oh hey Hawaiian - a couple other thoughts....now that I look and see you are at day 28 - I would toss the offender - hopefully you noticed before lots of pods open.

You can spray the non-hermie plants down with water to destroy any remaining pollen.

I have also heard going one step further and spraying down the plant with ice cold water will abort any seeds that have just been created.

obviously either way you should dry the plants completely after wards and clean your cabs too.

p.s. Hey pipedream you snuck in while I was posting - good point

OK...this is the deal. The aurora indica in the L front "appears" to be putting out male flowers until closer inspection. It now appears to be very large "yellow" pistils. These pistils are on the buds closest to the light, less than about 5 inches from the DIY cool tube (which isn't hot BTW). I'm starting to think that what I've got here is some light stress/bleaching. It's strange that the leaves aren't bleaching though. This plant is a real water hog BTW...growing so frickin fast compared to the others. Ironic when you consider it's supposed to be an indica. Acts more like a fast growing sativa.

I'll try and get a better (close up) pic as I'm really not sure what to think.
This started 2 days ago. Can light stress (too much) cause a plant to hermie?

Pipedream, what are some of the accepted methods to get a plant to hermie?
and...at what age (these are going into week 4 of 12/12) is best to pollinate to get finished seeds by harvest?

Just pulled these things out of the cab to get a real close look. Turns out they're getting light stressed. Tips closest to the lamp are bleached yellow. I'm running out of room fellas. lol Tied the branches together and pushed them to the periphery. Took out the reflector above the bulb as well.
Oh does it smell good in there though. That Aurora smells amazing...fruity/sweet while the bigbud just smells like cut grass at this point. The ice are as diesely as ever and starting to frost up. The stretch is done. Time to pack on the weight! This is going to be a SOLID cab of bud by the time were done here, figure at least 7 more weeks.

Hawaiian808 - As far as I know the three most commonly used are: Treating with Acid; Light Poisoning; and a Greatly Extended GrowthTime. I'm sure there are others, but my mind is a bit fogged this morning. The first one most folks fool around with is the Lighting method, however I think the Acid treatment is actually easier to deal with in a grow with limited plants & lights available.

I have seen this before even under the 150 - the tops of the buds closest to the lamp - usually in the sweet spot begin to put out bleached out bud growth - usually a fast growing plant too. I'm not sure if it is the plant reacting too light intensity beyond it's capacity or if it is something to do with the speed of growth. Either way in my experience tying back the bud will allow it to return to normal growth in a week or so. If you leave it there the bud will still grow, but much slower and the yield of that branch will suffer.

I've seen this too on another site with some White Rhino. It was really trippin'! Everything was a soft eggshell white, hairs, bud, and leaves. The grower did it intentionally to get a higher price for his finished product. Of course his set up was MUCH larger than ours here, and like suga said, it affected his yeild a bit, but not the smoke or the flavor.

i like this thread i think i am going to use a 150w hps. whats the best way to keep the heat down?? one of those plastic things connected to the laundry air hoses with a small blower/fan at the end? how noisy can a little blower get?

Unless your box is tiny, all you'll need is a single computer fan. If you have a very small box or you choose to vent thru a scrubber, yu will have additional heat build-up and may require a bit more air thru-put to keep the temps in check.

Update day 30 of 12/12...

430 HPS:

150 HPS (a week behind @ day 23):

The Aurora Indica? that I was so concerned about. Had to pull her out of the cab as she just keeps on stretching. Very sativa-ish looking don't you agree? Plan to let her finish (however long that takes) on the balcony.

Hawaiian & invision - Looking mighty fine there.

I'm sorry to report that Pipedream isn't a happy camper these days.

The girls in the cabinet just don't want to respond. While the intended Mom was doing really well, she now seems to lack vigor. Her growth has slowed down greatly, her leaves are turned down, they have a slight dryish feel to them, her color is a bit pale, and the extreme lowers are dying off. I originally thought it was a PH problem with a resulting nute lock-out, however I've carefully addressed that issue and it hasn't seemed to help. And, my little feminized sprout has problems of her own! She stays dark green and is developing a lovely little root-mass, but she refuses to grow at all.

Oh the trials and tribulations of being a parent! With all of my Jamaican seeds gone, and no "safe addy" to recieve shipments, I may have to resort to trying my hand a bag seeds. Gee, that's like taking a 25 year step back in time for me! Oh well, such is life. Thank God I had the foresight to build up a small stock-pile of meds to hold me over.

Here they are as of a couple of hours ago.....

Pipe...or maybe it's time for a vacation mon..."come to Jamaica and feel alright".lol

Experimentations fun but sometime its best to stick to the basics. You've got that cabinet so dialed in with the tiny bubbler system...get yourself some fresh sativa seeds and your back in business. Through reading your posts and looking at your pics, it's obviouse your preferance is for the sats right? I'm sure you've made enough friends through the years that would donate a few seeds your direction. Bagseed works to...just need to find a decent mother that meets your medicinal needs. Not easy these days as most erb that's available (at least out here where I'm from) tends to be predominantly Indica based (near the equator, 3 short seasons etc.)
Sorry your moms not doing well. Remember...its a weed. They don't take well to too much TLC. Gotta be hard on em' now and again, show em' who's the boss. Have you ever considered making a heavy batch of seed stock in that cab of yours? Find a good male to breed with your lady there (play some Barry White in the background) and run that cab with seed in mind especially since you've got smokeable reserves. I've seen so few posts/pics with this in mind. A seed harvest thread would be a refreshing and an educational one at that. Something right up your alley me thinks.

Invision...looking good. That cab of yours will be overgrown in no time. Whats in there BTW?

And a fantastic morning it is too. Shit, just pinch my cheek, slap me on the ass and color me happy!!!!!
In the midst of Mother's Day, my sweetheart gave the best present I've gotten in a long time.
I was telling her about my ailing plant, lack of available clones and seeds, and not being willing to buy thru the mail.

All of a sudden she says: "I think there are still some seeds from Jamaica in the suitcase"

So I say "No way. I used the suitcase when I was just last in the hospital."

"No" she says, "I mean the bigger one we used a few years back"

Me: "We didn't use that one on our last trip"

Her: "I know, we used it two years before that."

Me: "No Way!

Her: "Way, I'll look when we get home" (we were at the in-laws for Mother's Day Brunch)

So we get home, she goes rummaging thru the storage closet, and bingo!!!!!

All those years of people calling me a real "Muther" finally paid off! I got a great Mother's Day Present.

There were a total of 6 packs in there, but one had mold so I tossed it.
These are about 5 years old, but I've got "high" hopes for them. Wish me luck.
