volume reservoirs to 1/4" lines that feed the ro float valves? I was previously just drilling a snug hole and using the amazing goop to seal it up.

Use a top hat grommet. Look up Pico's thread on a auto water system. I think he drills a 7/16" hole and slides the grommet in. It could be a 3/8" hole though.

auto tire valves. use the 5/8" hole size valves from auto parts or tire stores. in plastic you drill an undersize hole, maybe 1/2" or 7/16" depending on the plastic, and pop them in. never leaks.

7/16" hole for the top hat grommets, ive used these in the past with good result. Since, i have upgraded to the tire valves as d9 suggested, the valves create a slightly better flow compared to the top hat grommets, both will get the job done!

They actually make 1/2" barb float valves so that you can use a standard drain fitting to come off of your bulk rez.

This may be preferred, not only because it's easier and doesn't require any goop or silicone to seal, but also because with the 1/2" float there may be a bit more pressure to hopefully eliminate the possibility of the float failing.

I've had float valves get a little boogered up and not open to allow water through. Even with the 1/2" model I've seen them stick or otherwise become clogged at the float/pin mechanism.

this float valve tech needs to be upgraded to something more industrial. the little float valves like the one pictured above all use the same size seat and valve no matter what size line or fittings you use. they are pretty reliable but i would like to find something better.

if you look carefully at the base of the tailpiece there are 4 3/16" holes drilled in the top container about an inch out from the tailpiece.

i'll explain all of these plumbing changes later.

Was the purpose of these holes ever explained? I looked through the whole thread again and didn't see an explanation of these holes but there is a strong possibility that I missed the explanation.

I thought he said they were to expedite equilibrium by faster evacuation of the nutrient solution within the root zone back into the PPKs rez.. but I might have only thought that..:blowbubbles:
