What did you deside Bro? You mind telling us more about your set up or posting a link to it?

Just curious i built a computer case shade and bought a 150 wt hps, but just don't know how high it should be from the plants?? Just don't want to run it with not knowing the right height for it. Thanks for replys
Yea,I'm kinda struggling with that myself. For a year now,I've kept mine 6-8 inches away, but now I have one plant exhibiting heat stress. Also,Motaco has me thinking that heat may be the cause of most of my bagseed plants producing less than the average amount of trichomes. So I've changed mine to 10" above and I'll see what happens.I keep a thermometer close to the tops and try to maintain temps of no more than 82 degrees in summer and 78 in winter.
Basically you just need to put your hand a few inches under the light and leave it there a couple of minutes. If it gets uncomfortably hot,it's too close.

Oh happy daze.......
Hey Man!!Yea,these guys are good.Because of these guys I harvested the largest bud I ever grew, indoors or out, under my little 150hps.April was a good month.Back then,I just sat back and read their post, lurked. Now,I can't seem to shut-up,LOL.

Hey bud.Howzithangin?I swear,I don't know if I've ever posted a pic of my raggedy 'ol grow.I'll post some pics later this evening if these guys don't mind.I got a re-veg that I'm kinda proud of since it's my first succesful. Also a couple of long flowering sats or sat dom hybrids, not sure.
No decision yet as there are about 1000 pages to go back through.I wanna choose wisely as this will be my first time using store-bought seed.I want something that should yeild nicely under a 150 but not take much more than 60 days from 12/12 to finish. My sativa bagseed generally takes 80-100,sometimes longer, from 12/12.I have a couple of seedlings from my first INTENTIONAL cross that I'm looking forward to growing out.The female it came from fininshed in 44 days and was some real Wayne Williams shit.
Peace
(Edit)I need to hurry, though.Nirvana just raised his prices from 15 bucks a pack to 25.So now I'm down from 3 choices to 2. :badday:

150w electronic ballasts

150w electronic ballasts

Hey 150w crew,

I've been doing some research on lighting and came across a 150w electronic ballast by coralvue, an aquarium supply company. They can be found for a little less than a hundred bucks here:

http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=384

I haven't bought from them, they're just the lowest price I could find on google product search. They also happen to have 4.5/5 stars from 21 customer ratings according to google.
Coralvue claims their ballasts handle both MH and HPS bulbs, is this a trait common to all electronic ballasts? Are there any benefits to using an electronic ballast? Has anyone else used a 150w eballast?

Thanks in advance. :joint:

check out seedbay - they used to run a 4 seed pack nirvana deal for 40-45 as a weekend special. I picked up a 6 pack for 60 a while back.

femaleseeds also has many great deals on some good strains - I think grapefruit x nl (x-line) is an excellent deal at 5 for 25 at seedbo - I really liked their grapefruit and the nl is supposed to be good - the combo would make an excellent strain for the cabinet 150 grower - and female seeds are nice as one seed = one girl. I've grown nl x c99 and it was very nice but too racey for my taste - the grapefruit is 75% c99 and was very similar but less racey - I imagine the gf x nl would be very nice.

hi, uglybunny ...

in that link they state that the ballast handles both 175w and 150w metal halide bulbs, but nothing about it handling 150hps bulbs. did i miss something ?

Thanks alot sugabear, those are strains I haven't added to my list.I was too embarrassed to add that something else I'm needing from a strain is something to help with my depression/anxiety that will also grow well under a 150.My bagseed varieties are mostly sativas or sat dominate and trigger a terrible paranoia.I haven't had a good couch lock in a couple of years. And none of the poisons that my doc has prescribed have worked.I'm still digging around the med threads on this site,as well as others. Thanks again

Hmm... well I do like the grapefruit for depression and it doesn't cause a great deal of anxiety like the c99 dominant nl x c99 I grew... here's some grapefruit shots

However I personally feel that burmese is the most outstanding anti-anxiety uplifting strain I have grown. Everyone I know who I've smoked some with or given samples to has loved the burmese - but some have not found it to be as potent as other sativa doms like trainwreck - and I've even read posts by other folks who have grown the burmese saying they didn't feel it was really a sativa as it lacked the crazy racey speedy high of other sativas they had grown..... anyways I guess my point is that some people haven't liked it as much as I do - but I have some anxiety issues and I find that the burmese is absolutely perfect fit for my brain chemistry and produces the exact effets I want.

I grew the reeferman version (VISC also sells one which is pretty much the same) and it is no longer available through seedbo - and if you get it from reef it's outside the price range ($75) you are looking in - I wish I could give you some of the f2's I made but they're all gone. Fighting budha (burmese x blueberry) is by chimera and availble from seedbo/seedbay but at $65 a pack it's probably too much $$ for you.

some burmese shots...

Hey yeah I forgot to provide the link to the ballast's instruction manual. here it is(PDF warning): http://www.coralvue.com/ballast-manual.pdf

On the second page it says, "The electronic ballast is an important energy-saving unit used for metal halide lamps or high pressure sodium lamps."

Thats a brief description of "Ballast" in general. It clearly states in the product description it is a MH ballast. Nice find though, at that price its still a good deal if you want a nice veg light.

so i got a nice setup waiting for me to start up but i'm stumped on what to do for a fan. i've got the elf carbon scrubber 4" x 10" but i need a fan before i get started. i've asked around on many sites for a quiet inline fan or squirrel cage blower.

does anyone have any experience comparing the noise levels of squirrel cage blowers vs. inline fans? my main goal is for it to be quiet.

i've been lookin at the sunleaves windtunnel inline fan, it's supposed to be quiet. anyone use it before??

please recommend me a quiet fan!! haha, i wanna get this started!!

thx for the help guys, i can't wait to show my set up!

Hey Bro: Don't be embarrassed! This site is here because people need help. I don't suffer from anxiety or depression, but I grew some of Mandalas Sadhu this past spring. It's supposed to be good for anxiety. It did very well LST'd under a 150. Hope that helps.

Vin
Dank: Looking good! Those are some really long hairs.

whats the maximum amount of space in which you can use a 150w hps? Im in the middle of my first rubbermaid grow and i want to change things up. Whats the max # of plants that a 150 w can cover?

I have a rather large closet in a spare room and i wanted to build something and throw it in there as a 150w flower cab while still keeping my rubbermaid tub as a veg/mother box. I'll get some measurements later and post them up as to what i have to work with.

i dont really want to use a bigger light, maybe a 250w HPS if needed, but i only need to grow 2-6 plants for personal use/hobby growing so any suggestions on a nice small setup are welcome.

bob91 ... looks like you have a nice crop on your hands . enjoy !

reefer ... my cab. has 3.5 sq. ft. of floor space which, IMHO, is a touch big for a 150. i supplement it with 2 x 23w cfls. i might shrink the cab. one day, or just get/make another (slightly smaller) one, because i want to eliminate the cfls and have a nice, clean, 1 light system. you want around 50w/sq.ft. or more if possible, so a 150w hps will nicely light up an area of around 3 sq. ft.
in a cabinet like that you could grow 1 large bush, 2 smaller ones, or several plants in a SOG or SCROG set-up.
regardless of which growing style you choose, a 150hps should produce more than enough ganja for the average enthusiast. i still consider myself a stumbling, bumbling rookie at this and my little grow is producing more ganja than i can consume. a problem all of us love to have , i'm sure.
happy growing, it's a fine hobby.

That's ok,my man. It's the thought that counts.I'll get tuned in eventually, thanks to your recomendations.I'll be changing to a much higher paying job in a month or so and will be able to afford the better genetics. The burmese looks wonderful.Oddly enough,I'm a big fan of foxtails.I see foxtails occasionally in mexican brick and it is always excellent herb.I have 2 seedlings now of some that I pulled from a foxy bud. Thanks again.
Peace
