150w HPS Club and Resource Guide......

Very nice, I think I may just do that - it actually wouldn't cost me any more than I was about to spend (Canada = no e-conolights). I actually have a couple of ceramic medium sockets lying around that I could just splice onto the end, so that is indeed what I'll go with.. buy a bulb.. violla. Oh, whats the reason for this preference, out of curiousity?

medium base = medium size bulb, smaller, and easier to find, that's all. If you get the mogul you will actually get a bigger bulb w/ a few more lumens, but when I go out shopping for a bulb I usually don't see 150 mogul based bulbs.

Quick update...well I did it again and changed everything around more or less. If anyones interrested I ended up pulling the 430 HPS out of the top of this cab and building a new one with more heigth as the small 19" x 23" space lent itself to too many heat/vent issues...live and learn.
So what I did was pick up a 100HPS to place in the top cab as a veg/mother cab. I still intend to use that 55 watt funky fluro as it works really well for sprouting but the 100 just serves as a nice transition to the 150 and then possibly onto the 430. This is that 100 watt HPS in action. I have 5 Crystal and 4 White Widow at 2.5 weeks in veg at this point.

A full cab shot. 100 HPS on top, 150 HPS on the bottom.

150 in action: Thats 4 ICE in 2 gal pots BTW.

I pulled these out of the 430 for show and tell...
The first here is a Big Bud

OK now on to the mystery plant. This one came out of a pack of seeds labeled as Aurora Indica from a Netherlands seed company. I have racked my brain going through post after post trying to indetify its characteristics. I sifted through every page of the "revival of the ultimate sativa " thread intially started on OG and the closest resembling photos I've seen yet are from Nexxus of a sativa that he says is Zamal. Any sativa enthusiasts out there? Anyone want to take a guess? This plant smells amazing, very fruity almost perfumy. I swear it smells like roses. It's very airy like a typical sativa but with an abundance of foxtails and the hairs never seem to go brown. I'm going to try and reveg her in hopes of getting a few clones...my plan is to introduce her to the hawaiian outdoors and see how she fares, fingers crossed. I guess some pics would help. she's in a 5 gallon pot BTW.

Trying to save the genetics on this ICE. Hoping the reveg on her is successuful

nice pics, hawaiian . the re-veg should be just fine, i think .

thought i would check in with a shot of my veg. cab . i found this cab. in a back alley; looks like a laundry-room sort of cabinet . 34"wide x 30" high x 12" deep. 3 x 26w cfl. passive intake AND passive exhaust seem to work just fine so far, probably because it's in a fairly cool basement.

sorry about the poor quality of the pic ... on the left are 4 rooted cuttings (in front) behind those are some cuttings that havent rooted yet, 2 are just in water in tin cans and 2 are in soil in plastic cups with clear plastic cups as domes.

next is, obviously, the mom (sugarwarp from reeferman) and to the far right is a little domed plastic cloning thingy that i bought at Rona for 3 or 4 bucks. with that i am having the most cloning success (i'm still very new at it). hop a few of these clones start showing some real vigor, as mom is scheduled for the flower room in about 3 or 4 weeks .

I finished my very first grow ever just last week! I have to give a shout-out to everyone who ever inspired me or made me think it was possible to cut the drug dealers out of my habit! Fuck drug dealers! Thank you soooo much you guys! I am now the proud owner of a humble and very free stash, with the experience and know-how to make more. I am very excited.

Pipedream Thank you! Your's was the original grow I saw on OG so long ago that made me think "I can do THAT with a 150W light?!?!?!" I have always been impressed with your buckets, but after doing my own thing for a while, hydro no longer excites me. Still! Thank you for sharing pictures of your wonderful cabinet, kind Sir!

Sugarbear and Hawaiian, too! Always fun to look at!

I estimate this first harvest to be around 2.5oz from two plants, one adult and one clone. I got about 2oz off the big one, and 0.5oz from her replica. I wasn't even trying to maximize my space. This next time I will be attempting to maximize my 3.5 square feet and 42" vertical height, under 300 watts HPS the entire time and not only for the last two or three weeks of flower. After checking my roots, I realized my pots can hold MUCH bigger plants than what I had in them for this first cycle. So many lessons learned over the past 4 months!

Now that the first cycle is complete, I went ahead and cleaned my box and got everything ready for the second cycle. I mixed up some new soil based on information gleaned from the first cycle. For the last grow, I used FFOF and coco mixed half and half. This time I mixed FFOF and coco 70/30 w/ 1.5tbs Mexican Bat Guano for every 2.5ga of substrate. My hope is I will be able to veg for a while without feeding any nute solution. I do have some guano tea going just in case extra nitrogen is needed. I love bat guano! It works great for nitrogen deficiencies.

As for the plants.. I have 3x untested but known to be female Mexican sativa clones, and 3x Mandala Speed Queen moms vegging in the cab currently. The Mex. sat. replicas will veg until I can take cuttings from the SQs. Once cuttings have been taken and rooted, flowering will commence around July 1. Then hoping to harvest the SQs by Sept 1, Sats by Oct. 1. Wish me luck!

Hawaiian: THAT is a thing of beauty!!! Very well done. Your reveg looks like it's doing great too. You gonna try to save this unknown? Let us know how she smokes.

The pictures in this thread are rather inspiring.

I Just ordered my 150 digital ballast, should have 'er in 5 days or so! Was also just gifted some "Sour G (G13 x Sour Bubble)" due to a couple of packs of dud Lowryder seeds (my facination with those little plants is officially over). Has anyone ever grown this - I don't even know who the breeder is (aside from BOG for one of the parents). They're in the mail, so maybe I'll find out when i get them.

Where might one find a suitable cool tube? I haven't been able to find any of those lamp covers.

green_grow - looking good in the new cabinet !

fivesevenzero - so glad you found your way to the endless stash :D

vintner

Lemon - hey budy the Sour G sounds pretty good to me - bogs gear was always good from most reports - I'm hoping that digital 150 turns out nicely for you. As for cool tubes - you can usually diy one by picking up a huricane lantern replacement globe at a craft store and working it from there - check out the DIY link o rama in my signature there's probably a tutorial on how to do one. if not I made one at one point and still have it and can take pictures for you.

rasta - nice friggin' work :bongsmi:

edit: here's a picture from my last grow under the 150 - fms grapefruit 65 days macro - sorry it is not all in focus

and a little of what I am smokin' tonight
a nug off this bluethunder bud jar curing since january

rolled in a little of this ICE dry sift hash made with a screen from the craft store

Hawaiian808 - sorry didn't mean to forget to say high to you too - good work as always!

Aloha my 150 breathren.
I love checkin in and seeing almost a page of new threads.
Nice looking plants rasta. One of those pics looks like one of my WW that's being real tempermental right now. TBH...I've never worked with a more fickle plant! I may chop her and be done with it! She's mostly clear...should be a nice "paddle out on the longboard and just appreciate mother nature" high.
The 150 "Ice" got the chop and damn does the apt smell!

The keikis (children in Hawaiian) got topped about a week ago and are getting real bushy. Plan is to take the more Indica phenos, LST them and flower them in the 150. The more sat dominant ones will find refuge in the 430 as I'm planning to just let them do what they will. So far out of the 10 keikis (5 Crystal and 5 WW), 1 very sativaish male got the chop. I look to have another more stout "muscle bound" Crystal male developing so the plan is to seperate him and selectively pollinate a few of the ladies lower branches.
That is...I hope to get a few decent female phenos out of this last run. The plan is to have some nice genetics as in Moms to clone from come next winter. I've got an unbelievably nice "Ice" mother who seems to have survived the reveg process...I'm very happy about this BTW.
As for that strange wild pheno sativa, I may keep her as a mom if the reveg works solely for outdoor purposes as she seems to be a 16-20 wk strain.

I'll get some new pics up later today as I have the day to myself (no baby sitting) and the oceans calling.

Lemon, a bake-around will do just fine in fact probably better as the glass is completely straight. Doing the DIY cool tube is a snap. Your gonna be happy you didn't spend the $100 for a store bought one. Please let us know how your new 150 digi runs after it arrives. I'm thiking of getting one myself and putting an end to the heat and hummmm issue.

570...feels good don't it! Just follow the cardinal rule "tell no one you grow" and you'll be pulling/storing your own for years to come.

Bounty, enjoy reading your "outdoor" knowledge. Wish you were here to evaluate a few plots i have picked out for this wild sativa pheno I've got right now.

Vinter, mahalo for the nice words. I'm dying to give this sat a test smoke. Once I do you'll definately get a report.

Lastly...Suga. I know you didn't forget about me.lol Out of curriosity, by the looks of your macro your going for mostly clear/cloudy? What's your preference and are you of the belief that amber is couch lock or simply degraded "over done" tri's? Also...care to show us how you built your kiff screen?

thanks suga and hawaiian, one of the strains is white skunk. is there a relation between that and the widow?

Hawaiian808 - I actually gave up on the trich scope a while back and usually pull my plants based upon pistal color and ripe ness of the calyx. Basically I look for a point where the majority of the pistals have turned orange naturally and the calyxs are just starting to shrink a little after their swelling. I find this to be done for me. I also experiment with the strain if I get the chance to run it a few times. I don't know what it was about the scope - I would get frustrated because one part of the plant would be show amber and shriveled heads and other parts would show clear - I guess I found myself wanting to go by the big picture of the plant as a whole - kinda just watching and seeing and as soon as I think it's starting to fade in health and the buds are no longer really growing that is when I take her...

and on the silk screen - I use a pre framed one that I bought at a Michael's craft store - it was like $20 and says speedball on it - I take it and set it over a large glass pyrex dish and trim my buds on top. Then I take the trim leaf and use a card to push it back and forth to get the dry sift. I don't go over board though as I also have bubble bags - so the trim goes into the freezer for later bubble bag extraction. The dry sift is kinda like a first take if you will - a little off the top - I find dry sift has the most flavor as compared to bubble hash.

Ahhhhh, the hash-master has spoken!

Listen and learn children, he has some of the nicest product I've seen.

And the quantity he gets from a harvest is very impressive.

If I ever get my new grow going, I'm planning on trying each of his techniques this time around.

Well I got my new cabinet almost entirely put together, all that is left is for me to drill a couple more holes for power cords to go through the top of the cabinet, and I have to build the carbon filter. I might build an air cooled hood also, but I need to see what temps are like with a 150 on first. Right now I've got 40 cuttings under 30w of light.

I'll also be installing an adjustable metal shelf that can go from floor level, up to within 12" of the HPS lamp, so that I can keep the tops of the plants within inches of the light at all times of growth. The shelf is a metal grid like design, so that air can pass through from the bottom, up past the plants, and out the top of the cabinet.

This is my first try with clones, so I'm trying to root 40 in hopes of getting at least 10 rooted cuttings. My girl is going to pick and take care of a couple, I'm really pumped that she wants to get involved. Maybe she won't get bothered that I spend so much time with the plants now. :bat:

Anyways, here's the specs and then a couple pictures of my setup.

150w HPS for flowering, up to 60w floros for rooting and short veg periods.
174cfm 4" Vortex, with speed controller
8"x8" Darkroom Louver for lightproof passive intake.
