Hey all - Looks like everyone has been busy around here. All of the grows look great. Sorry I couldn't be here for the 4-20 observance, but know my best wishes were with you.

Had a nice "mother" working before I had to leave for a few days, but it looks as though the time away was tough on her. She was left in a mixture of Perlite and a potting soil similar to MG, and now looks as though she suffering from nute burn. If I can get my wife or one of my sons to lend me a hand tomorrow, I may try to save her by relocating her into a hydro based system. I'll post a shot in an "edit" tomorrow if she gets moved.

Regards

Just me again. Please excuse the double post, but I thought I'd throw up a pic of the "Mom-To-Be". That is assuming she survives the relocation from soil to hydro. I'll keep you posted of her progress.

hope everyone had a good 4/20 i spent the day trimming up one of my sativa bagseed plants with a buddy. She was scrogged and flowered for 77 days and a total dry weight of 35 grams. I have one more girl that needs another 4 weeks and im flowering a nl x shiva male from nirvana. Im thinking of pollenating my sativa bagseed with the nl x shiva, but I'm not sure when to apply the pollen. Im guessing sometime around the 3rd to 4th week of flowering. Do seeds normally mature around the same time the buds mature or does it usually happen before that?

seeds take around 30 days to fully mature. pollinating around week 3 or 4 is a good idea.

hey pipedream,

i saw that you transfered a soil plant to hydro, i did this about 5-6 weeks ago and after about a week of shock. she has grown up and now has a fully established root system and is a towering indica with heavy buds growing all over. they usually take to the environment change so im sure you will have great results.

Hey gang. What's a good size screen for a 150 scrog grow?
Vin
{Never mind. I found all those great scrog links in the DIY link-o-rama. Sorry for the stupid ?}

Well, just under 24 hours in her new home and she's already perking up.
Although I think I may still drop the nute concentration a bit more for a while.

Yes it is. This started life off as a passive hydro-based bucket. It has an inner liner thats filled with holes and the float indicator shows the current level of stagnant nutrient solution. It was give to me years ago by a hydro dealer with the ubiquitous Basil plant in it. They marketed it to grow kitchen herbs on the windowsill. I drilled a few additional holes, added an airstone, and pump, and modded the float. Now I'm hoping she'll make a perfect home for a "Mom"

time for a little 150 watt bud porn...

here's the top view of the bucket - the darker plant is the grapefruit and the other one is the burmese which is also much bigger

side view with grapefruit in front - burmese in back

grapefruit bud

burmese bud

I'm thinking these are gettin near done so I'll probably be choping soon :canabis:

edit: I wanted to mention that I have been having some issues with this grow - I think I am being too lazy with this big bucket I can just let it go for a week - which unfortunately has caused my ph to be a bit off and the grapefruit was affected first - burmese seems to be ok - been flushing for a week now so the leaves are loosing some color - also showing ph issues. but oh well this was just a little bonus grow - I had to leave these alone for 10 days straight midway into flower and it worked ok with this big bucket holding a good 4 gallons.

I do see some disadvantages to the big bucket with multiple strains as the grapefruit was more sensitive than the burmese. anyhow I would like to try another round with 4 clones of a single strain in this one bucket

sug - Nicely Done! Did you use PBP for your hydro nutes this time? Anything else thrown in for good measure? I need to buy some new nutrients as I'm almost out. While I'v had great luck with the Technaflora BC seriec over the past years, I'm thinking I'd like to try a go at organics. Especially, if there isn't too much mixing involved. (always trying to simplify things) From what I understand, PBP can be used from sprout, right thru harvest. And, if you already have a bit of cal/mag in your water supply, you really need add nothing else. Can you confirm any of this and steer an old friend in the right direction? One more question if you know... Since they are organic nutrients, I understand that a TDS/EC meter will not give accurate readings as there are no salts so to speak of. How do you determine and control the strength of the bath?

(edit: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to sugabear_II again.)

Here's A Shout Out To: WAZEN (you know who you are)

pipedream - I use General Hydro Floranova - it is a one part organic based flower nutrient and I highly recommend it. I use it for veg as well as flower. I do find that it has a bit too much N for late flower so I start replacing some of the floranova with gh flora bloom from the three part series - which is chemical but cheap and nicely ph buffered and has no N. I have not found any issue with measuring the ppm - seems pretty normal to me as compared to other ferts I have used. It is very concentrated and comes out of the bottle like sludge. I recommend mixxing it in a cup with some warm water and then adding to the res - 5ml will bring 1 gallon up 450ppm in my experience.

as for additives I do use general hydro diamond nectar fulvic acid as well as general hydro's floraliscous additive. I find the fulvic increases terpine production and tends to make the plant smell stronger - I'm not sure if the floraliscous is really doing anything - supposed to enhance flavor and what not by adding organic kelp and other stuff - but I think one can certainly live w/o as it is expensive.

Finally I do use hyrgrozyme which helps keep the roots healthy. Not sure if you have tried it or not but it has helped to keep root rot at bay for me. I've had plants with slimy rot spots come back and grow new roots using this stuff. Again it's kinda pricey so if you don't have issues with root rot then don't worry about it.

I don't keep a scale so I will not be able to provide a dry weight for you - thanks for the kind words though! I got your pm and I have to admit to not having my own grow thread setup - I think I'll have to do one and I'll send you a link when it's posted.

Here she is three days later. Day 4 after soil-to-hydro changeover.
Responding nicely to it's new home, lower nutrient level, and new fluoro lighting.
Bottom fans are nute-burned beyond help and will be removed this evening.

Will also throw caution to the wind and germinate all of my remaining "Sata Nash" seeds at the same time.
I have about 2 dozen left that are quite a few years old, and will hope for 6 to 10 good sprouts to work with.

pipedream : nice recovery; knew ya would do it.

vintner : there are lots of variables that will determine what sort of fan you need ... ambient temps, cabinet size, intake size ... plug that 150 in, close the door, and see what kind of temps you get . i use a bathroom fan that i got at a yard sale for $1.00. it works perfectly for me as it moves a goodly amount of air and i dont really need the quiet of a more powerful fan. you may need something more, or may need even less.

Thanks for the reply green grow. Right now I'm using a bathroom exhaust fan too which seems to be working ok. We'll see how well it does once the weather warms up. My family and I plan to move in a year or so, and I will have the oppertunity to build my cab from scratch and grow in doors year round. I'm thinking I'll build myself a work bench in my new place (bacement hopefully) and put a put a micro cab underneath it. I was hoping to get everything I'll need as far as equipment ready before hand. Guess I'll have to wait to see what my new circumstances dictate. Thanks again,
Vin

oh pipedream - I wanted to add I have used foxfarm, pureblend pro, and advanced nutrients - and the best for both plant health and value is the general hydro floranova IMO.

couple of changes to the cab

couple of changes to the cab

Screwed a piece of flashing to the ceiling, and added a cfl because I'm overgrowing this cabinet. I had 2 Mississippi Muds (thanks JLP) in there but one turned out to be a male,so out he went and I put in one of my skunk mothers, who was way too big. I had to really bend and twist her into position but all seems ok. I was afraid she was crowding out the Mud so I put a CFL over her to keep everyone happy. I put the male back in the veg closet with an eye towards an outdoor seed run but after a week under 18 hour lighth he blew his load. I saved some pollen and tossed him.
I also got a friend of mine in the 150 club,he's got kids so we went stealth and put a complete security light in an old refrig in his basement. I set him up with a couple of vegged plants and he's now about 3 weeks from harvest and looking good.
