Well last grow had no odor control because I was so burned out on wasting cash over relentless ideas. Im sure you all go through the same...
But this time more cash was invested into building a custom:
Pananonic whisper fan Carbon Scrubber.

The 80CFM fan is constructed perfectly to be mounted to a flat surface, with pre-drilled holes and a flat construction. I made a little wooden frame and attached it to the Fan. Then I used some "L" brackets to suspend a chicken wire frame about an inch above the actual fan intake. This is to increase the surface area, thus efficiency and reducing noise.
Next I went to Home De Pot and got some carbon filter replacements. This made a good sheet to cover the chicken wire with! I cut it perfectly so not a single carbon grain can fall into my precious Panasonic fan and kill her ($110).
Then to a fish store, where a friend hooked me up with 5Lbs of activated carbon for $10!
With about 2-1/4 inches of activated carbon pellets, I hope the smell will go away this time!!!!

Day one and the trans plant is going alright.

Plant Pheno #2, the fat ass stativa is alone in her pot, dominating her half!

Plant Pheno #1 looks like its mother so far. Compact and pretty, I love her.

Plant Pheno #3 Is the DUCKFOOT MUTANT FROM MOLOKAI!! I have no Idea
why this pheno is taking precident here, but it is 1/3 of her heritage!
And its the weirdest looking Ganja plant I EVER seen.

Well this brings us up to date with the grow. I hope to participate more often, but right now life is driving me fucking crazy!
My plants are my sanity, I just hope they are girls!

Suga, I have to build another 150hps and another veg box, and a stealth dryer! So much work to do! I would like to use one of the Mills Pride cabs for a 150....
You perform well with, what was it, 29" of height from floor to cealing?

Also, what do you guys think about cloning? This strain showed sex on day 14-16, and today is day 8. But the branches are streching like never before! I was considering the Perlite cloning system with the Wiki Torch wick, or buying some Rootech and using my Seedling mixture of perlite/verm/worm castings...
Seems the perlite method is cheaper and works better though.
Also, nodes 5 on up are not ready for the cutting today, so hopefully by this weedend, they will be candidates, growing on top and fast!

This is my first cloning procedure, and im a little intimidated. Plus this college thing is a PITA so time is limited. Im tryin. Any suggestions, comments on cloning??

Aloha everyone...

Bule, (Waz) you've been a busy man! Tons of great pic's and good info. The more I sit here and read what you guys are up to, the more I need to get back in the saddle, so to speak.

I think that I'm going to check out that Panasonic as soon as I'm able. Are my eye's deceiving me or is that a squirril cage type fan? If it is, I'm surprised it has enough oomph to evacuate the space through a scrubber. That type of fan while known for their quiet operation, usually lack in power.

I'm planning to remove the fan from the rear of my cabinet and seal up the hole. I'll install a new setup right in the top above the reflector. This way, I'll be venting the hottest air and be able to stand the cabinet right up against the wall. I'll likely take a suitcase with most of both sides removed and lay it on the top to hide the exhaust vent and scrubber. My cabinet is so tall that nobody will really be able to see the whole in the upper side. As an alternative, the scrubber may actually go on the inside mounted to the ceiling, in which case I'd nix the suitcase and keep the top flush.

If I go the second route, I may use these great AC/Heating grills I saw on sale for less than 10 bucks. They have a small motor built into them and a remote control that allows youto open and close them. I could hook them up to the light timer so that they closed when the light went off. This would stop lightleaks during the dark period and also allow the CO2 to build up a bit.

Thoughts anyone? See problems or have some suggestions?

username - i noticed i had mites lastnight...i use 50% isopropyl alcohol, water, and a few drops of dishwashing detergent to get rid of my mites. im not to sure if its bad for the plant or not but it did work... also after the alcohol spray i drenched the leaves and bud about 3 times with distilled water to get rid of anything that may have stuck to the plant. hope this helps

hmmm i'll have to try that, hopefully not anytime soon :D

i'm treating my beanlings with neem, and they seem to be doing great. i'll make sure to pay more attention to detail this time.......first crop affected by mites = last crop affected by mites.

this bud is still awesome though, right on time too!

bule, nice pics man those are some fat leaves.....they look really healthy in there :D

pipe can't wait to see ya back in action man! your cab is a work of art :joint: definitely more stealth to have the scrubber inside the cab if you've got the space in there. can you drop your light down at all? or raise up the buckets? too much of a PITA?

Whats happenin PipeDreamBeliever?

Looks like you have a little extra space on the very top, like a hidden valley behind wooden trim. Reguardless, think about this...

Why not use the Panasonic whisper fan idea, mounted on the very top.
Facing the fan down where the carbon scrubber is mounted.
Like the picture of my carbon scrubber, but upsidedown, with the carbon facing INTO the cabinet cealing, and the whsiperfan mounted on the roof, outside the cabinet.
This way, the carbon filter and fan stays outside the box, on the top. It will vent toward the back.
Then you can cover the entire fan/scrbber with a LARGE framed picture of something nice, facing foward.. and perhaps some decorative vases or decanters along the side of the fan to stealth it!
It only needs 4" of space between the exhaust and the wall before it starts to "Push harder".
And yes, it is like a large squirel cage fan! But more advanced and even better!!
When something is restricting the fan's airflow, you can hear an increase in noise as you feel an increase in power!! The fan seems to be programed to maintain CFM and it will "blow harder" when its vent's are restricted! Its not like there is a computer in there or something, Panasonic just got the shit down I guess!
Brand new, the sqirel cage or "Guts" are sealed within the black metal fan casing that lightproofs it.
When new,the exhaust is a 4" hole metal adapter, but the intake is more like an 7-8" hole!
The guts reveal a rectangular vent, larger than a 4"hole.
Unlike many fans, for some strange reason, this fan is able to move an unbelieveale amount of air with the slightest sound!!!
When I first bought the 70cfm fan, the casing was more simple than the newer 80cfm fans. It was so quiet, I didnt even know it was on! Yet I could feel the rush of air from like ten feet away! It truley blew my mind, and the law of physics!

Panasonic seemed to stop making the 50 and 70cfm whisper fans.
Also, the same 0.3 sone Panasonic whisper fan that is now 80cfm, is construted a little more hefty and more "sealed up"..

After adding the carbon scrubber, I can say its working okay for now. The 80CFM has been reduced to around 40CFM, but it made up for making a remote ballast! No temp change from a bare 70cfm fan used last grow (Now bare in veg box). Temps stay 5-6 degrees above ambient. (But I cheat with an AC aswell!)

I can smell the plants upon opening the cabinet, just 9 days into flower, and they already stink even though they show no sex! The carbon scrubber is doing its job- AT THIS STAGE.
We shall see What happens when 1/4 pound of dank ganja fills up the cabinet.
I can only hope it works......

User Name, thanks bro! Aloha! Hope them lil critters die and burn in hell, stupid mites!
I have yet to contract them, but I am dealing with them in college plantation!!

Day nine flower, meet the grandchildren.

Day nine flower, meet the grandchildren.

The Grandchildren of many unusual plants.

Decades ago an old cutting from a university professer calling it G13, crossed with a pure Molokai Stativa, and finnaly Ducksfoot. These phenos belong to the Cdub family, an experimental Hawaiian offspring cultivated by a gorilla grower. Two phenos gave seven seeds total from 8 ounces of ganja, these are the results, the grandchildren of a wierd mixture.

Shes the 133 day flowering pheno's seedling...
Bigger than the rest, and thier parents, she lives alone in a single pot, much bigger and stronger than the others...
Her name is Fat Ass.

Day nine flower, two plants in a pot.

Day nine flower, two plants in a pot.

From the plant harvested at day 83, her two seedlings have grown nicely.
Moma was a pure sexy female that gifted only four lucky seeds!...

One is a frankenstien named THE DUCKFOOT MOLOKAI MONSTER!

The other, a beautiful plant I could have sex with, just like her mother...Her name is Love because I just love the plant so much.

Today the electricity went out for hours, and my babies lost 3 hours of light! My plants slept for 15 hours today, and were interupted with day light when I had to unplug the timer... They sat alone without air exchange at 81F for 6 hours....

There are a few minor light leaks, and I am praying to the gods that they dont hermie or grow bananas.

The time is soon, they will be sexed and cloned.
The Pure perlite wick system seems like the best, any thoughts?
Planning of taking nodes 5 and 6 during the next week... Input is appreciated.

Check out Post #298 on Page #20 of this thread. You'll find a great "DIY How-To" posted by Sug.
If you get into trouble, or your light looks very different, just let me know and I'll walk you through it here or by PM or IM.

As far as the reflector goes, there are a million variations. Once you know your growing footprint and available height you'll be in a better position to choose the right one for you. When you first start off, you may want to try to utilize the one that was originally built into your light and see how it covers the area.

At the hardware store, there should be many sizes of aluminum sheets for sale, and they will cut them catering to your tastes.

Most cabinets have a length GREATER than the depth,
so when mounting the light make sure the bulb is located from front to back, rather than side to side becase the sides of the bulb have greater output of light compared to the back and front of the blb....(My reflector is and light is actually opposite, and not as efficient as mentioned above...because im a lazy smoker)

On the same note, make sure the refelctor is designed so that any fan can blow DIRECTLY at the bulb. This means your reflector shouldent have too much of an overlap or steep angle at the sides.. kinda like PipeDream's reflector, though a little larger if its better for YOUR set up.
Why not try a Batwing reflector, where the bulb and reflector's edges are on the same longitude.
The fan's airflow should cool the bulb, and create a breeze between the bulb and your Kola's tips of dank ganja. Make sure the fan is placed so it's Shadow dosent kill light efficiency...

Good luck TK.
