2008, a time for a change, but who will it be, who do we all vote for?!?!

Ok I REALLY dont want to sound like a dumbass, considering this is my thread and all, but I have a question about primaries...

With our fucked up two party system they rely on primaries to basically narrow it down to two real canidates, the republican one and democrat. And those are the winners of the primaries...

So does this mean if Ron doesn't win the primary he will pretty much be guaranteed to not win the election?

I not american and nor do i live in america.

U ppl should start thinking of big changes in your leaderships. U have so many poor people in your country that u could fill a whole european country... If you govt had used all thoose money on educational/healthcare system you would benefit much more.

I dont undestand why so many americans want to "MAKE THE WORLD" a safer/better place. Start with ur own shitty problems at home before taking on the world..

I seriosly think that if u call that democracy or whatever it is u got there, then i also believe that michael jackson is the king of pop - sarcasme..

If u wanna get rid of terrorism, start cleaning up at home.

Peace out all my american friends, i hope u can change system..

Well... he would have to win in the primaries to be the republican candidate. He could, if he doesn't get the (R) nod, run as an independant, but that doesn't guarantee to get him on the ballot in every state and he's already said that he won't run as an independent, much to my chagrin.

So I guess, yeah, if he doesn't win the (R) primaries, then he can't be elected, without changing his mind and running as an (I).

I agree, we do need big change. Now if we can just get my fellow countrymen to agree and to push for that change.

I've been so disappointed to hear informed voters say "yeah, I agree more with {insert candidate here} but they won't win so I'm voting for..." What the hell is that? IOW, I'll throw away my principles for a chance to be able to say that I voted for the winner? Until people start voting their principles and ignore the pomp and circumstance, we won't see any changes.

Ron Paul is a perfect example. In his time in congress, he has been, in word and in deed, the statesman that everyone says they want. So now that they have a candidate who has the credentials and has proven himself to stand for the things they claim to support, and they're buying into the media spin.

Watching the debates and how the media is blatently pushing top tier candidates and burying others, I fear that a lot of people are being done a disservice with regard to being informed of their choices.

We need more people to be informed voters and we need more people to be active in the primaries before we'll ever see change.

John McCain 62 13.16%
Rudy Giuliani 31 6.58%
Mitt Romney 39 8.28%
Sam Brownback 6 1.27%
Ron Paul 283 60.08%
Jim Gilmore 2 0.42%
Tom Tancredo 9 1.91%
Tommy Thompson 12 2.55%
Mike Huckabee 22 4.67%
Duncan Hunter 5 1.06%

those are the results of a poll from the something awful forums as of now. they pretty accurately coincide with the msnbc polls. however you have to pay money to become a member of this forum and there is no way anyone can vote more than once. i think this makes it pretty clear that the online polls arent a complete fabrication by a few supercharged internet wizards in RPs camp.

Former Libertarian, has my vote!!

There is ONE thing that democrats and republicans work togeather bipartizanly for... keeping every other party out of the running completly so they only have to run against eachother.

DIGG THIS: This is a collection of Ron Paul videos in a DVD iso for distribution to disenfranchised voters who are sick and tired of the way the United States Constitution has been trampled on by politicians, but may not have any way of hearing about Congressman Paul. It is also a challenge for everyone who values liberty to start their own brushfires by creating DVD images of Ron Paul content and distributing them via P2P networks! It's not terribly difficult. I used Windows Movie Maker and Roxio MyDVD and it took about 12 hours of my time. You can use CDBurnerXP Pro to burn it.

There are far too many people who have been led to believe that they are wasting their vote if they vote for someone the media says"doesn't stand a chance". I believe that we all have been wasting our vote anyway on the people that we have elected the last 20 years. It is now time to vote for people who most closely resemble our own beliefs, whether they " stand a chance" or not.

If enough of us express our wishes rather than vote for those who stand a better chance of getting elected, we might be able to change this country. As a former republican turned libertarian, I will vote for Ron Paul and I don't care if he has a chance or not. He has my vote! I just hope he gets more press time than Harry Browne did.

Great post, if you dont vote your heart, your concious, your BRAIN.... then your throwing your vote away...

i want to rant, but alas i think i got it under my weed...lol

Hello all,

I have a question that is bothering me.

Firstly, RP is looking real good to me.

OK, so lets say he gets elected...how much of his reform is he going get accomplished since he would be calling for sweeping changes. Would he return our constitutional liberties? Can he his first week abolish the Patriot act without congressional approval?

How mcuh can he do realistically?

Bringing the troops home should be easy enough.

Our foriegn policy....I like to see some changes....like stay the hell out of other countries business.

I like his views on creating an alternate energy program on the scale of Nasa during the Apollo project. I would love to reduce our dependence on foriegn oil but more I would like to see an evironmental change.

Anyway, thats my rant and question.

PS: These are just my thoughts.

He has said he will use Bush's new Dictorial powers to undo everything that was done. If Bush can circumvent Congress to run this country into the ground the RP should be able to use it to do good for the citizens.

Hello all,

It must be me but RP seems just make good good sense.

Sadly, I do not think he has a snowballs chance in hell.....too much reform that almost seems unrealistic. I hope I am wrong.

Kucinich has little or no chance of being elected.

Ron Paul does. He is leading right now, and has made commitments towards getting the government OUT of our lives(a true republican) as well as starting the healing process for America due to the damage of the Bush Administration.
Ron Paul has spoken to Granite Staters about stopping the raids on Medical Marijuana patients. He is a good man!!

Vote Ron Paul 2008

RPs main source of popularity is the internet, and if you like him i encourage you to propagate it more. visit the ron paul forums, and vote on the polls or digg the diggs they put up. i dont have the link now, but theres a digg for freetv.com or something like that that is just a big collection of RP. digging that to the top of the stack would be great.

Gotta take it off the net too. Talk to your friends and family. If they like him, get them to vote in their states' (R) primaries. Find out if your state has an open or closed primary system so that you know whether or not any (I)s or (D)s need to change their party registration.

I got my mom all wound up and all I had to do was say that he was an Air Force flight surgeon. LOL!

exactly stoney mama! we need to be vocal about him! anytime i get in a political convo, i always bring him up. you gotta name drop!

Liberty is a good message. It's not hard to get people excited when there is a good message to share. Getting them ready and out to the polls for the primaries though, maybe not so easy. I'm optimistic though, that there are enough people who are tired of the overgrowth of our government and the inability of both parties to understand the needs of the citizenry.

You might get a kick out of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88REf0tjZHo

Some might think that it's tacky, but I think it's a good point. If we allow the government to alleviate us of the burden of being responsible for ourselves and our habits, where does it stop?
